potential changes in Michigan's liquor laws

Recommended Posts

I really don't see a lot of places shelling out $1,500/year just to stay open til 4am.

...you never counted a till...think with me...there are 52 weeks in a year...two hours a night, that's 730 hours of extra selling time...even if they only make $100 an hour (club level low call)...or even $50 (corner bar low call) that's $3650 to $7300...at the LOW END of business...

Okay...

Legislative action, that would boost economic capitol through other means; Like a tax cut on businesses, so they could Hire People... would be a far greater boon to your state's economy, then further enabling drunk driving would be, IMO...

..not enough man hours increase to need more peoples...I don't see how there will be a tax cut...I don't get it with these tax cuts for businesses that the right thinks will make more jobs, the owners use that $ for vacation, anywhere I've been privy to the books...

Well perhaps the legislation should say the tax cut comes on the condition that the revenue be used for job creation, with stiff penalties if any business violates the condition.

This liquor legislation, is just a drop in the bucket.

If this legislation fails to generate meaningful revenue, your governor and state legislature may raise taxes on companies & individuals even higher still to bridge the gap.

IMO, if that happens, more companies will lay off workers and move out of state, and then pretty soon after, Everyone in Michigan will be bankrupt.

Yeah Jenny's super sneaky plan: make everyone drunk and tax them into the poorhouse before they sober up and realize what's happening.

...but, most of us CAME from the poor house, we got out durring, or near the end of Clinton's term...& THEY ('cause I don't think we believe the THEY are the same exact THEYs.) smacked us, & a bunch of heretofore middle-classes back into the destitution line. :hrhr::rofl:

(I laugh, so I don't cry.)

I can see a few of the higher volume places doing it. Consider that a small club (120+ attendance,) can make on average of $1500 from drinks a night from 9pm to 2am (6 hours, average of $250/hr intake,) a larger club can more than make up for the year's fee in a night. Even the smaller one above (about the size/drink till intake of the one I used to help with in DC,) if averages hold, could pay for the annual fee in 3 weeks if last call is moved from 2am to 4am for one night a week.

City I would estimate would probably make that up in a night, maybe 2, very easily.
