City Club And Others Please Help, Visiting

Recommended Posts

Well after a long well to do, I will be in Detroit mid part of September, due to family and wedding (not mine) obligations I will have one evening on a Friday to be able to go out and hear and see what Detroit has to offer. I know its some time away but I wanted to see what all was available. I am staying around Sterling Heights the night I am available.

- Any suggestions on a friday night of places to go

- How safe is city club and the area

- I am into electronic, house, dark wave,nu wave, industrial etc music.. just like hearing good music with good folks.

any help would be great, and Thank you in advance.

once I make the general idea of where I will be and you would like to say hi or grab a drink let me know.

Go to City Club ! ! !

Our dj's do play requests, come up to the booth and say HI, they won't bite and they like to meet our out of town Guests ! ! !

Cover is ONLY $3 before 11 and $4 after, check out our posts about Friday night here on DGN or our myspace for the secret Code # to get in for FREE before midnight ! !

Doors @ 10, and we stay open till 4:30am ! ! !

Our security keeps it pretty safe inside.

Outside isn't really that bad, it is DETROIT, so keep your wits about you.

I suggest you park in the secured lot adjacent to the Leland on the 1st St side of the building.

I hope this helps u out, if U have n e questions, feel free to pm me and I will do what I can.

Safe travels and welcome back to Detroit ! ! !

Friday && Saturday both are cityclub nights.

Saturdays are by far better then fridays. Like the post above me said, it IS Detroit... But the area isn't too bad. Just park in the parking lot, and cityclub IS safe, theres TONS of security.

Thank you LittlemissluckyCUNT,

I only would be able to go on a friday.. but hopefully it will be busy.

City Club is the only place that has anything going on friday/saterday for goth/industrial. Friday usually has better music going on, but less people than on saterdays. My prefered DJs at city are pleasure kitten and Saint (I like the others as well but I know PK and Saint personally)

Not only is it a good place to have fun but we DGN's are there making it more lively then normal. So much so that time will fly by from all the fun you will be having so let me welcome you to a new addiction.

Sounds fun, what time are you all open till?

Doors are 10pm-4:30am... usually the best music is played is at the beginning of the night.

I beg to differ - this depends on your tastes.

Often after 3 they'll play some awesome older gothrock stuff, like Siouxsie, older Depeche, Cure, even once in a while Bauhaus or ASF. I love this stuff so I approve of this.

But every week is different and every DJ is different, so you don't know what they'll play exactly. But I don't think it's true (in my opinion) that they play the best stuff early on. I usually try to stay until the end unless I am dead tired.

Oh, and if you get there at 10....well...just don't do it. Firstly, the first hour is not an actual DJ anyway, just a CD - because no one is there yet. No one. Get there just before 12. That's when people start showing up. Any earlier than 11 and you could be the only one there besides staff.

But if you pay attention to this board, you can get the "secret number" to let you in free before 12, so many people try to get there by 12 to take advantage of that.

Thanks dead,

so if I left mid evening, where else is there to go in the city?

There are casino's in the area that are open 24/7 if you have any interest in that.

As for the music, it really is all a matter of taste. For the past month in fact, on friday nights when the floor starts to die down, they totally change the style of music being played. This usually only happens around 3:30 though.

Park in the lot and you'll be fine. Downtown is as safe as you'll find in an urban area these days... of course you want to keep your wits about you but since the casinos opened they keep a pretty good watch over things. But do park in the lot, last time I didn't my car was broken into.

Never been to any of the casinos (don't get me started on a "assholes who stand me up" rant), but by all accounts they're worth a visit even if you're not into the whole gambling thing. MGM is close enough to walk if you park in the Leland lot.

Yes, City tends to be a pretty friendly place. Inside is safe as houses, but as everyone else said, keep your eyes open and head up outside. I've been going, mostly alone, for over 10 years and never had anything bad happen except 1 car break in. Use common sense and you'll be fine. Oh yeah, and Cash. Bring cash. I guess City does run tabs now, but there is a high minimum.

Out of curiosity, are you Dallas/Ft. Worth based? Was down there a few years ago and impressed with the layout of the Church.

Yes I am in Dallas!

Yeah the place is pretty good, there has been a new contender in town for the past couple years called Panopkton ran by Dj Lord Byron. Its thrown at the old Club one , which now is Club Exxcuses. I think the scene there is a bit more friendly, always a hot of regulars, but its only on Friday , compared to The church which is at The Lizard lounge and is on Thursdays and Sundays. I would say at Pano, you get more music is more ecetik IMO, both are good though. The chruch is huge, with the two stories but so is the other venue.. so if you are in town try both if you are able too.
