Interesting and funny observations about the 02.13.10 request sheets

Recommended Posts

It's a shame that trance never took off at City Club. There's so much good stuff in that genre and then if you dig even further into the psy-trance you'll find some amazing tracks that share a ton of similarities with industrial, ebm, etc...

Negative format, X marks the Pedwalk, Ivory Frequency all come to mind as industrial bands that borrow heavily influences from trance...

Good stuff.

I've also been diggin' on Trip-Hop a lot lately. I wish something like the old Clutch Cargos from the 90s still existed. Industrial and such in the basement; dance/pop stuff on the main floor; trip-hop, trance, acid jazz, and the like up stairs.

Lmao at requesting Strapping Young Lad...

Really, I just laughed at the majority of this thread in general.

I vote that you guys just not allow requests sheets for a few weeks as punishment for the stupidity that is the majority of CC goers.

Also... play boys 2 men..all night. that would be funny. make them paaaay!! lol

Actually, what you guys should do is make a list of tasks that you want done, and if people do them, you will grant them a request (remember the movies, marc? lol)

I love this thread. Whenever I show up to city I make comments next to requests and silly comments on thr request sheets. I forget which dj it was but one of them tracked me down once to ask why I was writing phrases from a see and say on the sheet lol. I like to entertain myself and the djs.

I think Void & Saint should do a 20 minute mash up of all the popular songs and play only the first few seconds of each song so people get really pissed off because they think a good song is coming on and then it's suddenly gone...

ROFL - Brilliant!

Yeah, that was me. It was such a random message on the request sheet that I needed to figure out if I was missing something. hehe. ;-)

haha. I haven't been to City since then I don't think....but a visit is coming soon...which means a new round of request sheet terrorism!

Maybe I'll bring smiley and frowny face stickers to put next to requests when i look over the sheet....

I actually saved the request sheets from 02.13.10 because they were pretty funny and sad. Maybe I'll scan them in later for you all to see...

Random notes/Observations;

Wolfsheim - "Once in a Lifetime" appears requestd no less than 4 times and sadly you can always count on this track appearing on the request sheets. Someone even took the creative liberty to spell it Wolfien.

Nominated for top honors in the BMA's (Bad Music Awards)

i find this amusing. seems like at least wolfsheim fits the genre - nominating it for a BMA, yet playing lady gaga?

still, i'm not a dj, so what do i know? they do a great job obviously, or nobody would be dancing...

tAtU fucking rules!

"How Soon Is Now" was also covered by Russian duo t.A.T.u. ...

Marr found t.A.T.u.'s version "just silly", but Morrissey considered viewed it much more favorably:

Interviewer: Did you hear Tatu's version of 'How Soon Is Now'?

Morrissey: Yes, it was magnificent. Absolutely. Again, I don't know much about them.

Interviewer: They're the teenage Russian lesbians.

Morrissey: Well, aren't we all?

Didn't you guys pull this off a couple of weeks ago? Got me laughing my ass off. Especially since most of the ones in the mix were things I have seen on the request list that have been overplayed of late, and ones that I particularly don't enjoy myself (I know quite a few do...I can only imagine the mental cock-blockery this gave them.)

Laugh riot, guys. :)

They ARE listening ;) ... recently I've been throwing down some mashups of things like scooter mashed into Skinny puppy or better yet Rammstein mashed into Suicide Commando. Oh yeah theres also the Dirty Girls/Skullfuck mix that combines the 2 songs into one.

Yeah get to kill 2 birds with one stone and it keeps it interesting for me as a DJ.

I think what people fail to realize with the Shaolyn track is that it was simply intended as a humorous introduction to her project, something to put the spotlight on her apart from being the live keyboard player for Faderhead. It worked and perhaps a bit too well. The tracks fun and I've rarely seen the assoication between a song and people realizing which band it is as quickly as with that track. Shaolyn has a new track forthcoming on Bunkertracks 5, so hopefully "Face Down" can be retired.

anyways, Deathkey...

Did someone say DEATHKEY...!

With all these comments about gaga would you be happy with a more scene appropriate compromise http://www.youtube.c...h?v=DfhL8lzhJNo

I know how the kids love the DR. Claw (curse you gadget) vocal effect so this should help bridge the gap

A special thanks goes out to PsyBorgCorp for creating the one mix everyone will be screaming for. Granted we will be screaming turn that shit off but we'll be screaming none the less.

Ignore that cover version... There's better versions (techno, hardstyle, industrial) out there if you look or simply even care.

As for Psyborg Corp, nice to see others catching on finally as to who these promising newcomers are. I recall their demo from 2008 showed a ton of promise back then. They recently signed to Noitek (once home to Grendel and Psyclon Nine) and their debut CD see's release this Friday. You want a better introduction to this band then that Lady Gaga cover version, you can download the bands first single for FREE via their MySpace page...
