THIS is why you pass on the left but otherwise stay the f**k to the right...

Recommended Posts

K, the video titling is misleading. Says "160 mph," but if you look closely, the car has TWO speedometers (and no tachometer, wtf?): one in miles, at right, and the other in kilometers, at left. The car was going 50 mph when it was passed. Or so it appeared to me. Crotch rockets did at least 100 mph by me most nights this summer on 696 and in heavily traversed construction zones. And, yeah, I stay to the rightmost lane where prudent. But related video from INSIDE the Ferrari 512 TR shows it making speeds of 320 kph. Woohoo!

There's a couple of things, though, that I REALLY wish would catch on in the D that was prevalent everywhere in the South: 1) maintain a three-second distance from the vehicle in front of you--you need that space to stop, but also, it's a buffer zone that will help prevent the brake-wave cycle wherein the front car slows and each successive car must brake more radically causing vehicles to come to a full stop on the freeway. 2) SIGNAL YOUR INTENTION BEFORE YOU MOVE. 3) If the sign says the lane closes, get the fuck out of it as soon as you safely can. Don't ride up in it right to the end. You slow EVERYBODY down, mfer. Think ZIPPER instead of funnel. First a tooth on one side, then a tooth on the other. And let a car in front of you (another reason to maintain the three-second distance). Altogether, it's MUCH faster, smoother, and less frustrating. kthnxbai

Tach on the right, speedo on the left. Camera car is doing 150km/h which is about 95mph. The Corvette is going WAY faster then that. I'm thinking 145-150... Maybe more...

And yeah... There's a lot of things that need to get pounded into drivers heads when they are taught. But schools here pretty much suck, so no mystery there. Plus everyone in this country thinks it's OK to do whatever they want behind the wheel (Yes I'm exaggerating, but not by a lot...)

I was with my brother and my dad on the way back from Mexico one summer when, somewhere in Kentucky on I-71, a Corvette passed us somewhere well above 100 mph (we were doing about 75). About 5 or 6 seconds later, a Pantera went by us so fast that I can't even estimate its speed. The freeway went into a wide curve to the right and, when we came out of it, the 'Vette was reaching the top of the upward slope that we were just getting to. The Pantera was nowhere in sight.

Mmmm...Pantera...rare sight and you can't blink if you do see one. Having the chance to rotate the tires on one almost made me pass out.

Oh and if you go that fast over here in the states people WILL move over. I was going 95 all the way from Milwaukee to the St. Paul and they parted when I approached. I should really not have done that but...well it is my firm belief that if we changed the laws and regulation to be like those in Europe everything would be much more smooth...oh but we would also have to take care of our roadways MUCH better than we do now.

slightly off-topic, but if you leave three seconds of space between you & the next car, you'll soon have 3-4 cars pulling in front of you to fill the gap. shit, i've had maybe a 1-second gap before & had assholes cut in! :X

Try being a truck like me and trying to leave a space between me and the vehicle in front. Everyone seems to think that its an open invitation to invade my safe space. Marc is right though, not enough is taught in schools and I think some deadly results should be shown to shock the new drivers into submission. I have always said that little displays on the screen at the Secretary of State are not enough to teach people about being around trucks. I plan on someday going to the local school here in Howell and seeing about bringing my truck down to show new drivers what a trucker sees in his mirrors and how far it takes to stop that truck. Hands-on experience is one of the greatest things to have.

Too many people (assholes) think that they can drive however they want, and do what ever they want while driving, even drive stupid, well there are laws about on that its called "reckless Driving"its always nice when the stupid driver(asshole) is the only one and no one else that gets smashed to nothing for being stupid, one less idiot on the road.

Not nearly good enough schooling... And people with fucked up attitudes. I know people who DELIBERATELY don't use their signals so people won't know what they're up to. Think of the people that cut you off then get pissed when you honk. All of them should be made to take public transportation for life. :X

Its all about money in this state, thanks to Granmole, someone 89 yrs old with severe cataracts is allowed to drive, someone with an ego thinking laws do not apply to them are always allowed to keep driving, its all about money in this state.but when some asshole gets smashed into an accordion for driving stupid and ignorant I don't care,as long as they are the only one that gets theirs, and no innocent people are hurt, asshole drivers really serve no purpose in life.

You are actually pretty much right. When I speed, in most states, I can hire a lawyer for $200-$300 to talk to the prosecutor and they will lower my ticket to a non-moving violation. It may cost me a little more than the actual fine was originally, but its worth it to keep my CDL offense-free. I have paid at max so far, $500 to lower a 10 over speeding ticket. They would rather take the money and let you take a chance on messing up again.

I can't think of a state that has a driver education and training program that's remotely adequate. We require hair stylists to have more training then drivers do. Something is wrong with this. People would take it seriously if the training was serious. It isn't. It's a joke. It's not Granholm's fault. It's a failure of this whole country to implement something long ago.

When I moved from Florida to Michigan I was shocked that there was no attempt to inform me about the traffic laws here. They just gave me a Michigan license and that was it. I had to ask my neighors what the hell those flashing red lights were about and why people were honking at me when there was a red light. I made sure I found out the second day I was driving, but there are a few things here unique to this state. Michigan lefts were not explained either. Gawd, I mean they should at least give people a book or something.

There was nothing provided or any testing required at all which I think is ridiculous.

We need to do something about getting distractions off the road. It is getting really bad. I may be speeding 100% of the time but I am damn sure to watch everything I do and I don't do anything but touch the wheel when I drive. Also, staying to the right is fine but you should still be doing something close to the speed limit...the right lane is not the "I feel like going really slow" lane because slow drivers are actually the ones that cause problems.

Not only do we need better drivers ed...we need better road systems. Most of the roads we have are old and outdated. Merging in a royal pain in most areas and because of the interchange designs we are making sure the we get as many heavy traffic jams as possible. Lets have some european people come over here to redo our roads and drivers ed programs...they seem to have a better handle on things...and they could show our DOT people what the hell a roundabout really is!

This is why they have been raising commercial traffic speed limits up closer to regular vehicle speeds. The difference in speed has caused a lot of accidents, esp when the truck needed to get over for an emergency vehicle on the shoulder.

in the UK. the driving exam is in 4 parts

driving theory

hazard awareness

vehicle levels checks (got to know how to check your oil, top it up, check the air, check tread depths, water, screen wash, change bulbs and change the wheel)

and the actual practical

after that there's a 6 point cap on the licence

2 speeding tickets or other points and bye bye licence. this goes to the full limit after 2 years, of 12. so 4 tickets and out, or 3 contested certificates (thats right, you dont pay up and it goes to court, that's 4 points per ticket if the judge presiding is nice)

and here we have ANPR (automated number plate recognition) on bridges, signs and on the police cars themselves that check for the three essentials (tax, insurance and roadworthyness certificates) and average speed cameras

these log each time you pass one with your plate number and time

across distances and between multiple cameras.

your average speed exceeds. 3 points, or even if your over just passing one it knows that.

the spot cameras now being installed are infra red. no flash, no excuse for being to dark
