Don't like it, don't fly. I'll be curious to see if they're OK with the optional body searches by a member of the same gender.

KatRN05
Safety first is right. A religion shouldn't excuse someone from being screened.
candyman
This smells really fishy...but most of all my sides hurt from laughing so much...and my brain hurts from trying to understand the logic of the decision...
Gaf The Horse With Tears
First off... Can anyone show me where exactly in the Constitution your have a Right to security? I can show you where it says your have the Right to Religious Freedom. Second... If they don't take the screening, they can't fly. Your security is not being threatened. Msterbeau
Marc, I think Gaf is pro-screening.... I am too. But the way I read what he's saying about the constitution, is that religion > life. (Because in this case, security = life) In my opinion, that's kinda fucked up. Msterbeau
Marc, I think Gaf is pro-screening.... Also... they do have the option to submit to a full body search in place of the screening. I don't see how they'll find that any less objectionable, though. But, I guess as long as they are searched by the same sex it's better?
Gaf The Horse With Tears
I seem to remember someone qouting Franklin in simular situations. I don't have the qoute handy though... Perhaps you can help me out Marc. It was something about giving up freedom in name of security... can't remember how it goes. I'm pretty sure you know what qoute I am trying to remember. Msterbeau
I'm quite sure you remember the quote exactly and you're being an ass about it. Are you suggesting then, that we should not have body scans at all, or that anyone that objects for religious or other reasons that are afforded freedom under the constitution shouldn't have to go through them? Franklin's words hold a powerful truth, but that doesn't mean people should expect to apply them to every possible situation where a freedom is being impinged by a restriction for security purposes. That's simplistic at best.
Gaf The Horse With Tears
I am suggesting that flying is not a right. They can either be scanned, searched or find another way to get where they are going. We can't just toss out the Constitution because you don't like Islam. They can either be scanned, searched or find another way to get where they are going. We can't just toss out the Constitution because you don't like Islam. I would totally agree with this. You could have just stated it this way in the first place. I don't dislike Islam any more then I dislike Christianity, which is to say, I don't care for either. I do dislike the idea that religious and political fanatics find hijacking airplanes appealing.
Rev.Reverence
I'ld opt not to be scanned on religious grounds...the mere thought of it gives me the 'heebeejeebeez'....that's a for really-really-a-real-technical term....but then, no one in my religion ever had nothin' against a good pat down... SO, looks like they might let me fly still
phee
I know that this is a a very gross generalization.... BUT.... Is there really that much in modern societies rules that is NOT against Islamic Law in a literal sense?

Is there really that much in modern societies rules that is NOT against Islamic Law in a literal sense? ..some...& some of the Islamic Law is against the Law of the Land. Correction inserted, I'ld agree, that there is MUCH incongruousness between them...just like the Amish, & their 'backwards-brethren' ( )...just, something in the different doctrines they follow, make one group want to feed us good foods, & make bad assed furnitures; & the other group want to blow us up. This Law doesn't seem to affect the Amish & such... I think it's great!
