Simon Bar Sinister
sooooo...in a desperate scramble to rake in every last cent into the state's coffers, 2 changes have been proposed: extending cutoff time for selling alcohol in bars from 2 AM to 4 AM. bars would need an additional permit to do this, which would cost $1,500/year. also, Sunday alcohol sales would be moved forward from their current noon to 7 AM. there seems to be no one opposed to the 2nd half of the proposal, but there are plenty of legislators opposed to the 1st part. unfortunately, this is before the state House as one bill and not two. thoughts? Rev.Reverence
...like alcohol is not readily available enough? .....& there are PLENTY of drunk drivers already...now, they want REALLY TIRED DRUNK DRIVERS? candyman
Its better than the plan here in Wisconsin...checkpoints on every major road. Even if you are not over the legal limit the traffic is going to be horrible! And I always thought that bars were open until 3 AM over there? Or was it just because I was in a college town? Tacohitts
But there will be no check points for walking trashed, not much they can do with someone blitzed walking along a road.(sarcasm)

candyman
But there will be no check points for walking trashed, not much they can do with someone blitzed walking along a road.(sarcasm) Yeah they already have checkpoints for that. I didn't mention their plan to expand police forces, both in the number of cops and vehicles. So are tax dollars are going to pay for more cops that will crack down on this. I have been stopped many times by the cops on foot...but with me holding myself to only three beers a night or two white russians I don't get in trouble. I have almost run over people that have confused the road at the sidewalk or a place to sleep though.
jynxxxedangel
No complaints, here. I wonder how much more the bars' liability insurance will go up, though.

n0Mad
Heck, I'm ready to call it quits by 11pm. I can't imagine a bar staying open 'til 4. I'm all for earlier Sunday sales but I don't think stores should have to buy a permit for that; I think it should just be. All the other 6 days are fine, why single out Sunday for restrictions? Sounds like a law based on religion to me and that's unconstitutional.

KatRN05
I really don't see a lot of places shelling out $1,500/year just to stay open til 4am.

creatureofthenyte
Pretty sure this is legislative action.... Okay... Legislative action, that would boost economic capitol through other means; Like a tax cut on businesses, so they could Hire People... would be a far greater boon to your state's economy, then further enabling drunk driving would be, IMO... There won't be any additional permits needed for that, just for the later bar hours.

Slogo
We still need a real governor..Jenny is a dumb fuck. Was she elected by the majority of the population? check Was she inaugurated? check Last time I checked that makes her governor. Not an imaginary one but a real one. I didn't vote for her (or DeVos for that matter) but I'm smart enough to know reality.

KatRN05
We still need a real governor..Jenny is a dumb fuck. I'm just glad it's not election time so I don't have to hear those stupid commericals with her saying "In five years, you're gonna be blown away...". Granholm is an idiot. She hasn't done much for the state except continually fuck it up and tax, tax, tax.
