TitsMcGee
LANSING (AP) -- Michigan's transportation department director says motorists can afford to pay higher gasoline taxes and vehicle registration fees to improve their roads. Kirk Steudle warned state lawmakers Tuesday that more than 125 road and bridge projects will be delayed if Michigan does not get more funding. Gov. Jennifer Granholm's administration supports higher gas taxes and vehicle registration fees to improve the transportation infrastructure. But legislators attending a joint committee hearing said it's politically difficult to force drivers to pay more. The state's gas tax is paid per gallon, so when the price of gas goes up there is not more money for roads. The sales tax on gas goes to K-12 schools. This guy is a total moron, who apparently doesn't realized that now like half the state is unemployed. I just filled my tank up, and at 2.93 a gallon up here it took over 50 bucks. I drive 30 miles everday for school. And dammit I thought gas prices were supposed to start going down, not back up.
Scary Guy
And dammit I thought gas prices were supposed to start going down, not back up. WELCOME TO SUMMER! They know you'll be using more gas for fun summer activities so they jack up the price. If you look at the history of gas prices it generally goes up this time of year. We haven't hit $4 a gallon like we did last year... yet... but give it time. http://www.smartmoney.com/spending/rip-off...tell-you-19750/ Page 10 is crap though Even still alternative fuels are a good idea. I think I'm going to switch to a nuclear reactor. Properly maintained there is no chance of meltdown and it will probably outlast the life of the car. Now I just need a new car :(
Msterbeau
The roads need repair.. I get that, but these people live on another planet and think we have bottomless pockets for taxes, fees and penalties to pay to them. Fuck that. Let them face the possibility of layoff for years in a row and see how they treat our money then...
Homicidalheathen
I don't go out much anymore except to work. I ride my bike now and am considering the bus. Gas is THAT expensive. This effects other industry...I am sure, as I stay home to save money...cover charge, a beer or two and gas? Thats a 30 dollar evening. Stay home. jynxxxedangel
I can barely afford basic modern life, as is! It will totally fuck up my current monthly quota/budget, if I have to pay ANY more for gas. Edited June 3, 2009 by jynxxxedangel
