What is the best Lolita?

I was told my prom dress was Lolita style...

Is it??

Sorry sweetie, you do look adorable, but it's definitely not lolita. Explaining why in words is often difficult, but for starters, lolita needs a petticoat/poof under your skirt. The fabric is usually something natural, such as cotton, whereas this looks like polyester (which can be used but only high quality polyesters like chiffons or nice weaves...there are exceptions but in general it's easiest to stay away from poly), the lace looks like a polyester raschel scratchy lace which is not generally welcome in lolita. You definitely need a coordinating hairpiece rather than the pink - a big black bow would be adorable with that (headdresses are also good but they are considered "out of style" now in lolita - which does have trends like normal fashion - but they are still cute and you can still wear them [i do]), or a bonnet or something. The fitting in the bodice looks a bit too big and a bit awkward which could be improved. The sleeves definitely don't work, especially with the lace overlay used as fabric. It is possible to have big princess sleeves like that in lolita (though it also is very out of date), but it has to be done carefully to look right. The skirt doesn't look to be quite the right shape to wear a petticoat under even if you had one, though I can't say for sure from this photo. In addition, plain black tights are not usually the legwear of choice, though it can work in some cases/styles.

Your hair IS absolutely adorable, and is perfect for the style. I think you would be adorable in lolita. If you ever want to wear lolita and want some advice, please ask. I really worry that I sound harsh or judgmental here - that is by no means my intention. But since you asked, that's my opinion.

It's a cute gothy prom dress though!

I put my self out there for the punishment. Lol.

There was a head accessory with the dress, but being as it was for my prom I wanted something more dressy.

Ther pink was to match my pink spotted shoes... Mind you, I did was black ribbons...

There was also something to go underneath the dress to poof it out, but it was very itchy and awkward. So I didnt wear it with it.

Thanks for the judgment tho!! Very much appreciate it. I love the clothing, and my prom was years ago, when I had less experience with things. lol. I know more now.

If you've EVER wanted to wear lolita, READ THIS ARTICLE.

If you've ever wanted to know what lolita is (and is not), READ THIS ARTICLE.

Basically, if you are seeing this, READ THIS ARTICLE.

It expresses everything so much more clearly than I could ever hope to.

I honestly like this sort of lolita the best...I especially tend to become interested in the lolita fashion in the springtime. Most likely due to the fact that spring is my favorite season and I like the freshness and brightness that it brings. I have yet to actually own any lolita clothing, though.

I definitely would have guessed this about you. :)

I have a question for you...from what I've seen, a lot of sites that sell lolita clothing are somewhat expensive and are normally out of the US. Are there other places that will cost less in shipping (as well as less confusion money-wise) and are maybe cheaper but with good clothing?
