9 Mile Bridge over I75 blown up by tanker truck accident.

How awful!

And gotta love the comments underneath from people bitching about how gas prices will go up and how long it will take to get to work tomorrow. Way to look at the big picture, guys!

The people that comment on Freep stories are some of the most bigoted, self-centered idiots ever.

And they still don't know how it happened? Has anyone thought to question the person who was driving the tanker? They should have some kind of idea how their truck exploded...

Read the story. Someone in a car lost control in front of the truck. He was avoiding that.... Not his fault. The motorist will likely be crucified...

yeah that cought my attention. looks like the joker blowing up a hospital. those tankers go up man. It's not loke in the movies. it's twice as big a blast as you think. potentially it could leave a crater in the ground half a city block in size. the drivers make alot of cash doing that but the responsability and risk is very high. if you live then you face criminal charges for any damage and time for loss of life or injury you cause. on a hot day static electricity, lightning, a careless smoker, lots of hazards to avoid. the oklahoma city bombing was just a small box truck compared to a large tanker. I mean don't get me wrong blowing things up is cool an all but it's just not socially acceptable these days. at least the city still has the financial capacity to remove the wreckage and maybee even repair the damage. or else things are looking bad for detroit if it continues to go the route of a blasted and blighted war zone. my uncles micigain works thing said there was 8 jobs available and 1500 applicants for each job.

I had just seen the story on the morning news (channel 4 i think) and they said they didn't know what happened... I hadn't had a chance to confirm anything elsewhere... just glad no one was seriously injured.

Edited for grammer. Still not perfect but oh well.

I have several friends in that area,if this vehicle was carrying propane it would have been way worse.

in 2002 a truck carrying propane crashed and exploded like a nuke in the Flint area, took out RR tracks and a bridge on Dort Hwy

unfortunately the driver did not make it.

seems like a stupid driver in a car is at fault, but will have to wait to find out when this is fully investigated

Yes, getting home from work will now suck for the forseeable future. I live just over a mile from the accident site. I'm glad no one was hurt, but I agree that the person driving the car is going to get hung out to dry.

They just finished some fairly major repairs to the overpass not long ago, too.

The trucker will take the heat.

Actually it was the bridge that took the heat which is why it collapsed.

Most people don't realize that driving a semi is one of the most dangerous professions out there.

Last time I saw a list, "elephant trainer" was the most dangerous.

Sadly it doesn't matter if it was a car that caused it or not. The trucker will take the heat.

Most people don't realize that driving a semi is one of the most dangerous professions out there. And one of the most under appreciated.

From the articles I've read, they are praising the tanker driver, and the driver of the Meijers truck for taking such quick action. Without it there would have been deaths I'm sure.

Yeah, its some foreign guy who just started driving. New or not, he knew he was going too fast for those curves and did what every other dumbass does and that is create an accident. Its been shown in fact that a high percentage of truck/car accidents are the fault of cars because they choose not to take caution being around big vehicles. And for those wreckless truck drivers out there driving those rigs like they are cars, well, we call them steering wheel holders and not truckers lol. Ain't that right Frank?

And from what I understand, he's not feeling badly about it. He apparently refuses to apologize.

This is why he will get a bad rap. He created the whole scene, and doesn't feel like apologizing. What a complete idiot. He will make others look bad for his actions. A great shame, as I see it happen all the time on the road and never a cop around to catch them doing it. So they get away with it again.
