Raev
Conversation in the Dec 5th aftermath thread triggered this. So, let's get some civil discussion in it's own thread. Me personally, I rarely ever make a request because my personal tastes don't make for good dancing music. I prefer faster tempo music with a little bit of an aggressive edge - but when it gets played not too many dance to it :(

Raev
To expand on my own personal preferences - Hanzel und Gretyl - Trance Planet Vortex Sepultura - Chaos A.D. (Refuse/Resist remix) Miranda Sex Garden - Peepshow are a couple of personal favs. Notice, I'm stuck in the 90s :D Which, is why I don't really request songs anymore. It's stuff that used to get played a decade ago. Times have changed, tastes have changed.
Joey Deadcat
Doesn't really matter, I guess. Anything I wanted to hear (as far as dark music goes) has been played at Deadline and gets played at Something Cold. As far as my general music tastes, I have Underground As Hell, SPAG events, any night Human Fly spins, and the Garden Bowl for that. It would be cool, though, to hear artists like Blank Dogs, Duchess Says, or automelodi at CC. Occasional playing of older stuff like Fad Gadget, Tuxedomoon, The Normal, or Suicide would be nice surprises as well. Hey, it's all "synthy" and dancey. torn asunder
hey, i had a thought about this - rather than requesting specific songs, what if it was "play something like {this song}"! example: the only band i really know in this genre is VNV nation, and i only have one album (praise the fallen, i think!?). i'd love to find some new music that sounds similar to them, so i say "hey, i really dig 'joy' or 'ascension' by VNV nation - could you play something new, that sounds like those songs?" what do you think? helpful, or not? if not, i'll shut up! Destroit
I agree with Joey Deadcat, almost verbatim. Added: Skinny Puppy, MInistry, Front 242, Throbbing Gristle, Bauhaus, Joy Division, Siouxsie, Eno, Cabaret Voltaire, Neubauten, FLA, etc. I’m tired of hearing: CombiChrist, jockish techno, stuff like Jizzed in my Pants, one ambient trance track that spans for 30 minutes and has no real beat, stuff from the Party Monster soundtrack (I <3 the movie too, but there’s no place for it at CC, like Miss Kitten, Money-Success-Fame-Glamour), Ladytron – Destroy Everything You Touch (is played so much that it’s destroying my love for Ladytron), did I mention CombiCrap kinda stuff? Not big on Assemblage, Covenant, Tektical Sekt, some VNV is very bland. Not huge on neo-EBM/Synth, big on Industrial/EBM/Metal/Electro or any combination thereof. I’d be more descriptive but I’m at work and just taking a 5 minute break.

Eevee
I always request Reptile by NIN, but have yet to hear it at CC. I'll have to think more on what I want to hear, though. I'm usually pleased with the music at CC...aside from when there is too much techno being played on occasion, for my tastes.
EnViOuSPoPpEt
I do like the techno, but it doesn't suit the atmosphere at City Club...

A little over a year ago there was a period of time when Jon Noble was playing Reptile every week. I danced to that like Asians dance to DDR. RIP
I would love to hear some Back and Forth by Dr. Steel or even a tiny bit of Creature Feature, but I do have to agree that there are some songs being played to much, despite love for them. Sometimes I wish that the soundtracks to certain video games could be played....

StormKnight (1)
Sometimes I wish that the soundtracks to certain video games could be played.... ...you are making me want to request songs from Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. "Rise," "Date of Rebirth," or "Inner Universe," by Origa; "Run Rabbit Junk," by Hide; "Velveteen," "I Do," and "Christmas in the Silent Forest," by Ilaria Graziano; "Cyberbird," by Gabriela Robin. A lot of it Yokko Kanno took inspiration from the gothic scene with strong trance and gothic influence. Heard them in a few clubs, and come off well. So I feel some of tracks off a variety of soundtracks are appropriate. As for me, I am a fan of the more melodic and lyrical Old School. Whoever threw out "True Faith," by New Order, and "It's a Sin," by the Pet Shop Boys sent me into geek-gasms when they were played. I would love to have at least one "classic" block in the prime of the night (hey, us old codgers can't keep up to 4am...haha.) I mean, looking over music to where we are now, I see connections from today's gothic music extending all the way back to Iron Butterfly in tones, etc. But then, it could be personal opinion, I have been wrong before. I am concurrence with a lot of Joey Deadcat and Chernobyl said, as well as few additions: E Nomine, especially "Mitternacht" Assemblage 23 Flowers and Machine Razed in Black The Timelords/The KLF, especially "Doctorin' the TARDIS" Within Temptation Voltaire like "Brains" and "When You're Evil" I did notice something interesting. I went through a night's playlist trying to see what I would like to pick up. I was kind of shocked that some of the more popular standard stuff is at least 3-5 years old. While I do like the old stuff, I see the need for new music as well. Regarding new music; I understand the trend towards rhythm heavy tracks and industrial, and inspiration from D&B and raves, and they are a lot of what is in and popular. Being more classically trained in music, melody for me takes precedence in my mind over rhythm, though I do appreciate the occasional reversal of those roles. So I am at a loss to throw out some stuff that is a bit more melodic in nature that is new. I did find myself liking VNV Nation's new one (and still trying to get time to sit down and listen to the full album.) I unfortunately am not in depth in scene music as I once was, so I haven't kept up with changes and new albums/groups. Someone would have to sit me down to a listening session of new stuff to go like/dislike about. But I do recognize the need to put the new music out there. It is just me realizing whether or not I like it.
DJ Saint
Some excellent suggestions popping up in here. (Grabs more Puppy, Neubauten, and a few more 242 disc to stuff into the case.. investigates a few bands unknown to me.) NIN's Reptile saw so MUCH play back in the day... Would anyone miss KMFDM's "Anarchy" if it was never played again? If a tree falls in the woods is KMFDM's Anarchy it's soundtrack? What other over played tracks should be switched out in favor of somethign else? "Asphole" by Pigface could go as could any Wolfsheim in my opinion oh and "Admire the Question" by Out Out. For you old-schoolers, there are plans to do another old school night at some point in 2010 and Void 6 and I would like to do another "Progression night" of newer music sometime soon too. Keep the request/suggestions coming...

Rayne
Hey, I love "Anarchy", Saint!! I would miss it. However ... Constantin
i think they should make friday a permanent old school night at cc and only play music from the first 15 years it was open that is from what i hear from my elders the best years of city when it was cool to be there. e.t.a. also and they need to bring back the pitchers of long island ice tea. Destroit
I'd like to hear that someone took a mop and bucket to the place. Constantin
I'd like to hear that someone took a mop and bucket to the place. or that a tornado came and destroyed the leland and with the insurance money they would build a new hotel and move cc to that castle like building down the street . one can always dream
