LadyKay
People have complain that a suicide scene a at haunted house display is to disturbing and in in poor taste. Forgive me if I am wrong but I always thought that haunted house displays at Halloween time were suppose to be disturbing and frighting. I don't get people, I really don't. If this sort of thing upset someone then my advice is do not go. Read Story Here Edited October 14, 2009 by LadyKay

jynxxxedangel
There are also several news stories every Hallowe'en, regarding people who are upset by "hanging dummies." Here are some examples: New Jersey family removes Halloween hanged dummy after public outcry Georgia couple defends decision to hang dummies with nooses on Halloween Now, I don't know about you all, but the "hanging dummy in a tree" is customary; it's cheap (easily made with old clothes and leaves), and it's effectively spooky. My advice is-- make damn sure that all of your Hallowe'en "leaf dummies" are visibly Caucasian, or they're going to be seen as a racial insult. It's a terrible by-product of Women's Rights where the IRRATIONAL beliefs that women have that their children are delicate flowers and cannot be exposed to life makes it into legislature. It's caused by incessant nagging so finally the public gives in to shut these cunts the fuck up, in turn, violating our rights. Onyx
Humans are convincing me more & more that they are even more stupid than I can even imagine. Yeah, no kidding. Good grief. Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe ~ Albert Einstein ======== My kids always loved scary stuff (still do really). If they are too young to understand it's supposed to be pretend then don't be stupid enough to take them to see it. Where is common sense these days? StormKnight (1)
I just keep thinking most of these sensitive people, who more than likely are of one of the three major Western religions, would more than likely freak out at the fact this is a Celtic (i.e. Pagan, i.e. Satanists in the uninformed eyes,) holiday. I can see Western religious extremists going to the point of banning the celebration themselves. Edited October 15, 2009 by StormKnight

taysteewonderbunny
What do cows have to do with soccer moms? Oh thank you! I didn't want to be the only one to utter it. I agree, though, that we are too quick to censor some things. Sure, it's tasteless. It's also terrifying. So are the murders and mutilations depicted in haunted houses. That's the point of the whole thing. We get an adrenaline rush, feel exhilarated, and the less gory stuff that still gets us wound up every day seems more tame and manageable. It's the safe way of testing our limits. Those of us who feel traumatized by such depictions because of unresolved emotions from past events SHOULD avoid it; but don't force such a proscription on every one else. Too soon do we project our personal emotional reactions as having some objective basis. I don't doubt that woman feels strongly about this, but how can she be so sure it will have the effect she proclaims? Maybe someone for whom suicide was a recurring fantasy will be put off by the gruesome scene and seek another outlet instead, like joining DGN. Yays. jynxxxedangel
A DGN haunted house to raise funds would be a BLAST. There are enough of us who are talented (and also enough of us who own the appropriate makeup, clothing, and props) in this group, that we could probably pull it off. Finding a location would be the hardest part, as well as getting the proper license (if applicable). P.S. Has anyone else ever thought of producing a short film, to promote the site? jynxxxedangel
SERIOUSLY ANYONE WANTS TO COLLABORATE I'M ALL IN!!!!!! (caps for excitedness) Let's ask Troy what he thinks. Then we could start putting together a group project. This could be really fun! YouTube would be the perfect place to host it. We'd be able to toss the link up wherever (MySpace, LiveJournal, Facebook, etc.), and totally pimp DGN!

I wouldn't necessarily believe it's a result of "Angry Soccer Mom Syndrome" though. I'd place it more firmly within the hands of these complete IDIOTS who are all too happy to subscribe to the belief system espoused by these brainless idiots called "Evangelical Christians". They see something they don't like, they start shouting until everyone complies with their often ridiculous demands just to shut them up. That is why there's still faith-based initiatives and funding for faith-based institutions in existence...just to satisfy these people (I honestly view them as perpetually unhappy cry babies). Before you know it, we'll be stuck right in the middle of a theocracy styled on medieval Europe.
TitsMcGee
I'm probably going to get shit for this but oh well. As someone who has had to clean up after a suicide, I find it horrible that someone would put it in a haunted house. I mean if it was just the "dead" body with the gun next to it that wouldn't bother me much, but the video showed the guy was actually "shooting" himself in from of people and that's what I have an issue with. But since they are labeled as an "extreme" haunted house it's enter at your own risk because it will be worse than other ones. I do believe there should be an age requirement on the establishment though, and parents also need to do their homework on a place before they take their kids to it. I also think the fake "slashed wrists" latex things at Halloween are distasteful too, but again just my opinion.
