Tea-cup Pigs...new fad in the UK

Recommended Posts

Hmm... doesn't say how big they actually get... and yeah I'm sure GRG would have a few choice words about this!

Gawd the posters on that site sound like a fun bunch... although I agree it's a shame when people get a pet just because it's trendy and they want to be the first one in their subdivision to get one. Especially since these types tend to do minimal if any research on just what will be involved in keeping this pet... hence the vast numbers of poorly-socialized, sickly iguanas in need of homes.

Here's the thing: pigs bred to be tiny have one issue: their innerds are still going to grow to the size of a normal size pig.... so they only live about 5-10 years, vs 15-20 years.. for $1000, I would want an animal to live a little longer than 5 years..

and tiny or not... pigs have the IQ of a 3 year old human child.. that's raising a 3 year old for years on end.. if you don't have the time to devote up to 18 hours a day of your life to training and disciplining them, you cannot get one... they are a three year old child with one thing on their minds the entire time they are alive "can i eat it" and will spend most of their days figuring it out, simply by eating it... yeah, its not fun to have to call your room mate over to pull a plastic bag out of a pigs butt... you do NOT want a pig.. EVER! they will turn from cute to little monsters when they eat your favorite article of clothing.. pigs are cute to look at.... that's about it....

...I second this post...I lived with a pig for about half a year (at Autie's Haus)...they are NOT as smart as a dog...not in the least bit cuddly (they have bristly hair, if you want some bristly hugs, get me about 2 days after a shave...PIGS, are for EATING!
