Gogol Bordello

Recommended Posts

it was one of those encores that you end up WANTING them to end...but I did love the 3 minute refrain on the open note.

Yeah, the encore was pretty much an entire second set. I didn't want them to end but yeah, I just wanted it to be over.

I had earplugs on my list of things to bring but I packed so hastily I forgot them and suffered for it. I will definitely have them for VNV Nation.

Snap...I saw the spookie one, & the bunnylike one...the red-dusty-one was there & hunted me down...he is SO fuckin' COOL! (even though I secretly hate him for getting free tix & a back stage pass!)

I saw SO many peoples... I saw peoples from just about every other social circle I run in...

oK...

I saw some DGNers (listed above).

Went with some Trixxie's peoples...saw some of our very good friends from there...

Know (& iz familia with) most of the bar staff..there were a bunch of OTHER peoples from that Familial-Click there as well....

I saw a peoples from the MICH-REN-FAIR! That I had not seen in almost 3 years (the person who got O_M_G the job at the herbs store when she moved away)...

I saw a DBK friend that I met when we moved him. (yes, DBK is him own click.)

Hey, Spookie...I known Jade since she was a lil'kidd...she is like me familia.

BAD-ASSED sighting.....after the show...I saw an super-old-school-aquainti-friend...FROM THE LAB LARP! (he's commin' to poetry soon){*giddy*}

I think I may have dug the first band JUST AS MUCH AS THE MAIN ACT!

The vast diversity in instrumentation, coupled with the turn-on-a-dime-orchestration, had me watching them intently for quite a bit of their set; but my O_M_G got to much skreach from the horns & I was thirsty, so we went for a soda at the bar...& ran into like 5 peoples in a row...

.....the DJ was pretty amazing...as I now understand what the fuck goes on when a DJ DJs...

...how long did those gypsy-frieks play for??? My feet hurt..hips hurt..back hurt..knees hurt..leg muscles burnt...it was one of those encores that you end up WANTING them to end...but I did love the 3 minute refrain on the open note.

..oOps...I'm a Goat!...I fergot that I saw MissKitty too!

What an awesome show! Gogol Bordello shows are so much fun! I know some of you were lagging there at the end, but I think they did a good job of bringing the energy back up in their encore. They were a bit long in concluding some of the songs, dredging up more applause and all. My only real complaint was that their female members didn't do the screams I love so much on the albums; LAST year, they participated much more and even had some costume changes. The length of the encore didn't bother me. I could have gone even longer. I didn't even really notice all the energy I expended until well I was well on my way home. And, unlike last year, the opener was a winner. I'm going to have to look into "Madman". What a great surprise.

I love the audience at their shows, too. I saw a good many people from Trixie's and MarsDustDoug, Rev, and OMG from DGN. I think I even saw Susie Sunshine in the crowd. Good mix of ages there, too: some attendees were in their seventies! I even saw a little kid. It seemed to me that everyone had a good time.

Sorry MDD, that the backstage pass thingee was such a bummer. The way the band was interacting with the crowd at the end, you'd think they'd be much more inviting of contact. I loved the running across the stage and the crowd surfing on the drum. Very cool. Last year, a few of the fans found their way on the stage and, much to the obvious displeasure of security, Eugene Hutz wouldn't let them get punted off the stage until they'd had a chance to dance up there. One girl even joined him on vocals for a chorus.

Thank you, Spook, for the best surprise present ever!
