The Senate is special. It was always meant to be the chamber of deliberation, where all members were equal and could craft policy irrespective of party. Sadly, it doesn't always work like that.

If Specter honestly and adequately serves the nation and Pennsylvania, I don't really care if he has a "D" or an "R" after his name.

This is just a play to try to stay in office by a career politician.

I'd say that's part true. Let's keep in mind he was a moderate republican from Pennsylvania and quite a few moderate republicans from Pennsylvania switched to the democrats last November

Frankly I think there should be term limits on those people. Seriously when a person is in there for 30+ years how is that helpful to anyone?

But can't you imagine if I was a senator for 30 years?

How great would that be Tits? Especially considering my campaign slogan

Don't vote with your hearts and minds. Vote with your tits and ass.

Yeah! I don't want a doctor or a banker or an auto mechanic or an accountant or a professor or a lawyer who has been in his field for 30 + years. Damn accumulative competency.[/sarcasm]

It's different in politics. When someone has been pushing the same agenda for 30+ years, and refusing to change for the better it's time to get them out of there.

I have to say though I did always like him. Even before the switch. He really isn't a rubber stamp for either side and their aren't too many people left like that on either side

But the problem with Specter is that he has never been known to cast his vote or push an agenda for "the people". He has always taken what ever stance he thought would keep him in office.

That's what the vote is for. I would normally agree with you, except that term limits don't work the way that they are supposed to. Instead, they tend to give lobbyists MORE sway, not less. With term limits, consider the disadvantage when you have LOBBYISTS in the field for 30+ plus years and senators that are permitted only three terms. It's proven a disaster on the state level; I don't want to see what would happen on the federal level.

People would actually have to go out and vote for that to happen. Lobbyist need to be taken out the the equation too, but term limits would definatly be helpful too.

Wait...

Your solution to incompetent elected officials and a disengaged electorate is to make voting less important by instituting term limits? Um... I disagree with your methods of reform.

I personally believe voting is very important, but people would actually have to get off their asses and do it, which the majority doesn't. The only reason I believe in term limits is because you get people like Ted Kennedy and Specter who don't do shit anymore then push their own agendas.
