From Tom Shear's Waveformless Blog:

"Just heard the sad news that Dannie Flesher, the co-founder of Wax Trax Records, has died. If you've never heard of it, Wax Trax was one of the most important industrial-related labels in the 80's featuring such names as Front 242, Front Line Assembly, My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult, Meat Beat Manifesto, and countless Ministry side-projects.

Jim Nash, the other half of the Wax Trax team died in 1995 of AIDS-related complications.

I never met either one, but the impact the music on their label had on me was literally life-changing. The label was what introduced me to industrial dance music and made my angsty teenage years just a little bit more tolerable. All these years later, I'm actually making my living from this kind of music. I don't have anything profound to say, so I'll just leave it at "thanks for the music." "

That's my hometown label.

You guys had the Detroit Underground techno scene.

As a kid I'd go to my "cool friend"'s house, who always knew more about music than I do,

and always knew everything that wasn't on the radio.

Despite telling me about his "new favorite band" Jane's Addiction that just came out and was

10x cooler than the Red Hot Chili Peppers, among countless other groups,

it would always come back to the Wax Trax stuff.

I don't know how to say bye, so instead I'll play a song that will forever be tied to them

Friday, January 22 @ City Club DJ's Pleasure Kitten and myself will be holding a Wax Trax appreciation night (along with playing other old school tunes). Look for more info soon, but just thought I'd give you all an early heads up. Highly suggest heading out. I'll be digging through 20+ years of my collection (mind you I worked at 4 record stores!!!), unearthing some rare gems that haven't been played in ages. Should be a spectacular night! More info to come.

Ahhh.. Wax Trax -SO INFLUENTIAL on shaping my musical life.
