Apple is about to introduce the second coming of Jesus

Steve Jobs-

"SO all of us use laptops and smartphones... the question has arisen; is there room for something in the middle. We've wondered for years as well -- in order to create that category, they have to be far better at doing some key tasks... better than the laptop, better than the smartphone. What kind of tasks? Browsing the web. Doing email. Enjoying and sharing pics. Watching videos. Enjoying music. Playing games. Reading ebooks. If there's gonna be a third category, it has to be better at these tasks -- otherwise it has no reason for being. Now some people thought that was a netbook -- the problem is that netbooks aren't better than anything!"

^^ Bwaahahahaa!

So... it's a Tablet pc. This is new why?

Tablet PC's are laptops with a flip screen and touchscreens. This is not that. Those things ware expensive.

It's not a netbook. Those are cheap pieces of junk that feel like toys.

It's not revolutionary, for sure, but it does have a good range of functionality and the price isn't too bad, for Apple. Let's face it, Apple doesn't make cheap, bottom of the line products. The interface looks great, though. A significant step up from the iPhone's. Only thing missing is Flash and multitasking. Those would have made this a home run...

It's a consumer product, not a business one. I see a significant amount of people being able to use this as a laptop replacement. More then that, it's probably a great option if you want a nice device to supplement your desktop machine but don't need that device to do heavy duty computing chores.

Not the holy grail people were hyping it to be... but a nice product.

i agree, it looks like what i have been looking for, a prtable net surfer i can move about the house. but to take an assus ee with solid state drive is still cheaper.

anyhow

There's always something cheaper. Look at the Trabant... I'll take quality and design over cheap nine times out of ten.

yes a good example.

then again take the BMW's out there that suddenly decide to set the immobiliser when parked up because a brake light has blown and refuse to start again until you buy a bulb, and the cost of a BMW technician to come out and reset the BSI (and btw, the car will not tell the owner this, as discovered by a Peugeot technician who bought one and on way home from collection it decided to do this)

I use a blackberry Bold rather than the Storm because I like the buttons over touch screen. the iPhone is just too bloody expensive to consider as an option.

as with most apple devices.

i'll wait for 5th or 6th generation and not be lumped with buggy systems with its replacement a month down the line with no option of trade in due to the bugs

Oh yeah... No camera. That's a significant negative. Not necessarily for taking pictures but for video conferencing...

Add a camera, an SD card slot, a few USB ports, support for Flash video, keep the price the same, then maybe I'll start to be interested.

SD card slot is a good idea. I can live without a dedicated USB port but one would be nice. They have an adapter already that plugs into the 30-pin sync/charging port.

  • 4 weeks later...

I don't want an ipad.

I'd rather just get another hard drive for the laptop I have and buy an ipod touch or a ps3 for that price.

It also requires a 'DATA PACKAGE'

Meaning...it most likely will be stuck with at&t or Verizon, which...is...BULLSHIT!

I sell contract phones....

I know more than I want to know about these crooked companies.

It doesn't require a data package. On the WiFi/3G models you MAY buy a monthly prepaid data card, if you wish. There will be an AT&T card but others are free to provide them too, as far as I could tell from what I've read. The WiFi-only models just use whatever WiFi connection you can find.

You're probably better off getting more disc space if you already have a decent laptop...

Hmmm...it would be nice to have a device like this connected to my vehicle to give me numbers...but I am not sure that this device would talk to my vehicle.

I hope this sparks some sort of trend in the computer world to make more stuff like this. The laptop I have that flips into a notebook SUCKS and is pretty much only good for checking fuel trims and as a tray for when I am eating in the car...time for something new.

I can see something using an app and a way to connect the car either through a dock adapter or wireless/bluetooth. It will have iTunes/application support.

I have seen more flip-screen laptops break at that hinge than I care to.

Wireless connection with my computer would be awesome and I am sure that Apple would find a great way to do it...problem is price and dependability. I drive older models of cars because I don't trust alot of the wirelss connections and the fly-by-wire stuff...so I would probably go for more of a hard wired connection into a standalone system if anything.

And yeah those hinged deals are crap...after a while you end up with a two piece deal that doesn't work but does look cool...although I don't think an Ipad would handle a barrier break and a few roll overs that well either...oops! :p

If they can put WiFi capability into a USB drive-sized gizmo, seems like it wouldn't be hard to adapt that into something that plugs into the ECU. Then all you need is an app.

Well if it could compete price wise to the average standalone system out today that would kick ass!
