Hellion
do not like this http://www.businessweek.com/blogs/money_politics/archives/2009/06/house_passes_ca.html Edited December 21, 2009 by Hellion
creatureofthenyte
It will be just another unfortunate "We told ya so" from all of us non-democrats. If they pass it, energy costs for All of us will most likely triple. Most of us Can't afford that. Obviously that doesn't phase Congress one bit; they'll just kiss our asses next November and try to buy their re-election.

AstralCrux
It's interesting that the energy companies are backing this. And it seems there's political pressure from other countries. I don't know the specifics on how much this will effect me, but anything California is for... well, it's probably dumb. (that was just a funny, mostly) This one I just need more info before I make a decision.
Der Nister
What’s more, the bill lies at the center of a high-stakes political calculation by the GOP. While there’s a strong anti-regulation ideology in the Republican Party, there have been plenty of Republicans who urged passage of climate legislation. Such supporters included governors like California’s Arnold Schwarzenegger and Florida’s Charlie Crist, along with Senator John McCain (R-Ariz.). But those former advocates have gone silent. The party has decided its best strategy for getting back into power is to deny President Barack Obama, who strongly backed the bill, any victories, no matter what the issue. At the same time, the GOP wants to paint the Democrats as the party of new taxes More evidence that the gop is more concerned about there political careers than doing anything to help Americans. And all this talk I hear from people saying whom they're gonna vote for does no good what so ever. When will Americans wake up and realize, it's not about which party you 'belong' in the political arena but rather - we are all humans sharing one planet and if people continue playing 'party' games just for votes WE WILL ALL END UP PAYING FOR WHAT WE FAILED TO DO. It's not like we can pack up and move to another planet if this one gets fucked up.

I would have to challenge the statement that the GOP is more interested in their political careers then in helping Americans. I am Not a Republican. If the Cap & Trade bill passes into law... Please tell me how paying $5/gallon for gas is going to "help" me ? Please tell me how paying Three times what I'm paying now for electricity is going to "help" me ? The electric companies seem to support this because they will make a shitload of Money as a result. So, if this horrid bill passes, can anyone tell me how bankrupting ALL U.S. citizens is going to "help" us ? This bill was written by a Democrat. I think they care about us A LOT less then what was previously stated about the GOP.

I recall the republicans had control of the house and senate for how many years and what direction did our country go in? De-regulation helped create the downfall of the housing market, made banks go bankrupt and put our economy in a tailspin. A fat lot of good de-regulation did. How about trying Reganomics again because that was another great idea the republicans had that didn't work out so great for the lower class people. It would be nice to think the republicans aren't all about corporations ($$$$$). Sorry but that's how it looks to me. We need to tap into our own oil supply to help our economy until we have an alternative fuel. How insane is it that America has a 100 or more year supply under our feet and all the while Washington keeps pressuring the auto industry to create cars that run on an alternative fuel. What the fuck is that all about? The only way we will continue getting scewed on fuel prices is if we continue to stay silent. We need to make our voices heard, not by voting but by writing our rep's and demanding they start doing what we want. We can bicker and bitch in the street all day but in the end, it does us no good. Barney Frank and Chris Dodd forced banks to make loans to people that couldn't afford them. They are largely to blame for the housing market going to the crapper. GWB & the GOP tried to nip the Fannie & Freddie situation in the bud, before the trainwreck happened, but the Democrats stonewalled their attempts every time. Barney Frank said Fannie & Freddie were doing just fine, and then look what happened. We need to vote the bums out. Our vote is our voice. We can decimate an entire forest worth of trees, in paper, by writing to our elected officials. The "healthcare" bill is on its way to passing, despite all the rallies and citizens speaking up at townhall meetings. Even the SEIU union doesn't want it anymore. The Democrats in Congress don't give a damn about us. They've turned a blind eye and a deaf ear to us; they know we don't want this, and they're gonna shove it up our butts anyway. Our vote is our voice.

The Democrats are the ones that won't let that happen. What exactly is the benefit of Cap and Trade? Obama openly admitted in the election his plan was to bankrupt the energy indusrty. He said the costs of energy will triple or higher under his plan. Cap n Trade is his plan.
