Preparing For Halloween

I'm in that mood and am currently trying to plan ahead for the Halloween season. I'm getting supplies and planning new ways to decorate this year on a limited budget and with what I have collected over the years. I'm going to try to do something bigger then this from last year.

I should start planning a costume idea too, but I just can't seem to think of anything really good.

So does anyone else here like to plan ahead like me and what are you all planning to do for that season?

I'm trying to plan ahead but with not knowing what will happen here, I'm not sure what I'll be doing if I can decorate. I know a way to make the old style curved top tombstones using insulation foan sheets and how to make them look somewhat aged. Hoping to do that again.

I keep a lot of my Samhain decorations up all year 'round. The only things that change around here, are the outdoor and window decorations.

I think i will put some displays on the roof this year. I'll have to add some lights so that they can be seen at night. I also think i'll try to use the high branches on the trees this year to hang a few skeletons this time.

I used to hate the idea of inflatable decorations. But now that I have a son, I have to be a little more child friendly with some of the displays. These things look great at night. I was surprised. This year, I'll get a night picture to post to everyone.

Am I the only one that goes all out on home decorations here?

I love dressing up for Halloween! Depends on the budget, on how far I dress up.

I like your Halloween decorations! My favorite is the graveyard surrounding the tree. I understand that it suppose to be scary. But to me, it cute! Like other previous posts, I have to wait and see about outside Halloween decorations. I have a lot of my plate, and it depends on how everything play out.

Stuff like the gargoyles statues and the lights (which will remain off til Oct). Then I'll start bringing everything else out in Oct. I'm still debating how often I want the inflatables on. The good news is some of the pumpkins displays can be used in Nov.

We usually keep our Christmas lights up year round, because I'm to lazy to take them down lol. I wish my parents would let me do more for Halloween, but there are some bad apples in the neighborhood that have egged houses the past few years so we don't. This year I'm tempted to sit outside with the BB gun and shoot them in the butts.

It all depends on what you are use to and how you feel about what your neighbors think. I like to have nice things, but there is always going to be someone or something that will damage them. For example, the gargoyles are resins and I had to coat them with weather protector. I do know that if any water gets in any crack on it and freezes, it'll break them. We all hear about inflatable decorations getting stabbed. My household likes to decorate according to the seasons because having the same thing up all year long is boring.

Besides, sometimes it's more of the planning and working on it that is funner then having it done already.

OK, this may sound odd..

I love tacky, vintage dime store Christmas decorations-- equally as well as I love Halloween decorations. Santa Claus cut-outs, tinsel, styrofoam ball snowmen, plastic holly berries, spray on snow, kitschy elves, glittery polyester batting, shiny glass balls, aprons bearing Xmas messages, holiday printed table cloths, hand towels with holiday appliques, lots of colourful light strands, etc., I just love the same stuff that makes many folks think the holiday has become too commercialised.

A secret confession: I LOVE Christmas music, too.

I always leave a few things from Xmas out, where only I might notice them right off.

I actually live on a dead end, hence the irony. This year I have one of those Halloween X-Mas tree, which I will have up either on the porch in the backyard or in the house. I'm going to see if I can get away with having it up to X-Mas.

On another note, I have a red dragon mask which I'm debating on selling off. Only used it for displays and it doesn't go with my theme. Maybe I'll sell it on Craigslist.

The bright side you don't own a condo. It could be a challenge trying to do that with a condo.

I did live in a condo for a while. Due to the policy, I couldn't decorate the place. But then, I found a loop hole. There is nothing in the rules about decorating your car! For the whole month of Oct, I had skeletons, demons, and bodies in it.

The only other bad thing about the condos is that they don't get trick or treaters.

I agree about condos. I will never buy another one. It great not to worry about cutting grass, etc. But having your freedom limited, I don't like. The association dues rising without vote, I don't like either.

Just remember that planning is different from actually decorating three months in advance! If you really want to get some cheap good stuff, just check out those dollar stores in mid August. Let's just say the good stuff goes fast there.

This thread is making me want to make tombstones again. Still considering making a coffin. I'm going to start making plans, will just have to see if I am still here to do it.

After looking at the house from the front, I think I'm going to try to make use of the roof this year. All I need to do is add some lights so that they can be seen at night. I'm going to make a dummy look like it's hanging on for dear life from falling off the roof above the upstairs roof. I'll make it look like it was originally trying to decorate. Maybe even make one for X-Mas too!

I'll try to do the ghost feet up the trees or wall of the porch. I could put the light up skeleton arms and legs on the roof also. I may create another monster or three with some of the mannequins and old masks.

The trees are a lot taller then seen in the picture. I think I'm going to hang a lot of those plastic skeletons on them.

Most of the trees inflatables will be near the porch while the pumpkins ones are close to the trees due to plug access.

There will be lights going from the porch to the trees and back. Red, orange, and purple will be the colors.

Late night brain storming. Can't sleep.

If anyone has any other ideas from looking at the original picture posted, I'm up for ideas.
