High speed chases

Back in my day cops didn't do this for fear of hurting the innocent. Do you think they should only persue if its for a violent crime?

do you think taking a risk on killing someone or crippling them for life is justified by cops when chasing someone who robbed a dollar store?

There are better ways to stop speeding criminals than chasing them until they hit something. Also, they already tossed out the safety aspect so as long as the cops are doing their jobs I don't really think the increase in risk to pedestrians is really that great.

I don't see why they waste the time and money on high speed chases in our country anymore. Even the us army won't go after you if you go AWOL ( and yes they will tell you this) they will just let you go. You'll turn up in the system eventually. They need to do this in more situations because a warrant doesn't cost money but it sure costs a lot in high speed chases that end in injury, destruction of property, and even death.

In almost all cases I've heard of, the person being pursued isn't THAT great a danger to the community... it's usually some dumbass who gets pulled over and freaks 'cos they have a warrant for some stupid shit. If the person is not a clear and immediate danger to anyone, I can't see where it's justifiable to chase them and thereby endangering anyone who happens to get in the way.

Do we have the results to compare crime statistics of a country that does not have high speed chases? I think it at least has an intimidation factor for criminals. I dunno, I don't have enough knowledge on this one.
