Stymie
Fucking country.......... 100% everything about it. You soulless fuckers!! Fucking hate "rock-o-billy term".... I think of some dumb ass hillbillies.... Trying to play rock-n-roll or punk rock... Two of the terms I hate most... 1: Emo...(emotional...) GOD... Fucking fart suckers... All music is emo... Get a fucking clue... 2: RnB... (rhythm and blues...) Over used and most wrongly classed term ever... 80% of the RnB "Is Not..." There is no Blues in it... So how can it be... Lets over class everything! Chopping things up into diff sub groups does not make it one... Only the true example... Of how fucking dumb-cattle most ppl are... Soon enough... Everyone jumps on for that ride! It is all dumb.... Just like this post!

BloodCupcake
I just don't like people who pick on people for what they listen to in a serious way. I hate that more than when people mess up their genres. I think everything is too categorized and bands are combining genres and taking genres and doing different stuff to them, so it becomes hard to categorize and ultimately becomes a new genre. I listen to everything from Fall Out Boy to Bring Me The Horizon to All Time Low (saw them yesterday, hehe) to Combichrist to The Rockett Summer to We Came With Broken Teeth. And no, all music is not emo....emo is a legitimate genre. I know Fall Out Boy isn't emo and half the bands on Warped Tour aren't REALLY emo if you're talking about the older style of emo but there are bands who DO fall into that genre. Categorizing music into sub of sub of sub of sub genres is just too hard.
Stymie
All music is emo (emotional...) {[("All")]}!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is a simple fact... It (music) carries some form of emotion. Be sad, happy, just down right pissed off to whatever! Music is art. Art is what again??? Subjective... And this my subjectiveness to it and it's classification. Fact... All art is emo... And if anyone really doesn't think so... You really need to take a art class or something. Combining genres been happening since the time of dawn. From birds and other animals making sounds, to humans following. 1st blues ppl say, rock-n-roll steal'n our stuff... No they added diff things to it. From diff emotions to cords. I'll use techno and house as a better example. Just cuz one has less or more.(HEYS or other odd sounds, again example...) Really need two diff names... Come on do be dumb... KatRN05, you brang one up I forgot about... It isn't ska really. But... Punk-Ska..... Really... PPL need to learn what punk is and ska is Before saying this. Punk-Ska = no such thing.... BloodCupcake, Do you think I am picking on ppl? Cuz I read your post and can take it a few diff ways. He might be referring to the current use of the term "RnB" - no sure, myself, how that came to be applied to current artists who are hardly "rhythm & blues". For me it was always folks like Little Richard, Esquerita, Bunker Hill, Lord Luther, Ike Turner, Wynonna Carr, Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Big Mama Thorton, etc.

Joey Deadcat
That pretty much goes for a lot of terms once they gain some exposure. Business as usual, I guess.
pomba gira
OK... now I am thinking about the "new wave does not exist" rant from The Decline of Western Civilization. What the hell was that guy's name? I think he was the owner of the Masque. This is going to drive me crazy till I remember. (said in lush drippy French accent): "There is no such thing as new wave. It does not exist. It was a figment of some lame cunt's imagination. It was the polite thing to say when you were trying to say you weren't into the boring rock & roll, but you didn't want to say punk 'cos they would kick you out of the fucking party and they wouldn't give you coke anymore". Simon Bar Sinister
can't help with the Masque's owner (loved that film), but the "lame cunt" was either Seymour Stein (the man who signed Blondie and the Ramones) or someone who worked for him. torn asunder
this thread honestly irritates me a bit - if you don't label/classify music to some extent how do you ever discuss it? i mean, sonmeone asks you what style of music a band is and you say "i don't categorize musicians by label, so i can't/won't answer you"!? i mean, c'mon... you want to talk about a new band, you need something to offer by way of comparison so that people will know in which direction the music lies. genres, subgenres, are necessary, otherwise you end up with this... "so i heard this great band last night!" "yeah? what do they sound like?" "ever heard 'chilled monkey's brians'?" "nope..." "how about 'the ugly dionysus'?" "nope..." "how about 'your mother's combat boots'?" "nope..." "how about 'over the enders' maw'?" "nope..." "how about 'primal estrangement'?" "nope..." "how about ..." Let it f#cking irritate you! You clearly do not get this thread. It is a ranty or rant. About dumb over labeling to a silly level and ones you do not like. I never said there should be no labels at all. Did I? NO! So roll them eyes at that! Going on and using wrong ones. Is dumb... So someone seems like they know what they are talking about. Just because someone adds a twist to it (a diff name) To something doesn't mean they do or don't know about. And making up subs of a sub, of a subs.... This can go on forever. And clearly slowly is. And is not needed to that level... Soon enough. It be called one thing and it really just swing back to the starting label. But cuz someone has to "BE" diff. And a lot of ppl are dumb and follow what others do. It sticks.... Even though it is the same damn thing as it started out to be...
