Newborn rescued from Garden City trash bin

Recommended Posts

Well, isn't that something. Persucute the mother, sure, I think she SHOULD be punished in some way, but not severely. I say, give her a week or two in county for child abandonment but, then, send her to a councelling center. She, herself, needs help dealng with a family that she has to be afraid to bring a baby home to. If she had to do something this drastic, c'mon, she's barely out of being a kid herself. I, for one, don't blame her... I blame her parents. What kind of parents strike THAT much fear in their child that she'd rather take the chance that the baby dies and she's charged with murder than face them with a newborn? How'd she hide it for nine months in the first place? Give her a slap on the wrist and have the entire family get some sort of help so this doesn't happen again.

Sad for the baby. The mom I have not one ounce of sympathy for. Michigan is a safe haven state, she could have took the baby to any police department, not the fucking trash bin. Charges should be filed against her.

Not everyone knows about the safe haven thing, especially a woman barely out of her teens. It's not something they teach in school. Hell, I didn't even know about it till tonight.

The mother is an adult. Scared or not, she should have owned up to her responsibility and it's not an excuse to dump a baby like a piece of trash. Had those kids not heard the baby cry, the baby would have died from exposure or being dumped into a garbage truck and smashed together with all the other trash. She doesn't deserve that baby.

Wow ... you just don't expect to hear about things like this from your hometown. I grew up in Garden City.

The mother is 22, says the article. I'm sorry ... there is something wrong with her if she couldn't tell her family. She needs help. BADLY.

I was 18 when I got pregnant with my oldest daughter. I had parents who wouldn't approve, etc. But I told them anyway. They didn't like it ... (come to think of it, they haven't been happy with any of my four kids, they've never been very supportive to me, with an exception of now) ... but it was my decision to have my children, not my family's decision.

Dealing with the consequences of your actions comes to mind ... there's several alternatives here in the situation and she never acted on any of them.

Seriously?? Blame the parents? I am so sick of hearing people say this.... We all have choises to make in our lives it is up to the person to make the right decision.... What my dad beat me, I was molested and raped, Does that give me an excuse too to do what I please? No!

Im not saying she needs the max they can give her, but you play you pay... its time people own up to their own mistakes and stop blaming others.

I agree. Unless this 22 year old adult woman was mentally handicapped in some way, and was not capable of making an adult decision, she absolutely needs to pay for what she's done. I'd say abandonment, and an attempt to commit murder at the very least. AND there's no way in this universe that she should EVER be allowed to have that child back. What pisses me off, on top of everything else about this, is that somewhere down the line she probably will be given back her parental rights. I don't think she should ever be trusted with this child again unless supervised......and even this would make me feel uncomfortable.

I don't understand...If this woman was 22 years old and didn't want to raise a child or bring it home to her family, why didn't she just have an abortion? Whether you agree with abortion or not, it's more humane than dumping a baby in a bag in a dumpster. This is the kind of thing scared, pregnant 13 year olds do, not grown women.

is it sad that this doesn't surprise me? well, actually, I think the saddest part is that I'm surprised someone stopped to help the baby, and that they were young kids. Kudos to the ones that found the child. I hope the mother is prosecuted....

...not surprised on either count Doll...the youth, they really want attention now a days.....

I agree...

...no jail will help her...she needs fuckin' therapy!

...anyone does that could contemplate such a mis-action...
