Make-up heeeeelp!

Okay.

I'm very...inexperienced when it comes to make-up. The most I wear is black eyeliner and black mascara. Rarely I'll wear lipgloss or even electric blue eyeshadow.

I'm jealous of make-up I've seen on others...in pictures or person.

I was wondering...would anyone want to tutor me?

I don't even know what would look good with my eyes...or what would look good, period.

Its rather sad.

Aww, you're not a loser!

The best way to learn is to experiment! Ask others for tips, but simple trial and error is really the best way to know what looks good on you.

Your eye color, hair color and skin coloring help determine what shades work best for you. When I change my hair color, I have to change what color eye shadow and lipstick/gloss I use. Those colors also change when I'm pale or very tan. Because of that, I have nearly every color of eye shadow imaginable, and many different lipstick/gloss colors.

I'm right with you. I SUCK at picking out make-up colors. Thats why I don't really wear anything besided eyeliner and mascara and sometimes eyeshadow. But usually eyeshadow shades aren't the problem, it's the stuff like foundation, blush and lipstick that will look horrible if you don't get the right shade. Eyeshadow doesn't matter that much...at least not to me...but then again it all depends on what you're going for. Natural look? Going out look? Theatrical look? Just play around...thats what I do....and sometimes it works out horribly sometimes I find I like it. Thats all you can do. If you plan on wearing foundation, blush, lipstick and stuff like that you might wanna go to the makeup counter and ask for some help in picking shades. I don't wear that stuff so I don't worry about it. If I DO wear lipstick...it never really looks that bad and you can always tone down the shade of lipstick if it doesn't look right by just blottingand putting some gloss over it. Hope my clueless tips help. Lol

Eevee - PM Brenda for advice. She's in my Facebook friends too. I'm sure she'd add you if she knows you from here.

Even though I don't know shit about makeup, I do know that it would be a good idea to come up with ONE surefire combination of lipstick, eyeshadow, etc. rather than worrying about a bunch of variations. Deal with that later. That way you don't feel overwhelmed. It's a good way to approach any task that seems daunting at first.

Next time I shoot Andi (When her back piece is done) I want you to come too. I'll get my friend Melody to do both your makeup. She's amazing, and you can ask her questions about it and maybe pick up a few good tips.

here's a tip that my mom taught me:

take your less dominant hand, and take your foundation and rub in a dab on the line of your hand, at the thumb. I'm talking the space where the top of your hand meets the inside of your hand, near the wrist. the reason being, is usually, the color of this skin is really close to the color of your face. (I dunno why, but its usually true for white and fair skin individuals.. not always, but usually)

if it blends in, then you can use it... if it doesn't match, sometimes its either a shade lighter or darker...

mom told me that its better to do this, than to put it on your face. I dunno why. But it works.. its also a good way to blend foundations, if you have more than one color.... always on the hand first, then the face lol

anyways...

YouTube is awesome for makeup tutorials... if you look at my page on there (same as my DGN name) I have subscribed/favorited quite a few. I love watching them, and most are professionals, they give great tips on skin care as well as actual makeup tutorials. and remember: for everyday wear, more is not always better. :) also, people wear darker shades at night, because they are easier to see.. during the day, or a brightly lit environment calls for lighter shades. I usually do outlandish colors on myself, but if you aren't into that, you want to highlight your features, not paint around them LOL :)

Here's my makeup tip: don't. I'm not overly a fan of makeup and think most people look better without it.

I'm in the minority. I look sooooooo much better with make up. I get the most compliments when I do my makeup for CC. Granted, that is not suitable for the day time, but still, I think that is my best look.

Holy crap...thanks for all the advice. I've tried watching tutorials but I'm still just like...whaaaat?

The only thing I took from them was to put eyeliner on the inner of your upper eyelid as well as on the upper eyelid and inside of the lower.

Oh, and thanks Mstrbeau for the offer for the photoshoot!

Hopefully my hair wont be faded at the time.

:X

I agree that you have to play around. I personally think books and magazines are better for tutorials than videos/youtube (What are you going to do, bring your computer in the bathroom with you?) but maybe that's just me.

For eyeshadow colors: some say to put it on the inside of your wrist to see if it looks god with your skin tone, but, really, if you blend them right, most people can wear most colors. For a day time look, stick with neutrals like brown, gold and gray. For evening, you can wear anything that looks good with your coloring and outfit.

For foundation, blush and lipstick: you just have to try them until you find colors that work for you.

Thank you, once again, for all of the advice. I'll have to get up some courage to at least try it out, I suppose.

To Mstrbeau, yes...I suppose.

By then I may have blue and purple hair, though.

Actually, some of my hair already changing to purple...so odd.

Ha... Hair does strange things when colored. My daughter Kyra's refuses to go back to it's natural brown after her hair got dyed pink this summer, It's more blonde now.. *shrug*

We can do something soon if you want just the blue. The blue/purple will be fun too...

How about you do some now with the blue, and some later with blue/purple. Then you get a double dose of Eevee!

On the other hand, that means she gets a double dose of you.

    • ~~~~~ Yeah, thank you for the check-in.   Happy to say it was all a misunderstanding.  But she pulled out her "ghetto" and that's when things went South.  I get very professional minded when I enter into situations like that because when someone starts bring the court into conversations, I'm in court 2 times a year, every year, so don't go there with me because I will get legal all over you.   She did try to change what she thought she might have said, but I had to call her on it because it's all in written text.  Then she apologized and we were able to have a decent conversation.   I know I joke about me talking so much that people don't hear what I say except for keywords that they are looking for, but that is exactly what happened here.  She heard "payment", "money" and "help out".  It was crazy.  I literally had to have the entire conversation all over again, but I definitely condensed it to only address those 3 words.   Things are back on track, but I emphasized that if she every needed clarification for anything, please say something first instead of jumping to conclusions, then questioning that conclusion, then answering that conclusion, then getting upset at the answer and taking it out on someone who doesn't have a clue what the San Juan Hill just happened.   But this is exactly the reason I do everything with a paper trail.

    • I'm glad  that yesterday's day at work is long gone now. There was a very strong unusual energy that I felt, and couldn't get done with the day fast enough. It wasn't  the job at all. I just felt like I really needed to keep my mouth shut, to keep me from getting in situation(s) that probably wouldn't have ended well for me.
