What event was it?

It's a new weekly Thursday thing on the Alley Deck @ The Magic Stick.

Jeff, who used to manage the 2500, bartends while Michelle (another 2500 alumni) plays a mix of 70s glam/77 punk/rockabilly/new wave/trash/garage/etc - Deadcat rock n' roll heaven, basically. :)

Joy Division, Bauhaus, Siouxsie, and Christian Death were also thrown in to give it just a smidgen of dark grooves.

I call BS on several of those tracks, Namely "Butterfly Dance" by "Diary of Dreams". Saint used to try to play it at CC and it would clear the entire floor.

*irritated*

My opinion of music rarely jives with the majority.

What I want to hear is rarely what people want to dance to.

But you have good taste in music regardless. I'd be happy to try "Butterfly Dance" again sometime... maybe the crowd just wasn;t ready for it when it was new

The one time I DJed at City Club, I played that Diary of Dreams track and from what I could tell, it did OK. But that was at 3 AM ;)

I would love to hear it more often. Either that or "O'Brother Sleep", or "The Curse", or "Chemicals", or "She", or "AmOK", or *name about 30 other DOD tracks here*

Been going to CC for a long time. Have seen the ups and downs. Have seen styles and music change. I have some suggestions.

For the love of....keep the 10-15 year old music to a minimum. How are you going to attract a new young crowd playing a lot of old music from some bands that don't even exist anymore?

Would love to see the music be opened up beyond the standard Industrial/ heavy noize stuff. Some of that noize stuff is just not danceable. A song can be TOO fast to be danceable. 4/4 at 140 bpm with distorted screaming vocals = not danceable. A song under 100 bpm that has a groove can often pack a floor better than an angry 4/4 screaming vocal Industrial or noize track.

Would love to see a more interactive approach to dj'ing. Make it more of a performance. Drop in some live samples, effects... Change up the whole approach to how the music is mixed and presented. A lot of times I just see the dj's hanging out talking to people in between songs. Fade out..cue up next song and go back to socializing.

Use the strobe light and other lights more to help create an atmosphere. I know this is an old bit but if the sound system is worse than a frat party in someones basement, no matter what you play, it's going to be very difficult getting people into it.

There have been several nights in the past 6 months where people were actually saying that the music and sound system was better at the bar!!

You can't have that happen.

CC hasn't had a real identity for years. It's no longer the place to go because it offers something truly unique that has grabbed the attention of a whole scene. Time to get an identity back.

Who said they wanted a YOUNGER crowd? Pssh

Oh the record, I am young and enjoy a lot of the older music.

As for the strobes...I actually don't really enjoy it so much. It was cool at first but now it just makes me afraid I'll trip over my feet.

Not really trolling. Just giving an opinion of someone who has been going to CC since the mid to late 90's. I stopped going for the music long ago. Nowadays when I do show up, it's to hang out with old friends.

It very well could be that they don't care about attracting a younger crowd. By younger I mean 18-25 or so. Sooner or later the 30-somethings stop going to CC on a regular basis. If you don't have a younger crowd to pick up the slack, you can expect a lot of poorly attended nights. Having events in the Ballroom is a good idea. I think that shows some forward thinking.

Maybe the plan for CC is to have it run its course being the same place it has been for so long with no long range plans to keep things going. That's cool.

Speaking as a DJ who just did an event in the ballroom (Thanks again for the opportunity btw). Its not the best idea, because its one huge echo chamber, thus, ruining the majority of the songs.

I didn't stick around in the ballroom much last night but when I was there, I really did like the music that was being played. I was really excited when I heard "Here comes the rain again". I want to hear more stuff like that being played at City Club. Sorry I missed your set.

I don't know who DJ'ed the main dance floor but I was happy to hear Lords of Acid and Depeche Mode (I didn't request it but thanks for playing it). Heard very little Combichrist-ish music.

The music on both dance floors was great, Im just saying that do to the structure of the Ballroom, it makes the music sound not so great. (BTW, nice meeting you)
