Some of you may remember my Workplace intimidation thread

Well, I wrote a letter to HR which really pissed off my boss.

Since then I've been written up for stupid crap, and I knew my days were numbered.

Still, being one of the best in the field for the nearly useless low-paying profession I have, I sent a resume on careerbuilder, had an interview the next day, and will be starting on Monday.

Great huh??

Not quite.

My job has two payscales:

Minimum wage---$1250/mo--minus tax---minus nearly $1000 to the ex--minus $100 life insurance for her

(don't ask-I got really screwed in the divorce)

OR

Minimum wage plus volume bonus.

I was looking to be at $1250+$1000 by the end of the week.

I was one away from the first level.

I put in my one-week notice on Monday----

in a letter that was WAY too generous and complimentary to the low-lifes I work for, because

I wanted to leave on a high note and show my workplace that I will never morally or ethically sink to their level.

THEY RESPONDED BY PLUNGING TO AN ALL TIME LOW

"Nice letter. But if you're leaving, you leave now. Pack up your shit and get out of here"

So, my $1000 bonus was gone.

I worked last Saturday instead of hanging out with bean, Burrich, and Hunhee for absolutely NO FUCKING REASON.

And when I said "But I've got four balls in the air. I need those units to pay my ex, and my customers are counting on me.

I even had my customers schedule around my surgery just so they could work with me.

That's right.

I had surgery yesterday.

I'm working for quite the cuddly bunch here.

SUMMARY

I'm behind on my bills,

I had surgery the next day,

I came in on a Saturday when I wasn't scheduled to work,

I got four deals in motion---WHICH THEY WOULD PROFIT HEAVILY OFF OF if I finished the week out

AND

I put in notice because I wanted to be an upstanding guy.

And they told me to go fuck myself

"No one puts in notice around here. I'm surprised you didn't know that. I didn't think you were that stupid.

Good luck at that boiler room you're going to. Have a nice life"

Then I went to surgery, and had a nice post-op experience with a bunch of DGNers last night.

But inside I'm seething, and have no idea where to put this mix of resentment, rage, and sadness.

I got screwed out of $1000 because I was an upstanding person.

And we really needed that money.

THIS IS A WARNING

If you had a bad relationship with your boss, guess what,

they're not going to be a reference or recommendation, anyway.

CUT AND RUN!!!!

FUCK PROTOCOL

Seriously, always evaluate what the worst case scenario is to any decision you make.

I didn't and now I'm paying the price.

I am assuming that this employer does not meet the requirements to pay into unemployment insurance, right?

Nah. I mean my new job starts Monday. I'm in a sector where the last week often equals the first three weeks in terms of pay.

So, basically I busted my ass for a month working 55 hrs/wk and should've gotten a couple thousand for it and they got away with paying me min wage for my efforts (based on a 40 hr work week) AND as a bonus won't even be paying me for the last week.

After taxes, the ex's cut, etc. I probably netted about $300 this month

You're never going to be rid of your anger and resentment until you swallow your pride, go back there, and shit in your boss's desk when he's out of the office.

Complimentary hot lunch.

That is the best advice I've gotten in a long time :thanks:

And thanks to everyone else for their support.

In addition.....

May your old boss, and for good measure, anyone who looks like your old boss come down with violent chronic diarrhea coupled with a hardcore case of Crohns disease, and a lifetime of hot irritable bowel syndrome!

Sorry Eternal, this really sucks! It's amazing what kind of frickin' cutthroat games we have to play sometimes, even though it may make us feel dirty, just to come out ahead.

It won't do anything for your financial situation, but maybe it would be a good release to write another letter to them telling them exactly what you think about them, and what hell you went through there. I would also write a letter to the owner, CEO, or whomever is in charge of everything to let them know what happened to you.

Thanks.

I've thought about it, but they probably wouldn't care.

Anyway, I hate to write anything before I get my final paycheck. As small as it is, it should be more than zero.

Wow, that company sucks. Will you share with us who it is?

I don't advocate burning bridges with decent companies but if you work for asshats, do it.

The company I work for, I left 6 years ago from. Was gone for 3 years. When I ended up laid off, my old boss offered me not just a job but a better job than what I had.

About a year later one of my customers offered me a higher paying job in writing. I showed it to my boss and after a little negotiation I ended up staying with my company and getting a $12k a year pay increase.

Pick and choose your battles, only burn the bridges that NEED burnt.

That one - needs burnt though.

I'm going to keep this one to myself.

I afford myself the luxury of being ridiculously candid about my life, and then stop short of names so as

not to tip off my ex, who is a google whore.

Besides, I work in a crooked industry. I have no idea if my new boss will be the same sleaze as my old one.

You want to know how nice I am?

I even called one of my customers, and told them to go back and deal with a specific person, because he's struggling this month, and I want him to hit his bonus.

NO ONE deserves to bust their ass at a place 55 hrs/ to make $1250. It's insulting enough to work there in the first place.

Every time I see one of those news articles about how we are too obsessed with working more just to make the BIG MONEY, and our priorities aren't right, it makes me want to retch.

I work a lot just to make ends meet, thank you very much

I agree. I don't necessarily bust my ass at work but I do work harder than most everyone else there. If I worked 55 hours in one week, I'd be lucky to get $600 and that includes the overtime premium. I really need a better job.

Minimum wage is $7.40 an hour in Michigan, higher in certain counties. Time and a half is paid after forty hours. So, 55 hours at minimum wage is ((7.4 * 40) + (7.4 * 1.5 * 15)) = 462.5 a week, or 1,850 a month.

Dude... you would have been better off shoveling horse crap at a huge ranch or something for minimum wage.

You made 600 dollars less than minimum wage. Commission jobs are horrible. Or at least that job was horrible.

That's depressing. His job was horrible.

Waitress/waiter pay is still only $2 and some odd change, per hour. I don't know how this can be legal. Just imagine trying to live off that, after a bad week of tips. This is why I will NEVER work in food service again. Especially since there is a lot of side-work involved. It's basically slave labour.

I know where Michael worked. Out of respect for his situation with the psycho-ex I won't say where, it is here in open forum. I don't see any problem with doing so in private though. Fuckers will never get my business ever. whistle.gif
