I think to comment properly i wouldnt feel i was being fair unless i had a nearly encyclopedic understanding of each artists entire body of work to say which is "the XYZ arist of all time..."

I do like several rap songs but have only a cursory understanding of most of the artists that created the individual songs that i like. It may be that the artists i "like" only have the handful of songs that i know that are any good, or the one or two albums that i have that are good.

Even some of my favorite (mostly rock / folk based) artists , i just barely have what i feel is a "resonably full understanding" of the majority of their work. Trying to come up with some sort of sweepign statement about a whole musical genre entire collection of artists living or dead.... eeks.

Don't like a lot ov mainstream rap mainly 'cos the lyrics tend to be so amazingly banal... also it's hard for me to listen to anything that doesn't have guitars in there somewhere. A few I can appreciate for their craft but still don't listen to very much... Eminem, KRS-1, Wu-Tang come to mind. Prolly the closest to a straight rapper I like is Tech N9ne. Otherwise it's the more industrial kind'a stuff like Project Deadman & Marz. And ov course the Psychopathic family... not all ov 'em tho- ICP, Twiztid & Dark Lotus are the shyte, ABK is decent, but I have very little use for Blaze, Esham & JumpSteady.
