asphyxian_doll
So...I've decided to no longer go to City Club, Necto...or any other club for that matter. The cigarette smoke really messes with me, and I'm not happy with how the scene and people around me effect me. I have met a lot of great people there, but I'd much rather prefer seeing them, and visiting with them in a more serene, and less toxic environment. :| I hope to get to see most of you in another setting. I will miss those of you I have been able to spend time with, while I was attending the DGN events(even if I hadn't very often, when I did, it was nice) Edited May 2, 2009 by Rayne

the eternal
Sorry to hear that. I like seeing people in quieter, more subdued settings too, but I'll keep going to City as well. It's fun in ad ifferent way than DGN functions.

Onyx
The smoke gets to me too. I'm all for planning some informal get-togethers this summer. Wish I lived closer, but with enough advance notice I'd love to see you folks. I wanna have some potlucks or picnics.

My days at CC were dark and hazy and I barely remember them but I do remember the cool people I met (Harold being namely one of them) there and am glad I did meet these awesome people. Im not saying I will never go back to CC ever again. But definitely no time soon.
TygerLili
That's one thing I liked about the clubs in California. No smoking inside, and, if you can deal with the smoke, usually a cool little patio area outside for the smokers, or for the non-smokers like myself who wanted to go outside and cool off. Anyway, I understand how you feel, and I've been know to take a long hiatus or two from the the club scene myself, but I always end up missing it after a few months. It's the easiest place to catch a lot of people. The private parties and get-togethers I've been to have been kind of hit or miss. It really depends on who shows up. At least with the club, if I don't know many people I can still dance.
asphyxian_doll
I'll miss you too Prick. ^_^ I'm trying to really turn over a new leaf, internally. The club isn't making that easy.
Enishi
I don't feel particularly comfortable at clubs/bars myself. I've always had trouble finding my place in large groups to begin with, and while I can tolerate cigarette smoke, the noise does get to me. Its hard to find another way of meeting lots of people in one area on a weekly basis though.
candyman
Meh...I would gladly take a relative risk of 1.25 in a confidence level of 95% to hang out with my friends and have fun...but then again I don't freak out until the relative risk reaches past levels of 4 or 5 in a confidence level of 95%...no more parties at the mustard gas plant I guess... anametamystik
There comes a point where the marginal benefits are outweighed by the marginal costs, when the companionship is outweighed by the drama. I've taken breaks from City, but never say never. Mustard gas plant parties? That's a cool idea. Detroit has more than enough cool abandoned factories and what not. Brenda Starrr
I don't blame you. I don't like smoke, either. I'm asthmatic, and it's not healthy for my lifestyle to be around it at all. Besides, most people don't give a shit whether or not we don't want smoke in our midst. I can only hope for the ban. When it happened in MD, everyone shit themselves over it. Now, the bars are busier than EVER.

Most smokers will move away if it really bothers you that much...but something needs to be said nicely otherwise it all goes to hell. I guess I have lived too long in an area that has both smoking and non-smoking places next to each other. What a backwards town. I should start a thread on all the places I can't go to because my allergies are triggered and I get nasty headaches...maybe I could get perfume and cologne banned from classrooms and public places that aren't really public but are instead privately owned...hmmm

What the hell are you defending anyways? Your right to kill yourself slowly AND make others sick? Even if you really do your best to keep your habit from effecting the people around you, you are effecting yourself, And the people who love you. Your sarcastic defense against what Brenda Starr said isn't a defense at all. Don't lash oit at her for stating the TRUTH. Smoking....anywhere, even in your own home effects people, and your environment. I have to shut my damn windows when the neighbor above me goes out for a smoke because it billows into my room and living room......I'm tired of it. I'd also like to know, what the hell is with the perfume and allergies comparison? Moot Point, try again. Like I said, there is no defense for smoking except a personal defense. You can't possibly compare cigarettes to anything else besides cigarettes. I DON'T respect the ACT of smoking. But I do respect the smoker. Of course...that is tangible...since some people just can't stand the fact that their smoking and releasing poison into the air is intolerable. The right for others to kill themselves is their right. Who are you to take that away from them? I bet you're against assisted suicide for suffering old people too. Granted as long as it doesn't effect anyone else, at least not physically. Oh and I am a non smoker as well, I just believe in smokers rights, and Darwinism. Although smoking doesn't work fast enough usually. Crack is awesome, they should switch to that as an alternative.

I never said it wasn't their right to kill themselves, I just don't have to like it when it effects me. And I think suicide is extremely selfish and enrages me.....no defense for suicide, no excuse. As for assisted suicide for people in the hospital suffering, if their going to die anyways, might as well end their pain. This is a thread about my leaving City not a debate on suicide, its ethics and smokers rights....:| And debating about SMOKING in particular isn't what I posted this for. I just didn't agree with the half cocked defense of candy man, comparing perfume and allergies to cigarette smoke. I also have friends who smoke....and I respect and love them, but honestly....I still don't have to agree with or like any of their reasons to smoke. And I never will. Of course...that is tangible...since some people just can't stand the fact that their smoking and releasing poison into the air is intolerable. HOW DARE US ASTHMATICS HAVE A PROBLEM WITH POISONOUS SMOKE! Typing TRUTH in big letters does not make it truth. I do know that people do not like smoking or have health problems with it...but they have alot of trouble getting their point across without being assholes. Considerations for the mathematical mind - People trained to hate smoking and smokers are Big Antismoking Fools (BAF). BAF also applies the “Selective Input Process” (SIP) – that is, they only read information supporting what they already believe. Information to the contrary is dismissed right off, or read only to search for weaknesses and therefore confirm pre-existing belief. That is particularly true when it comes to Big Pharma (BP). BAF hates BP almost as much as he hates Big Tobacco (BT). That is because, in general, he hates Big Corporate (BC) as any good socialist should. That gets them to the point of envisioning a fascist future where Big State (BS) and Big Corporate BC will be happily married and finally BS = BC. In the eyes of BAF, in fact, BS and BC would check each other out giving BAF no bullshit (BS) at all. In reality, however, both BS and BC are equivalent to BS, and will jointly oppress BAF. Today, BC (Big Corporate) = BP (Big Pharma), thus Bp (Big Pharma) x Bs (Big State) = BS square (BS2). The universe of BAF can therefore be expressed by the equation: BAF = BS2 Yeah I should probably never defend anything that I do or like...oh NOW I see what the talking picture box was telling me! jynxxxedangel
Who cares about the smoke? It's the way people interact at those places (under the influence of alcohol), that keeps me away. As A_D mentioned, it can be quite toxic-- especially for anyone who would prefer a stable environment, rather than chaotic.
