Meeting Spots

I don't know, because I'm new, if this site and its members have a meaning to madness or not, a plan, a guide...so on for meeting up, where, when, and why....but I have a few suggestions.

New Town, New City

New venue, stage, place location..blah blah

And maybe a sub reason for showin' up.

Example ::

New Meet Up Spot

Place : Plymouth Coffee Bean

Date/Time : Friday Night (place date here) at 7pm to ??

Purpose : Poetry gathering, artwork show off, check out new band......blah blah

Benefit to this... we can eventually cover some terrain, get closer to some who cannot get out too far

We can pass out more DGN cards, meet others....

Keep it cheap and simple

I just want to know what everyone thinks of this because I'm seriously tempted to post meet ideas on the board, but I don't want to get a lame response, like....NONE.

Let me know what you think and if anyone has ideas for this...SHOOT.

I.E. I can post on here a list of a few good social spots in my area for the DGN caretakers to review and maybe "they" can check out those places and maybe suggest a meet up. The same with everyone. Like...if someone lives in Warren, do the same. If someone lives in Roseville, do the same....domino effect. Ok I'm done now.

The DGN community sticks to either city club or each others house parties/get togethers. Either no one has any money or they just dont want to try new things. good luck though!

well thats kinda what i was getting at. I have no money either, but i'd post places like backyard get together, this coffee shop here in easy to get to place or dude, there's a free concert goin on here...kinda stuff n' stuff. eh, well, i'll post some idea spots when i can and see what happens.

Good luck, trying to get anyone to do anything aside from City Club on a Saturday night! Many have tried, and none have succeeded.

I sincerely believe that they put cocaine into the bricks of that building. The way everyone flocks to it like lemmings each weekend, you'd think they were giving a million dollars away. In fact, it's quite the opposite-- one can easily spend 50 bucks on 6 or 7 drinks. Hell, I could buy the entire gang two or three rounds for that, at a dive bar in the suburbs.

I agree with DJ Nocker, though. Perhaps DGN people are just afraid to try anything new (especially out of the downtown area), even if it would mean a more interesting, less-predictable, and less-expensive evening.

Not knocking the club, or anything...I know a lot of people have much love for the place, and are loyal patrons, due to their good memories and long association with the venue. Understandable, but it is my nature to question motives.

I have to say, though (and perhaps I will get a bunch of angry responses for speaking my mind about the popular custom of going to CC), that the LLC is a gold mine..and it's about as well-kept as a coal mine. Look at the condition of the building, then do the guesstimated math for the "take" each weekend, and you'll get what I mean. For the love of the gods-- clean the place up a bit, put in a decent ventilation system, some air conditioning, and hire some restroom attendants! The owner could easily AFFORD it.

my 2 cents:

the Plymouth Coffee Bean's a pretty cool place to hang; I can recommend it to all DGN westsiders.

Various things do occur outside of the club. It wasn't that long ago that MANFAST! happened, DGN day at Ren Fest, I've seen the stitch-n-bitch, I think I remember a sushi night going on...

City Club I think is easy for most though. Costs next to nothing to get in the door, not everyone drinks, Saturday is a good night to go out for many people, if it doesn't click with someone you can vanish in the crowd, no arrival time/departure time set in stone...it is just easy to accomplish there.

If someone wants to try to put something together, I say go for it! Want to make it an "official" DGN event? Get with a mod.

What exactly is a DGN Event, and how can I make my event an "Official DGN Event? *I pretty much re-wrote this whole section. Why? Because I know if confused a lot of people and even offended some. I really didn't understand the point of this section myself until I exchanged a few PMs with Phee about it. I re-wrote it trying to make it more palatable and less defensive sounding. If you think I totally missed the mark, by all means, don't use my version.*

1. An "Official DGN Event" is a pre-planned event for DGN members that is supported and promoted by the DGN staff.

2. At least one moderator, or Troy, should promise to be present for an official DGN event.

3. Before posting the final details of an event, such as time, date, and location, please get them approved by a moderator, or Troy, via PM, phone call, or e-mail. Make sure your final post containing the event details is clear and complete. Initial "feeler-out" posts to help establish time, date, and location are okay.

4. "Official DGN Events" should be planned AT LEAST two weeks ahead of time. A month or more is preferred. This is to allow adequate time to plan and promote. We try to avoid having more than one DGN event, aside from DGN Saturdays at City Club, per month. We do not want more than two such events per month.

Please contact a moderator with any idea you have for an event that you would like to have made an "Official DGN event."

On your point though....it could most certainly be cleaned up a bit. I mainly go there because it's where most of my friends are. And I'm someone who loves being around his friends

ok so i got 2 thumbs up's for the plymouth coffee bean. here, off the record...lol. I'm going to set up only ONE night meet up for the plymouth coffee bean and see what happens. and i won't interfere with the CC dungeon on saturdays. One of the reasons i moved back to MI was because of CC....OK??!!! ok.

its just a pain in the arse to get to from here...dats all.
