Potty training?!

Recommended Posts

With my daughter, went from diapers to "pull ups" and led into it slowly. Started with asking her if she had to go potty from time to time. When I'd have to change her pull-up, I'd remind her to let me know when she had to go. I used the stereotypical language of "potty like a big girl" because it works and I choose to use positivity instead of negativity when dealing with her.

It was gradual, it required some patience but in a few months time she was going on her own. It just had to be eased into day at a time.

You just have to keep going over it w/ him.. We used a reward chart for our son & that worked the best.. He got a star every time he went on the potty... & Then a prize at the end of the week. It is also important to get all excited when he goes on the potty, it is very encouraging.

It was like a party in our house every day he pooped in th potty :hrhr:

& I found it worked the best to train him on the peeing part first & then on the pooping... But they are all different.

Edited to add.. We used Pull-ups as well, they are a great transition.

Encourage, but don't push too hard. They're ready at different ages. I've seen different "aids" to make the experience fun. You might try some of those. One thing that help with mine was a book about it. It was interactive. We'd read it to them and let them participate to help learn. That said, both my girls took FOREVER to finally get it.

Personally I'd stay clear of "prizes" as your setting them up to expect that sort of thing all the time down the road. Positive affirmation and a hug should suffice for rewards. I like the chart idea.
