Free couch

Recommended Posts

I have a large couch, that has been sitting in my shed since last spring. It's dingy, and a bit worn, but it's a good solid piece of furniture, with good cushions. The previous owner had no pets, so there is no animal hair on it, for those of you with allergies.

The only reason it isn't inside the house, is because there is NO way I could ever get this thing in here. It's too long to pivot in, and too wide to fit through the door.

It's that 80s, multi-shades of brown, nubbly-textured-yarn-mixed-with-chenille-type fabric.

Would be a GREAT couch for a garage, basement rumpus room, college student apartment, veranda porch, etc.

The rubbish men won't take it, unless it's completely dismantled-- and I can't bring myself to destroy it.

Why, you ask?

Well, because it belonged to a dear girlfriend of mine, who called and offered some furniture to me, three days before she died. She and her ol' man were getting new stuff, and she knew I could use it. This was the last time I spoke to her, before I was looking at her in a casket. I will never forget her telling me she loved me, as we hung up. Those words will burn in my ears forever. She was in a fatal accident at Montcalm and Oakland Ave-- broadsided by someone who ran a red light; while her ol' man survived, because he was on the driver's side. The impact killed her instantly. She left behind three adult children, many friends, and a very heartbroken mate.

Her ol' man rang me three days after the funeral, and pretty much INSTRUCTED me to come get it, as he couldn't even bear to look at anything which reminded him of her, and it was still sitting on their porch (along with the other, which I was able to fit through my door). It was such a sad day. We couldn't even look at each other, or speak. I knew it would send him over the edge, to discuss it any further at that point.

Anyway, back to the "haunted" couch..

It's currently pretty dirty, as I haven't yet cleaned it since acquiring it. Her ol' man, who is also a good friend of mine, is fond of eating and drinking on the couch, whilst watching the tube. Expect to see a couple of stains. I will hoover it, if anyone wants it, of course.

I need to be rid of this couch, as I am wanting to get some firewood stocked up for winter. Someone PLEASE come and get this thing! It could easily be made to look quite decent, with the addition of a slip cover. there are no holes in the upholstery, but it has some stains. I've not tried to steam clean it, so it may even clean up perfectly.

If anyone expresses interest, I will go out and photograph it, and take complete measurements.

That is all.

If my porch didn't have that rail, I could probably pivot it in through the door..and this thing is very heavy. It would probably take at least three strong men to lift and maneuver it. I suppose I could just slide the steps over, but it would still require a large amount of manhandling.

I like this couch much better than the one that I did get in, but alas, there's just no good effing way of getting it in here!

Unfortunately, the railing is actually bolted on-- so the entire fiberglass staircase would need to be moved. I would need to take actual measurements of the couch, just to make sure that it wouldn't end up being all for naught. The doorway may actually in fact be too narrow.

And then, I would still have another couch to do something with. I suppose I could put it in my bedroom, or something.
