I started off with myspace...eventually turned to facebook...it still feels like I am on the outside watching my friends...but, you all wouldn't post things if you didn't want the "public" to see....right???

no, nothing at all

*looks to see how to delete the results of "how good are you in bed" quiz*

Right. and... lol.

Facebook=MySpace for adults ...who don't have any unusual hobbies.

IE None of us on this forum.

Basically...I have both. I use neither regularly. I use Myspace infrequently. I use Facebook NEVER. I have one so people can contact me if they want to, long lost friends and acquaintances, etc. But if someone tags me in a photo? I untag it. If someone associates me with anything, I try to undo it.

MySpace is based off nicknames. If I google my full name, my MySpace does not come up. Not so with Facebook. Potential employers now often make a habit of checking people out on Facebook. It's no good. I would turn off so many potential employers by my fashion and hobbies, just by my music choices. Some may say I'm selling out by hiding them...but I don't think so. I just keep work and play separate (except when I type on DGN at work... ).

A potential employer needs to know my skills and talents and how I would fit in their team. Not what kind of clothes I wear or what I do on Saturday nights. As long as I show up on time and not hungover on Monday morning, dressed appropriately for work, that's enough.

But as someone else said, the only thing I actually use is LiveJournal. Hell, I use Mixi more than Myspace.

Honestly, at the moment I'm probably far more searchable than I'd like to be, in a perfect world, even as it is. Facebook is like just asking to be searched.

True. But on both I keep them completely private except to friends. People can't see what you don't let them. I don't have that much on MySpace and FaceBook I generally keep a sanitary-ness to it too. At that point, the only thing you have to watch is your comments which a friend of a friend can see. Hopefully none of the people on your friends list is dumb enough to let a corporate HR person into their friends list....

Oh really? I never checked it out enough to even realize you could set it to private. So then people can't see your pictures or anything? How about if you are tagged on someone else's pictures? Though I guess that wouldn't come up from a search of your name so it would be okay. What kind of comments can they see?

If you each comment on a mutual friends thread, then both can see all comments in that thread. Those friends of friends can't see other threads that they aren't part of.

In other words, be selective about who you friend.

Also... You can block people from seeing.

Also again: Check setting in your apps to make sure they aren't giving away info you don't want others to see...

If you have your e-mail address on your resume, then a potential employer could search for you on Facebook OR Myspace. If you have your pages set to private they're not going to be able to see much, though.

Not if you have 2 email addresses - I have one that is my username on here and one that is my firstname.lastname. I think these days most people have more than 1 email address. I actually have 4 or so that I use regularly.

I don't use my last name online. I like having very clearly defined lines between different areas of my life, so I keep my online persona completely separate from the daily-grind world. The only place my full name appears online is on the school website and the delicious account we're required to have. Both Myspace and Facebook profiles are private so no one is going to just stumble across them, even if they happen to see a comment by me on someone else's page. And, like OsakaKoNeko, I have an email addy that's only used for daily-grind stuff & isn't listed anywhere else.

Facebook actually gives you a fair amount of control over what is and isn't visible to just anyone. Isn't always easy to figure out how, but it is possible... and you can also set it so you don't get notified everytime someone breaks wind or feeds their hamster.

.:nothing is really "private" or "hidden" on facebook and especially not myspace.. just try googling "view hidden profiles".. most don't work anymore, they seem to patch them up quick, but its always possible:.

.:try reading the TOS on a facebook page. they keep your information INDEFINATELY. that means..even if you try to delete it. they still save the info. that sounds scary.. 20 years down the line when i run for president, i'll get denied cause they looked up my facebook page from 2008 and saw a picture of me in a rubber nun suit:.

That's why the only info I put on those things is my name.. I don't really understand why people would put their address & phone number

& Does the rubber nun suit pic really exist??

if you type in my screen name, you will see every post I ever made, on DGN. I've used it for years so if someone I'm working for finds out my regular e-mail, and they google it, I'm not hard to find.... I utterly dispise facebook. I used it, for a time, to get away from the myspace drama that happens, but i got rid of it a while ago. MySpace it is, and MySpace it will stay. I have a livejournal, but I hardly use it. i use my myspace blog.. and you can edit it, like you can your profile, you just gotta know how. :) i was on MyYearbook, too, but its a bigger popularity contest than Vampire Rave. Which I'm on... I also use to be on VampireFreaks, mainly as a member of a support group for people seeking some help with their cutting... those that have kicked the adiction, but need some other support.... I offered advice and whatnot... yeah, it helps when the person who is helping you is someone, who at one point in their life, when through the same thing but is in a stable place with it... but anyways... :)

No want waste my HTML skills, but i still have facebook though...it's easier to keep in touch with people there in facebook. X3

Everything Scary Guy said. Plus, Facebook is just a total overload and I can't figure out most of it. MySpace is much simpler. And I hate how on Facebook every five seconds I get inundated with ...

Your friend is hungry.

Your friend added a widget.

Your friend just had breakfast.

Your friend is going shopping.

Your friend has a new friend.

Your friend took a dump.

Here are a bunch of people you might know but probably don't like.

Your friend gave you a bumper sticker, a smiley, graffiti, a wedgie ...

SHUT UP ALREADY!!!

AGREED!!!!! Need an All APPS OFF button!!!!

It does seem a bit spammy in that regard. I've not really done much with it as yet. I hit the net.. check DGN, and then 2 hours later if there is any time left over... which there often isn't...

I preferred Yahoo 360 to either of the above..

..but sadly, it is going the way of the dodo. The new profile is generic, and you can't cuss, or upload any sort of cheeky photos to your blog (even if they are humourous), due to their new rules.

I'll have to go with MySpace; as it is the best way to find and keep contact with friends, favourite musicians, and events. I enjoy making personal playlists, and I like the new photo gallery editing features, too. Very cool.

Imeem is also a neat social networking site, based mostly upon music and playlists. I frequent it often. You can find just about every song under the sun, there-- and many versions and mixes.

A word of warning; if you should decide to check it out, be sure to have your adblocking programs running. There are LOTS of ads, otherwise.
