I'm confused.

North Korea states that it has abandoned the armistice, threatens to attack any of our ships that it sees, fires missiles over Japan and detonates a Nuclear bomb... how does that somehow translate into the USA trying to start a new war?

as a side note, if a war did break out with them we would have Russia and China on our side this time. Russia even hinted they would use nukes.

Correct. We have actually been at war with N. Korea since the early 50s. We don't have to jump in, but if we do, Obama does nothave to ask congress or the UN for permission.

Actually, we are not at war... North and South Korea are and we have a mandate from the UN to try to keep a peace between them and fight on behalf of South Korea... we also have treatys with S. Korea that we will come to thier aid.

Right...so then it IS a question of Honor-ing the agreement with the UN & S.Korea. WOW...they REALLY had this one on the back burner...

*wonders what 'Hawkeye Pierce' would say*

North Korea has a strong military.

I doubt it's strong enough to defeat America, China, Russia, South Korea and Japan

Yeah, almost don't seem fair...but how will the number of troops from what countries be decided? & who will be in charge...do we give Kim the Hitler treatment right off? shit...war is to much to deal with...I'm gonna' go buy a Darth Vader piniata~ now...

Well he wouldn't have to if it was a "military action", or did they fix that after Bush?

Technially, Bush was acting under the declared war on 1991. Thats why the UN lacked any teeth to do anything about him invading Iraq.

Not a direct declaration of war, just an authorization of force. If it was a declaration of war, it would have said that.

Although the information seems to be a bit out of date because I thought we formerly declared war recently... I could be mistaken.

OK, let me clarify my statement. Bush was acting under the authority of the authorization to use military force from 1991, the many UN resuolutions that came before and after that time period from that authorized the US to use military force and the Cease fire agreement that Saddam broke many many times.

It's wiki. I'm surprised you trust it at all.

I try to cross reference it with other sources as much as I can. So far, most of the medical and scientific pages I encountered have matched books and trusted reference sources (mdconsult, National Library of Medicine, etc,) have been spot on. For politics and social sciences, I have to try and get more than wiki.

Saw that China is considering joining in on the sanctions with the rest of the countries in the area and the US.

Wiki is a good source of information if it's maintained and checked by everyone (because there are lots who would love to fill it with disinformation).

Also just because they authorized it in 1991 doesn't (or shouldn't) mean that a decade later it's still good. There should be time limits put on these things with options to renew them when put under review.

I agree with you, at least in spirit but Laws are funny things. They don't have experation dates. Saddam signed a Cease fire agreement. He broke it. That gave the others involved the legal authority to go back to war. Our Congress voted to go back to war. The UN did not. There were those at the UN that tried to bring action against Bush and the US. It never went far because this "illegal" war is in fact Legal.

But thats far off topic here... or at least it seems.

North Korea thinks it has the same kind of case.

    • I am currently floored.   FedEx did a massive 6 box delivery to the wrong address.  I had an autoship order scheduled to arrive before this past weekend.  Nothing showed up.  I contacted the order site and they had a link for the order...a photo of all my boxes thrown in the snow and up the sidewalk of a residence that was not mine.   You would think that at some point, the driver would have looked at the delivery address after they kept throwing box upon box at this location with no shelter from the elements.  They didn't even knock on the door to inform the residents that massive 65+ pound boxes were left all over their walkway.  Nope.  Just dumped them, took a photo as they were walking away and left.   I wonder what the person who found all of those misdelivered boxes must have been thinking when they saw them.  Maybe they kept everything to use, distribute or sell.  No idea.  No claim was filed on that end as of yet.   Fortunately for me, one of the sites that I ordered from, replaced everything at no extra cost.   Unfortunately, now I'm concerned for the other items yet to be delivered.   Needless to say, I'll be watching my notifications like a hawk.

    • ~~~~~ Yeah, thank you for the check-in.   Happy to say it was all a misunderstanding.  But she pulled out her "ghetto" and that's when things went South.  I get very professional minded when I enter into situations like that because when someone starts bring the court into conversations, I'm in court 2 times a year, every year, so don't go there with me because I will get legal all over you.   She did try to change what she thought she might have said, but I had to call her on it because it's all in written text.  Then she apologized and we were able to have a decent conversation.   I know I joke about me talking so much that people don't hear what I say except for keywords that they are looking for, but that is exactly what happened here.  She heard "payment", "money" and "help out".  It was crazy.  I literally had to have the entire conversation all over again, but I definitely condensed it to only address those 3 words.   Things are back on track, but I emphasized that if she every needed clarification for anything, please say something first instead of jumping to conclusions, then questioning that conclusion, then answering that conclusion, then getting upset at the answer and taking it out on someone who doesn't have a clue what the San Juan Hill just happened.   But this is exactly the reason I do everything with a paper trail.
