Let's Eat Brains!

Recommended Posts

There's some tribal cultures which actually eat animal brains. Supposedly, some types of it are quite nutritious. Yum.

Hardly just "tribal" cultures... calf's brains & lamb's brains are French delicacies and also popular in Mexico... and other places I'm sure. Always wanted to try 'em but wouldn't dare nowadays unless I knew it was from an organically-raised animal.

One of the LARPs I have been to took place in 1948 Guam. We made an emergency landing. on an unknown island looking for a supply cache left over from World War II. We were captured by cannibals, an the only way to prove ourselves was to join them in a meal...of human brains and rice (simulated by pig's brain and rice,) eaten by hand.

The whole experience was made worse when we had to use disinfectant to clean our hands (required before eating any meal at our outdoor up.) The taste of alcohol, the gel of the disinfectant, combined with the brains and rice left much to be desired. No more sweetbreads for me.

Though on a lighter side:

Brains by Voltaire in the orignal Billy and Mandy show.

I thought sweetbreads were actually thymus glands? Of a calf I believe?
