I guess "Green Party" does not mean the same thing everywhere

Recommended Posts

I think they forget that in 1979 they chose to have a Theocracy run by the Guardian Circle of high Mullahs who make every major decision. They even choose who is the "face" of Iran, thier President.

Shit, I was like 4...I don' know not'in' on this one...but I want to!

I wanna' know what the fuck is goin' on...is like, the next gen of Iran wailin' against the Gov that their Fathers backed?

What the fuck is goin' on???

In a nut shell?

In the early 50's we wanted oil from Iran real bad. A democratically elected government told us "NO". US policy was vastly different then than anything you have ever seen. We, as in the CIA, made that goverment die and in it's place an old heriditary leader was put in place. He wanted money and was willing to sell us oil. He was a puppet.

In 1979 the People of Iran staged a revolt. The Shaw escaped to the US. Where Jimmy Carter refused to give him asylmin. Some students (some beleive Iran's current president to have been thier leader) siezed a bunch of people at the US Embasy and kept them hostage for a long ass time. Look up the Iran Hostage Crisus. Carter did jack and shit to get them out. Reagen won the election and days before he took the oath, they released the hostages. They cut all ties with the US. We cut all ties with them. Sanctions and all that. Every President we have had since has made ovatures of various types to open dialoge with Iran. We have backed the regformist as much as we could. The Mullahs run everything. They enforce a strict version of Sharia Law.

thats about it.

I hope everyone on here is keeping up with this event.

This is big stuff, guys. Yet discussion of it is nearly nonexistent while we discuss things like a man pretending to be his mother.

Read, learn, pray, remember.

I had better, more reasonably sized photos, but for some reason I can't get them to post. Read the twitter pages (last 3 links). You will not be dry-eyed.

The median age of Iran is 26.4 years. The revolution happened in 1979, 29 years ago.

Over half of the population did not choose to live like this at all.

Yup.

I saw the clip of Neda's death... deeply affecting. That, people, is the reality of conflict... a little girl dying on the street while her father wails out his grief and shock.

True.

Not that it makes a difference, but I have heard that it was actually her music teacher. But the story also goes that she wasn't even protesting, but just happened to be there...wrong place wrong time. Regardless, poor girl. Regardless of the details of her story, she is now something bigger than the actual details of who she really was...she is the symbol of all those who have died and been injured in the conflicts.

reading alot of this i think we need to pull an old trick or two from the C.I.A. handbook for overthrowing a government. shit we feed guns and anti aircraft rockets to afghanistan when they were at it with russia why not arm these people they try to be peacefull and there government shoots them so fuck there government give them guns teach them how to use them and heck send a couple hundred thounsands troops in there and take over. fuck it these people actually want change and are willing to die for it. now i wish i could see that sort of devotion here but our society is soo stuck on stupid shit to realize that if we work together we might just be able to overthrow our own puppet government and put back this nation to what the founding fathers wanted it to be a government by the people for the people. NOT THE RICH LIL FUCKS THAT SEEM TO THINK THEY HAVE THE POWER. isnt it funny you would think the majority would have the rule and guess who the majority are .... the POOR AKA all of us.

if anyone was hurt or offended by these statements i have made i simply have this to say GROW A PAIR CAUSE IM NOT LOOKING FOR ANY REPLIES TO THIS I DONT CARE IF YOU FEEL PEACE IS THE ONLY WAY IM A REALIST AND GUESS WHAT THE WORLD IS TOO THATS WHY MAN EAT ANIMAL AND ANIMAL EAT ANIMAL AND PLANT GETS EATON, OR WHEN A DOG GOES CRAZY AND BIGHTS SOME KIDS YOU KILL THE DOG YOU DONT GET IT THERAPY.

I understand where you're coming from Constantine...but we did that...in the 50s...then they did not like it...so they blamed us...so we left them alone to overthrow that...& they blamed us.....we didn't do anything this time...& they (some of the people) still blame us.

I say...it is time for other peoples to deal with helping them figure out voting...why do we have to foot the bill?

America...is kinda' busy fixing America.

I think (still) that we could use a bit of seclusion..."a consolidation turn"....think, when you are playing RISK...you don't keep attacking blindly, & spreading your forces thin...which is where we are now militarily.

ALSO...your bad grammar is offensive. ;)

The common thinking seems to be that they'd rather we didn't stick our noses in, not militarily at least. This is their fight, and it should be. They can use our prayers and thoughts and well wishes, and the word out, and the proxy servers and assistance getting the word out, but they don't want our intervention.

Tony Blair spoke in Manhattan on Monday: "[This is an] extraordinary and exciting moment... It's difficult because you want to stand up for people you sympathize with, but President Obama is right, you've got to be careful because your intervention could be used against the people protesting. ... [We can help] by focusing on it, by letting people know that the world is watching and is, in many senses, in solidarity with the people there."

They are already scoffing at the protestots calling them 'puppets of the west'..they need to stand on their own feet and make it clear that this is an internal decision, not something decided by the US etc.

Anyway big speech by Obama in 5min...wish I could watch but I'm at work. :(

From Obama's press conference today:

PRESIDENT OBAMA:

First, I'd like to say a few words about the situation in Iran. The United States and the international community have been appalled and outraged by the threats, beatings, and imprisonments of the last few days. I strongly condemn these unjust actions, and I join with the American people in mourning each and every innocent life that is lost.

I have made it clear that the United States respects the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and is not at all interfering in Iran's affairs. But we must also bear witness to the courage and dignity of the Iranian people, and to a remarkable opening within Iranian society. And we deplore violence against innocent civilians anywhere that it takes place.

The Iranian people are trying to have a debate about their future. Some in the Iranian government are trying to avoid that debate by accusing the United States and others outside of Iran of instigating protests over the elections. These accusations are patently false and absurd. They are an obvious attempt to distract people from what is truly taking place within Iran's borders. This tired strategy of using old tensions to scapegoat other countries won't work anymore in Iran. This is not about the United States and the West; this is about the people of Iran, and the future that they ・and only they ・will choose.

The Iranian people can speak for themselves. That is precisely what has happened these last few days. In 2009, no iron fist is strong enough to shut off the world from bearing witness to the peaceful pursuit of justice. Despite the Iranian government's efforts to expel journalists and isolate itself, powerful images and poignant words have made their way to us through cell phones and computers, and so we have watched what the Iranian people are doing.

This is what we have witnessed. We have seen the timeless dignity of tens of thousands Iranians marching in silence. We have seen people of all ages risk everything to insist that their votes are counted and their voices heard. Above all, we have seen courageous women stand up to brutality and threats, and we have experienced the searing image of a woman bleeding to death on the streets. While this loss is raw and painful, we also know this: those who stand up for justice are always on the right side of history.

As I said in Cairo, suppressing ideas never succeeds in making them go away. The Iranian people have a universal right to assembly and free speech. If the Iranian government seeks the respect of the international community, it must respect those rights, and heed the will of its own people. It must govern through consent, not coercion. That is what Iran's own people are calling for, and the Iranian people will ultimately judge the actions of their own government.

The people of Iraq and Afghanastan wanted the same thing until we gave them the help they asked for.

I will buy a round for the first country in the middle east where the common people grew some balls and went to work by themselves.

Still, no matter what happens we will be blamed for this no matter what we do...I am just waiting to count the double-standards.

I am also waiting to see how much money NATO feels they will need to toss at the fighting to do nothing more than extend the supplies and bloodshed while guys in powder blue helmets watch and eat popcorn.

Who really cares how this all came to pass? Its the past and we can't change that...all it will do is create more to bitch about while fingers point wildly...just fix the shit...that being said I still blame the ghost of the U.S.S.R...the idiots really messed up as many countries as they could before they fell to an end they all saw coming.

This really isn't new news its just bigger than before and for some reason people care now...probably because they can put even more blame on the US for something. Still I hope we don't give them shit for aid because they go beyond biting the hand and just hack off the naughty bits!
