Comedy Suggestions?

Any comedic movie/TV/Book suggestions?

The emphasis being on funny. Could use some cheerful stuff. That is.. funny. Rather than what seems to be my usual bent, which is "critically acclaimed" or "important" (whatever that means. :-P ) I think I've got my full boat of Woody Allen movies already in the DVD stock. *ponders*

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TL6bnr4aySY. This is a dark comedy, and it's HILARIOUS.

Surprisingly, it was directed by Madonna! Gogol Bordello is in the film, as well-- with Eugene Hütz as the main character. I laughed all the way through it!!!!

Defiantly a mel brooks fan. Although there are a few I've not seen, probably should hunt them down. Meh, maybe not, might be a bit upsetting at the moment. Good idea for later though.

But as for the rest, will have to do some research. Looks good so far.

Kids in the hall. Uncle Buck. Hah. Good times.

Never heard of "The Boondocks" before. Will have to take a look.

I find Boondocks kind of depressing... although it is very funny. Prolly 'cos, for a boojie-raised African-American person, it's like watching all your family's dirty laundry being aired in public. Kind of a laugh-while-cringing kind of thing.

"Venture Brothers" is hilarious, you do have to start w/the first season tho.

I also recommend "The Young Ones". I even have all the adventures of Vivian, Neil, Rik, & Mike on VHS, which I would love to pass on to a good home. One caveat, it requires really careful listening because of the intense Cockney accents... it really should have subtitles for U.S. viewing. Another hilarious series from the same era, and with some of the same actors, is "The Comic Strip"... Jennifer Saunders from Ab Fab is in that one.

As for movies... O Brother, Where Art Thou? is funny without being mindlessly slapstick-y (don't get me wrong, mindless slapstick certainly has its place), & has really sweet music too.
