KatRN05
No offense to the DJs but who requested Lady Gaga? I need to go cleanse my mind with some Sisters of Mercy... Edited December 20, 2009 by KatRN05
damagedangel
o.O It's funny that people complain about Lady Gaga being played, but the dance floor was still full when it came on and people danced to it. A very loved patron of City Club requested it.. and it got danced to. Sillier crap gets requested..
AstralCrux
Shaolyn – Face Down Please god stop playing that. I was repelled from the dancefloor for most of the night as soon as I heard it. And, I'm usually glued to the hip with the dancefloor. (clearly not literally or I'd have herpaghonasyphilaids.) DJ Saint
Shaolyn "Face Down" 3:41 a quick song whether you love or hate it... There'll be a new Shaolyn track "more bass in all frequencies" on the upcoming Endzeit Bunkertracks Act 5 CD The song was meant to get her attention and a quick introduction for the project (she also plays live keys for Faderhead). Much like Modulates "Skullfuck" and both those songs have worked incredibly well in clubs world-wide. The times/music is changing people... Why's City gotta be so far behind in acceptance of new music? Have a look at playlist from clubs around the country and you'll notice so many varied things. anyways, not to bogart the thread but there's a thread here http://www.detroitgothic.net/index.php?showtopic=31732 for suggestions and constructive criticism of songs. Kudos to both DJ's for the following selections SAM - Ascent Implant - Violence and more!

AstralCrux
If I wanted to hear some plajarized rap I'd go to an appropriate club for that, but I don't. But, who cares? But, I'll be happy to attend like, never. hm...sounds like every other club around the country's playlists.... whoa, dejavu. hm...is this the reason why we're behind in the times? we don't hear this kinda music enough? gee....yeah.....thats it, next week, I'm going to request some Justin Timberlake and Pink. Maybe they'll actually play that new Katie Perry song for me as well. Oh wait, that's right. Bishop shook me last night and reminded me that I was in cityclub, and that shit doesn't belong there. Alright, I give in, she's not that bad. Hell, I'll admit, I even danced to it.. +100 bonus points for open mindedness open minded or drunk? cuz if it was the latter, then I should hang out with her next time, get totally obliterated at the bar, and then you'll never hear me complain about Lady Gaga, or any other pop star music being played at this (maybe it should never be labled this again it seems) goth club ever again. quick, someone turn on the lights. XD srsly though.
TheOsakaKoneko
I was so happy to hear Claire Voyant. And somehow, just my luck, I was off the floor for Apotheosis AGAIN. This time I know why - I was there for Assemblage and Skinny Puppy (I know that song is overplayed and not one of most Puppy fans' favorites, but it is so much fun to dance to), but I left the floor for Manson - he's just not my thing. A shame because then I missed the song I've been requesting for weeks and have now somehow managed to miss twice. D: I suck. I guess I should comment on the hot mess that it seems every discussion of CC music lately becomes...but it's hard for me. I'm honestly at kinda a loss for words... I don't want to be negative, and the negativity and resulting clusterfuck of accusations, condescension (from both sides), harsh words, anger, etc is ruining everything. But yet I feel like...something...I still have to say something. I never expect to like every song. I think I usually come across as very demanding and self-righteous for how much I vocalize my dislike of certain things, but I understand very well that my tastes are not those of everyone, and I never expect to like everything. I like goth music, and City isn't a goth club. It's an industrial club. So I go and know that at least half the songs aren't going to be my favorite genre. I still like many of them, and will dance to some. But I'd rather hear gothier synthpop than industrial. And yet, it doesn't really bother me that they play mostly industrial (I may complain sometimes but I honestly don't mean it in a literal ultra-negative way - it's just that I want to voice my preference for the gothy so the DJs know that there are still people who prefer that rather than just heavy industrial, so they can plan their playlists accordingly). It's an industrial club and industrial music belongs. Combichrist, for example...I hate Combichrist. They are not my style at all. But they belong at City Club. It fits. It's not my style and 99% of the time I won't dance to it, but I understand why it's played. My main gripe with them honestly is the vulgarity - I think you can make industrial music without it - but that's a digression I'll skip for the moment. I know that categorization is bad and we should be openminded for what is and is not goth. I know that Gaga is beloved by a good number of people in the alternative subculture scenes. But her music could never be considered goth at all...I just..I don't think so. So it doesn't belong...it really just doesn't. Same for Jizzed in my Pants, etc. (Digression: Saint, you mentioned that Eldridge was trying to get her to write a song for him. Cool. Awesome. She writes a lot of music for other artists. Presumably she can write music in various styles, and if she writes a good gothy song for Eldridge, and he performs it, and it gets played at City, it will belong - not because it's by the Sisters, but because stylistically it belongs. If Lady Gaga wrote a good gothy song for herself, and performed it, and it fit the style, and got played at City? Cool. Awesome. It belongs stylistically. But Poker Face and Bad Romance are Pure Pop. They are not gothy or industrial at ALL. It could be argued that they aren't bad. Cool. She has a lot of fans. I don't hate her myself - I've watched the Bad Romance video more times than is healthy, albeit mostly to ogle the Alexander McQueen fashion. But it's just not stylistically appropriate for City Club.) I know openmindedness is good, but if we throw categories and styles completely out the window, what will get played next? Actually, this is an interesting question. With Lady Gaga and Lonely Island already played (digression again: is "DJ486 – Sexyback" what I fear it is? I tried to Google it and YouTube it but nothing came up - if it is, this fits in this category as well. And Riku spoke too soon before analyzing the whole playlist.), what's off limits? What can we expect to hear next? 50 Cent and Madonna and Ebichu ManGucci Man? Britney Spears and Miley Cyrus and Jonas Brothers? We've even heard country with the True Blood opening a few weeks ago. Next will be Billy Ray to follow up his daughter? If the club will turn into a free-for-all playing whatever is out there, fine. I can't stop you. But it's a bit sad because right now, City is our place to go to hear goth, industrial, EBM, darkwave, etc. If you want to switch it up, play something great from a new upcoming band, like Saint is always doing (though his choices tend to be more techno/noisey for my tastes). But why stray so very very far from the genre and play pop? Why not play some new band we might really get into? I'd list some examples, but I honestly don't really know where to go to find new artists to listen to. I was hoping to be able to discover them at City, but instead when the DJs get sick to death of playing Anarchy and Wrong for the 50th time, they vent by playing Gaga instead. And that's their choice. But it is disappointing to me. Sorry for the novel, everyone. Edited December 21, 2009 by TheOsakaKoneko

Funny thing is, 85%-90% of the time this usually kills the floor. lol I just don't see the big deal, and I've been going there for 15 years. So they played something out of the normal. It's not like every weekend they're playing less and less ebm/techno/synthpop/industrial etc... I dunno.. Maybe I'm one of the few that think this way. void6
You have to realize, when songs like Gaga or Jizzed or anything like that get played it's all out of fun.... You don't like them, well then go get a drink or use that time to go to the bathroom or talk to that person that you haven't seen in forever. If I'm to not play "popular radio type songs" well then you won't have me playing any NIN, Manson, Rob Zombie, Ramstien, Orgy, She Wants Revenge, Shiny Toy Guns, Portishead, etc which by the way all of those get requested so often. Leland City Club
Or MSI + tax on a BAZILLION $ $ $ $ WHY SO SERIOUS ? ? ? No one died that night, just like all of the other nights that songs that don't fit the norm of a "goth/industrial" club night got played. I get why DJ's play those songs, and I hope they NEVER STOP HAVING FUN while we all get to dance to the madness ! ! ! After all, with out that madness, we may never have heard a song like BAXENDALES "Music for Girls", among others, def not GOTH or INDUSTRIAL tunes, but still FUN songs to dance to, THANK U DJ J-9, MUCH LOVE and ! ! ! I hope our current and future DJ's keep this long time City Club tradition going for many years to come ! ! !

It would be awesomeness, but the reason I requested the one song not be played, is because I have a bad reaction to forms of rap. Even though the song was altered to fit more into the genre, I become enraged and potentially violent while listening to it. The time before the 19th when I was at City I had to leave early because I literally got into a rage. I was trying not to punch people, for little things, so I request that the song not get played- so I can continue to have fun. I'm sure I'm the only freak that has to leave her own work christmas party because certain music makes her violent. I'm insane, I know.
