David Carradine found hanged in Thai hotel: Police

BANGKOK (Reuters) - U.S. actor David Carradine was found dead, naked and hanging from a rope in the closet of his luxury Bangkok hotel room on Thursday, Thai police said.

Police said they were alerted to the death of the actor -- who starred as the wandering monk in the long-running Kung Fu U.S. television series -- on Thursday morning.

"He was found hanging by a rope in the room's closet," Lieutenant Colonel Pirom Jantrapirom of the Lumpini police station in Bangkok told Reuters.

He said Carradine's body was naked when it was found and there were no signs of any other people in the room. The body has been transferred to a hospital for an autopsy.

U.S. embassy official Michael Turner earlier confirmed Carradine's death and told Reuters that the body had been found at Bangkok's Nailert Hotel.

"I can confirm that David Carradine passed away in Bangkok. We extend our condolences to his family," Turner said.

Carradine had more recently starred in Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill films as Bill.

yah me to. Suicide not good charma.

I watched his show all the time as a kid

it was one of my brothers fav's

Yeah, no Hell to burn/freeze in...but the negativity in the action of suicide is definitely a wall one (a soul) must overcome.

It (his soul) needs much prayer.

I am happy to send all the Love I can conjure in due haste...truth be told, I'ld have not gotten such the early start on any of this majik-mysticism-meditation stuff were it not for that show Kung-Fu...though he was no great mystic in real life, I shall pray like he was...as to my 5 year old self, he was Kwai Chang Caine, not David...but later, I did really love his other work.

Was this accidental sexual asphyxiation? Sounds a lot like the way Michael Hutchence was found..

You may be right, as they say there was a cord around his genitals. Today some sites are calling it a possible accidental death.

Everyone who saw him the night before said he was in good spirits, joking around, and he was in the middle of shooting a movie, so considering some of that, suicide seems less likely than accidental.

I never thought it was a good idea to wrap a rope around my neck to masturbate.. hmm... ALSO he's David Fucking Caradine!!! even at 70 that dood could have gotten laid easy!!!

I guess I'm just a lazy masturbater, if I have to go through all that just to get off, forget it! If I'm going to set up something that elaborate, I want someone else around to watch it, and enjoy. :unsure:

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Mystery continued to shroud the death of actor David Carradine on Saturday, with rumor and speculation rife about how the star of 1970s-era U.S. television show "Kung Fu" met his demise.

With coroners awaiting the result of toxicology tests, Thai media pointed to suicide or an accident during autoerotic asphyxiation as possible cause of death, two days after he was found naked, hanging dead in his plush Bangkok hotel suite.

Police remained tight-lipped about the progress of their probe on Saturday and the chief investigating officer said it could take several weeks for coroners to confirm exactly how the 72-year-old died.

"What we're doing right now is interviewing more witnesses," Police Colonel Somprasong Yentuam told Reuters.

"It should take roughly three weeks for the blood test result, then we can wrap this case up."

Somprasong said he believed the likely cause of death was asphyxiation.

Thai television said Carradine's body was flown back to Los Angeles early Saturday, although U.S. embassy officials could not confirm the reports.

A maid found Carradine hanging naked by a rope in the closet of his hotel suite at the Swissotel Nai Lert Park hotel on Thursday. He was staying at the hotel while shooting the movie "Stretch."

NOT SUICIDAL

Initial reports indicated a possible suicide, but family representatives in Los Angeles have repeatedly said Carradine was not suicidal.

Tiffany Smith of Carradine's Los Angeles-based talent manager Binder & Assoc said: "It's not where he is in his life right now, he was completely full of life, extremely happy to be going to Bangkok and doing this film.

An employee at the Nai Lert Park hotel told Reuters Carradine was "very happy" and "always smiling" the last time he was seen alive.

Representatives for Carradine declined to comment on media reports that the death was related to autoerotic asphyxiation, which involves intentionally cutting off oxygen supply for strong sexual arousal.

Long-time family friend and Carradine's former lawyer Vicki Roberts, who represented the actor in a past divorce, said press reports of how he was found caused her to suspect foul play.

She said Carradine had no history of using autoerotic asphyxiation.

Me too. Unfortunate kink to have 'cos it's REALLY easy to accidentally kill someone that way. Rarely indulge myself these days, maybe if I found someone who was comfortable with it & who I trusted.

I'm sure it was accidental SOMETHING, no way he would kill himself purposefully. Besides, do you really think David Carradine, if he were to kill himself, would do it in Bangkok, of all places? Come on.
