Ideas for a front yard Halloween scene (on a budget)

Recommended Posts

I found out today that her dad is switching weekends with me so I will have my daughter for halloween after all. Yay, but this means I am completely unprepared - she's 12 and wants to set up something in the front yard, maybe dress like a zombie and jump out at kids and yell boo as I give out candy, sing cheesy ghoul songs at them, (one below she wants to use) heh heh.

Ideas? I don't have a big budget, have a few decorations from last year but need to think of a theme. Where can one buy dry ice? That always looks pretty cool in a container when you light it from behind. I'm thinking a vampire for myself, maybe a zombie for her.

It never ceases to amaze me what someone can do using cardboard boxes, some ancient clothing, some fake blood, some store bought rope, and a few select other items. My mom was the king of it.

I am not good at that sort of thing, but my kids are pretty imaginative. I may just buy whatever I can get for my small budget and let them loose and see what they create.

Well...hmmm. I'll see what kind of constructive ideas I can come up with that may be some help if you want to pitch in with them or something. I did learn from the best about how to decorate sooo...yeah.

You can do what my parents' neighbors did, stick a pair of hedge clippers in the ground and have arms and legs sticking out of the ground...

Thanks! I have a giant pair of hedge clippers that would be great for that.

Don't forget ghosts!!!

- You can always take balloons, an old white sheet, and some string, and hang them from the trees. Maybe put scary faces on them.

- Make a scarecrow out of some old clothes you don't wear anymore, stuff them with leaves or newspaper.

- You could also rake up some leaves into rectangles and make it look somewhat like a freshly dug grave (with your gravestones).

- Spider webbing is always cheap.
