Lilly420
Just dyed my hair blue and I want some nice dark, vibrant blue lipstick to go with the new look. Anyone know of where I can find some around here? I live near Lakeside, but I checked most of the stores there. Nobody could help me out. They all suggested waiting for the Halloween shipment to come in, but costume make up is always kinda... shitty... >.< Someone told me that I should take some lip gloss and some blue eyeshadow and mix them and use it that way, but wouldn't that be all gritty and not feel good on the lips? -Lilly-
AstralCrux
Just use a fun blue eyeliner. Your friend is right though, lipstick base is based on lip balm and the coloring comes from a mica pigment. I have mica pigment eyeshadow that is designed to mix with lip gloss to create a lipstick- if I want. I'll have to find out what the name of the brand is. If you're really dedicated to this idea I can give you some recipies and if you search lipstick mica on google you should come up with the base powder to mix with a beeswax based lip balm. Bonus: if you add lots of peppermint flavoring- not only do you taste good, but it plumps your lips a bit.
pomba gira
Sinful Colors makes a few blue shades. You can find this line at urban beauty supply stores (the kind that are owned by Korean people)... which are a good source for beyond-the-pale lip colors in general. Another thought- I'd be surprised if Kryolan doesn't make a blue lip color. If you're not familiar with Kryolan, they make professional theatrical makeup and have been around forever. A quick (very) Google turned up these: Amphigory GlitterToGore HowCool.com this one is by Manic Panic; a good number of online outlets carry this line. Pretty sure I've seen it on Amazon. TygerLili
I agree that a loose pigment powder in blue would work better to mix with lip balm that a regular eyeshadow. The Halloween stores should be stocking up any time now. Some of their make up is crappy, some isn't so bad. The employees might be able to recommend a better quality brand. Lilly420
Thanks ladies! I can't wait until Halloween ^.^ I get all of my best outfits around this season! Is the mica pigment something I can get at a Sally's or something? I didn't actually know that lip gloss was beeswax based - I was always told it was fish oil based. AstralCrux
Lipgloss has several bases, one is beeswax and olive oil- I like to make things as natural as possible. I'm sure I could get back into researching the other more complicated bases, but like I said- the more natural the better.
Lilly420
I went to 2 Sally's Beauty Supply stores today and no one knew what I was talking about when I asked for mica powder or when I explained its use to them. Can someone give me a name brand or 2 to work with? Thanks

BloodCupcake
Usually I find that cheaper brands make crazy lip colours. Try beauty supply stores, MAYBE Hot Topic might have some or maybe Party City? I'm not sure. The best I can say is wait til stores get their Halloween shipments in and then ask for the best brands if of lipstick they have. Maybe Spencers might have some? Or try a brand like Urban Decay...they supposedly have all different colours.

Urban Decay has totally lame lip colors (well, if you're cinnamon-complected and like really dark shades)... but they do have pigment powders, including a dark sparkly blue ("Goddess"). Ulta carries the line... Hudson's (sorry, I will call it that till my dying day!) used to but none of the ones up here do anymore... they still might down that way though. taysteewonderbunny
Why not use Tempera paint over a lip conditioner and finish off with gloss? It's non-toxic even though it tastes gross and you will definitely get the intensity I think you are looking for.
progeer
I use to wear blue colored lipstick but eventually moved to using more warm tones and the like. However if you want a decent type that will stay you may have some luck checking out a costume place in Ypsi called "Fantasy Attic". They use to be A2 based but they moved to the Ypsi area for a larger store. You can find anything from cheap to really high quality makeup supplies there depending on how much you want to spend. If you want to go the super cheap and easy route wait another month and most places(Meijers, Walgreens, CVS, etc) will start carrying Wet 'n Wild's halloween colors. I'm not a big fan of them but they will get the job done. Hope that helps ^_~

victoriavengeance (1)
yeah, that one isn't too difficult to find. check party city, sephora, beauty suppliers.. you're sure to find that one. also, not all chapsticks are made of beeswax As it is a sealant to the skin, I prefer not to use chapsticks with beeswax; it is generally used in chapsticks because it makes the substance firmer/harder. They tend to have darker richer colors. When I want that color I just start with a deep wine red and smear a little black eyeliner pencil into it. That way I can tailor the shade to look good with my skin tone. Just make sure the red you start with is matte.
