Interesting and funny observations about the 02.13.10 request sheets

Recommended Posts

I actually saved the request sheets from 02.13.10 because they were pretty funny and sad. Maybe I'll scan them in later for you all to see...

Random notes/Observations;

Wolfsheim - "Once in a Lifetime" appears requestd no less than 4 times and sadly you can always count on this track appearing on the request sheets. Someone even took the creative liberty to spell it Wolfien.

Nominated for top honors in the BMA's (Bad Music Awards)

Project Pitchfork got written really BIG on one piece of paper. FYI - I'm closer to being deaf than being blind.

Covenants "Dead Stars" see's it's usual place on the request sheets (TWICE!!!)... kinda like classic rock stations always having the same 35 songs in rotation... good tune but perhaps it's time has come and gone? New Covenant CD on it's way very soon however.

Somebody wrote down AAA=SYL. HUH? OMG WTF? PBR ASAP OK.

Rachelle and Shane love us, but I don't think they had a request.

New Kids on the Block!!!??? Seriously. If you're going to be funny, please be more funny than New Kids.

And besides, there's a band out there that does a mean industrial cover of "Hanging Tough". Be careful what you wish for, you just might hear that one.

Korn and Wham ("Jitterbug") on the same request sheet! Same handwriting too. Prolly some guy who thinks he's all Tap-Out Tough but has a soft side to him as well.

Garbage - #1 Crush. Actually we're not aloud to play this anymore... some new law passed down by Congress. Seriously! Go Google it!

A request for Terrorfakt is a nice thing to see. However they don't do a song called "Unleash the Ghost" that I know of. And I've toured with Terrorfakt.

"Skullfuck you" is not the name of the song. It's Skullfuck and the artist is Modulate. Likewise the "fuck you like an animal" song is "Closer" by Nine Inch Nails (at least somebody got this right later in the night. Congrats you can go to the bonus round and ask for Rammsteins Du Hast)

KMFDM - Anarchy. We're trying to fight boredom with music, not the other way around...

A Request for Geneviève Pasquier!!! HOLY SHIT!!! Actually the person who wrote this down had about 4 other request for amazing stuff. 2 of which were played and the other 2 would have been played had I thought to bring them with me, thought that someone may wish to hear them other than me. VERY Nice to see something different. Made my night. Whoever you are, introduce yourself next time...

A request for the Charleston? It's 2010, not 1923... but nice try Grandpa Simpson.

Manson - "Don't Care Nothin about it!" Good, then you won't care if I don't play it...

Front 424 is actually Front 242. But it's really mean to make fun of people with Dyslexia...

DJ Rashad?!!! Hit the strip club over off 8 mile, you'll probably hear it 8 times or more.

Alright then, hope you find this amusing. Now back to laundry and more important things.

Are you sure? One of you guys played that Shaolyn track "Face Down", so it's probably headed that way, lol.

I think what people fail to realize with the Shaolyn track is that it was simply intended as a humorous introduction to her project, something to put the spotlight on her apart from being the live keyboard player for Faderhead. It worked and perhaps a bit too well. The tracks fun and I've rarely seen the assoication between a song and people realizing which band it is as quickly as with that track. Shaolyn has a new track forthcoming on Bunkertracks 5, so hopefully "Face Down" can be retired.

anyways, Deathkey...

I'm a big fan of Rammstein but I'm sorry, Du Hast is played to death. Plus they've put out quite a few more albums since Sehnsucht came out. A few come to mind: Ich tu dir Weh, Pussy, Wollt Ihr, Mein Teil, Te quiero puta, Reise, Reise etc..

Rofl. Fucking awesome. Myself being a musical elitest in more ways than one A) Understand your frustration and B) Got a damn good laugh out of this. If you don't know the name of a song, don't sound like a moron and write down what you THINK it's called. Apparantly you don't like it enough to even remember the name so learn that first, you know proper name and spelling of the band's name, THEN come back and request it at CC. Personally, other than people requesting ridiculously over played shit like Megalomaniac, Assimilate (I LOVE Skinny Puppy and this song is now ruined for me from going to CC and hearing it EVERY weekend although I haven't seen it in the playlist as much lately), Anarchy, #1 Crush, anything by Marilyn-Horrible-Manson, Closer, Military Fashion Show (I loved this song. This was the song Pest and I hooked up to at CC one night after a decent amount of booze and now? Ruined. I always request OTHER And One now, for instance, got Steine Sind Steine played last weekend), Dead Stars and Du Hast to name a few, misspellings and wrong song names are a huge pet peeve of mine.

As soon as my fiance and I heard Lady Gaga, we left. Not just the dance floor; we left the club entirely. We seriously don't want to hear that shit.

Well, that'd be Void 6's doing and you'll have to bring your complaints or whatever up with him... he has his reasons for playing it.

People either love or hate that song. Some feel it's a fine 3-4 minute break from all the dark dance stuff of city club, some go get a drink, some purist feel it has no place in the playlist-- to each their own I say.

Sorry you feel that way Spook. I originally started playing that song as a break, a chance for people to go get a drink, visit with friends, go to the bathroom, and what not. The song however did get really good response, yeah I know she probably doesn't fit. Even my gf gets on me about playing her. However alot of people, including those that are quite active on DGN have come up and personally requested it.

I happen to like Alice DJ, Eiffel 65, ATC, and more. But those don't belong at City Club either and I'd probably leave if those came on too.

I'd rather hear a request that does fit the genre even if it's spelled wrong or they got the title wrong, and even if it is overplayed, than hear a request that doesn't fit the genre.

This thread amuses me. On the rare occasion that I make a request, I'll glance at what other people wrote on the page, and it's usually pretty funny.

I fucking hate Lady Gaga, but a lot of people like her for whatever reason. I won't leave when she is played, only because watching people dance to her can be quite funny.

Like phee wrote, the DJ's will never make eveyone happy. Such is life. :)

It's a shame that trance never took off at City Club. There's so much good stuff in that genre and then if you dig even further into the psy-trance you'll find some amazing tracks that share a ton of similarities with industrial, ebm, etc...

Negative format, X marks the Pedwalk, Ivory Frequency all come to mind as industrial bands that borrow heavily influences from trance...

I liked when there was the attempt to play some SOMA... that would have been great if it caught on.

Heh, it wasn't supposed to turn into a thread on bashing lady gaga... basically just a post to try to be funny and highlight some of the craziness that can be found weekly on the request sheets.

I would like to point out that Playing Lady GaGa is not really a new idea... I remember a few years ago when Pink would get mixed into Project Pitchfork, and Gwen Steffani as well....

The onslaught of complaints did not happen then.... (if they did I didn't see it)

Its funny, the music I sometimes can't stand is not so much the out of left field stuff (I like a bit of variety in the mix, as well as the ability to reflect on what I do like), but the stuff that is requested all the time at CC... I would be happy hearing Lady Gaga a few times here and there if it meant never having to hear Marylin Manson's shitty covers of other peoples perfectly good material again.

Pinks "Just Like a Pill" is an awesome song. Oh and BTW on a side note - Did you know Daniel Meyer of Haujobb released a new Architect CD? Gonna give it a listen this afternoon. will make a separate post about it in music forum...

Cheers!

As for covers, nothing beats the time I heard Razed in Black's cover of "Damage Inc." down there (I think Chris Rohn played it his first time DJing at City). We stopped, looked at each other, and then my friend says, "... I didn't know there was such a thing as industrial cock rock." LOL! We never heard it there again :)

Here it is, for reference:
