We don't hang enough people

Case in point...

I like women with long dark hair and nice asses. Athletic builds.

Coworker likes dark haired women with a little bit of meat on them.

I know guys who prefer redheads.

Then there are those who like little boys. Ok, you suck at life...but keep hands off. Touch one? Get a noose.

Bury a little girl alive? How about we hang you up by your ankles, put some asprin in ya to thin the blood and cut your fingers off and bleed you out.

Kill a little boy in front of his sister? You get wrapped in fishnet and have the squares of skin that protrude cut off. Once a day, get dipped in lemon juice until the shock finally kills you.

We as a society are just too damned nice to some people.

And, if you find out the first trial by peers was wrong and the guy you just flailed was innocent? I say jail for 5 years and re-try before execution. At least that way there is a better shot that science can clear the innocent. They've executed many an innocent person before.

I'll admit to being more draconian in punishment than most of my views of the world tend to be (comes with having a veteran police officer/chief as a father, and seeing some of the stressors of his life.) I can't tell you how hard it is to keep the flash of evil, vitriol-laden spleen I want to vent in check at some of the more heinous crimes I have seen in the news and by some of our postings. I can understand the need for vengeance and payback.

But I also have to temper it with the belonging to a society. And I also remember the two quotes from Fyodor Dostoevsky:

"Nothing is easier than to denounce the evildoer; nothing is more difficult than to understand him."

and

"The degree of civilization in a society can be judged by entering its prisons."

I would like to understand how some of the more deviant criminals come about, so that intervention happen, so that eventually (pipe-dream, but hey, there's hope,) that we have less of a need to hang people, because there are less of them.

Bleeding heart a-holes will do anything to protect a molester, serial killer, and even some of the convicted terrorists in Gitmo.

If you are 100 guilty of a sick/disgusting crime (DNA testing being used) involving children and any other innocent people must pay with their life.using taxpayer money to house this kind of human trash is BS.

I most definitely agree that we waste way too much taxpayer money housing criminals. They have so many programs in the penal systam to rehabilitate that it's cheaper to get an education (while limited) through being locked up. You can get a trade school level of education on the taxpayer dime, and that's great if you've only done a small offence. If it would be mildly helpful for someone busted with say drugs, but long term folks, why bother?

Though, now I wonder what the frequency is of those short term offenders that enroll in educational programs....

I'm going to ponder.

A lifetime of solitary confinement - never again hearing another human voice, never feeling another person's touch, just said offender living with himself for the rest of his life.

Supply them with the basic necessities periodically and keep them monitored in the event of any medical emergency but, yes, never again allow them human contact or interaction.

The case of the man who murdered a boy in front of his sister, videotaped it and made the little girl burn her brothers body -

execution.

This girl in Monroe who was buried alive?

They find who did it - execution.

Yes, there are going to be occasional punishments dealt that were errors. As long as there is a human element, there is going to be error. All we can do is constantly strive to ensure that the lowest margin of error exists. It is unfortunate and tragic when an innocent man is convicted but that is no reason to allow hundreds to walk free.

Mind you, the cases I mentioned are all extreme cases of child rape/murder/molestation. In those cases, which I see as being the most horrible crimes a human being is able to commit - there is no extreme undeserved.

I think some beings simply need to be removed from society permanently. If you perform certain actions like torture killings or child rape, you may be a 'hominid' of sorts, but not a civilized, empathetic, rational human.

I have thought about this a lot. I don't really know a solution, such a complicated issue but I know that if someone hurt or killed someone I love the sheer rage I would feel would drive me to want to kill them, not just see them get the death penalty, but actually kill them myself. I wonder what would happen if we allowed the victim's families to carry out the death penalty? Uncivilized I realize but seems it would perhaps give them some peace (or haunt their minds even more, who knows for sure).

I have read that the original eye for an eye laws were to actually balance things out because at that time instead of an eye for an eye often retribution would go much further than the crime committed and kill not only the person but their kin, so that was actually less violence in the end.

Then there are those who say violence just breeds more violence. It does seem too kind to some of these monsters to have their suffering ended. Since it costs money to feed and house them they should have to work their ass off producing something that can be sold to pay the cost.

That last part is a totally kick-ass idea. However, I am not so sure about it at the same time. If they were to be locked up and forced to work off the cost of imprisonment, aren’t we essentially giving them shelter, food, and a job? I say leave the later three for hard-working, good-hearted people. They most likely need it more.

I totally agree on the point that it would be too nice to just off them.

For one, some of those people are so sick and twisted they probably want nothing more then to die. I definitely don’t want to give them what they want. They don’t deserve the satisfaction.

For two, I cannot bring myself down to their level, as in the “eye for an eye” idea. I understand that this is a very favorable concept. I admit that there have been times where I wanted vengence against someone who had wronged me. Even the Old Testament preaches the “eye for an eye” ideals at every chance it can. (Leviticus 24:19-21 "If a man injures his neighbor, just as he has done, so it shall be done to him: fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth; just as he has injured a man, so it shall be inflicted on him. Thus the one who kills an animal shall make it good, but the one who kills a man shall be put to death”)

My personal belief is that if everyone followed this way of dealing with their problems all we would have left would be a bunch of blind people unable to see the error of their ways.

My solution = Put all convicted of previously stated crimes on a deserted island. This idea incorporates all good aspects of punishment. They are completely isolated from society. The only people they will come in contact with are criminals that are as equally demented as themselves. Similar to a prison environment. However, there will be no guards, no wardens, no guns, and no cells.

Also, provisions will not be given to them. They must work to survive. They must find food, shelter, and potable water all on their own. Being an island with limited supply of all of these, this means that they must also compete with each other for survival. Let good ol’ Darwin decide who deserves to live or die. And don't forget, these absolutely hideous crimes, I am truly sorry to say, will continue to happen over time. So, therefore more people will be continually added to the island, creating even more competition.

You never know, they may just start killing each other. :wink

Of course, precautions must be taken before this plan can be put into action. The island must be made “escape-proof.” We wouldn’t want them making their way back to civilization.

((Please inform me if I am just a moron))

The criminals probably should get disposed of in terrible ways...but it will never happen. We probably won't even have injections anymore after a few years.

We way we are willing to commit to this yet on many other counts we are trying to push away from such actions. Shit, we can't even figure out what the hell is considered "torture" anymore...apparently it can be as tame as just poking someone in the face with a stick.

As long as we live in a country that can't make up its own mind and seeks to pacify through bans and regulations we are going to keep pampering EVERY criminal like they have done nothing wrong.

Or, we could REALLY be like Europe and keep out prisons the same as they were in 1918...then you would never have to execute anyone because a 30 year sentence would make them nothing more than a hollow shell.

It is barbaric. It is crude. Human life is human life, yes. Just like canine life is canine life. We as human beings need to remember that we are no better than the other animals on this planet. In many ways, we are worse.

Now, if we are willing to put down animals that are better than us - for a myriad of reasons, then why shouldn't we put down *our* animal selves just because we happened to develop more speech patterns than many animals and have thumbs?

What animals are put down in such a cruel way as you talked about before?

If the animals really feel that they need justice for something we have done to them, well, let them come and get it...

We are not talking about animals here...we are talking about VERY complex beings. Now, I know we all try to look like deep thinkers by looking at animals and men and spouting crap about us being no better...but there are many, MANY things that affect our lives more than the lives of animals. We have more complications. So, it is very stupid to take a criminal and to think that we can ever find out why they did it...and it is even worse for us to think that anything we do to them will make any of this shit better.
