I fixed the link!

Actually, all of the other Republicans voted for the extension. This is just a colossal dick move by one asshole, who is retiring this year and therefore doesn't have to pretend to give a flying fuck about the 10.7% unemployment rate in his own state.

Another link that gives the full measure of Bunning's extreme dickitude.

Yes, I am taking this very personally.

In some cases I truly believe it should not be extended.. I know more than 10 people who have been on or were on Unemployment for a very long time, and they never made an effort to get a job.. I even tried to get a couple of them a job.. It would have been guaranteed.

I see that it is not fair for those who are actually trying to obtain work.. It is also not fair to the people who are working and paying taxes to have to watch the ass-hats who feel like they don't have to do shit because they are pretty much getting free money, just sit around and loaf.

I'm sick of it!! Theses same people bitch about the state of the economy, yet they are doing nothing to change it.. Get a Fracking job where ever you can!!!!! Then look for another job while you work the shitty job!!!!!

OMG.. What a concept.

Sorry If I just offended anyone, but I feel very strongly about this.. I have seen way to many people take advantage of the system, and that just ruins it for everyone

Yeah this sucks but the number of people that abuse the system make it a real bitch to work correctly. It is a lesson most people learn in grade school...it only takes one person to abuse it and then its gets taken from everyone...but now we have more than one person abusing it.

Nobody is saying the economy is great or that jobs are EASY to find...but I have found plenty of part-time work, seasonal work, and odd jobs that have not only paid my bills but also allow me to go out with my friends to have a few beers on occasion. If you gotta go out to a farm and shovel shit for a few hours each day then do it...not to mention the fact that alot of farmers pay with money AND food! Seriously, go ask a farmer if he needs odd help around the farm...if he says no he is lying.

So, I should go out and work "any job", for less than what I get on unemployment, and therefore lose my house and car because unemployment is barely enough to cover both as it is? Don't think so.

I do have a problem with people who collect benefits for extended periods and don't make any effort to get any kind of schooling or training that would make them employable. I see this a lot with people in the auto industry, and there's no excuse for it when there are so many displaced worker programs out there. So yes, a case-by-case system for granting extensions would make more sense.

I have never made less than unemployment on any of these jobs. The lowest I made was $9 an hour loading trucks. I made $14 an hour doing seasonal soil testing for a local company and the same amount working as a furniture delivery worker. At the farms you usually get around $10 and hour for stuff but most of them just pay you in a big lump sum that you agree upon when you start...and sometimes they thrown in a side of beef which is nothing to sneeze at.

It should be a case by case thing but do you really think that they will do that? And if they do will they go about it the right way?

My buddy has been on unemployment for a few months now not sure how long exactly though. While he is on it he is required to job hunt. Well, with the unemployment checks and the odd jobs or seasonal jobs that he fill he is having no problems. Unemployment wont boot you for making a few bucks on the side while they send you some. I am saying that if you are on unemployment you should do everything possible...not saying anyone on here is but still. I installed a friends dishwasher and fridge water supply for $90 last Thursday...people WILL pay you to do anything as long as it lets them sit on their ass. Everyone has talents and those talents can get you money...around here the local churches have alot of members that will take help...even if you hate religion and think that its pity money it is still MONEY!

I was approved for another 6 weeks. I have been unemployed for over two years now. I have tried so many different places for work. I miss working but its hard to take a job thats paying me less then unemployment. I need a good 9 dollar an hour or more 40 hour work week here.

I think that sums up a lot of what people are running into

Yep thats the problem. Due to the high unemployment, jobs are offering less pay because they know if I dont take it there are thousands more who will. Honestly why should I work to be poorer. I know this pisses some off but hey pay my bills with less money plus I would be using more gas and tell me how this is logical.

FYI, if you are on unemployment and you take a part time job that pays less that what you make through UE, they will still send you some money. They will just reduce it by a fraction of what you made work that week, so you're actually getting a little more than you would with just UE alone. I know because last year at this time I was working a part time job, working a part time work study job, doing an externship for school, and taking 13 credits, and I was still receiving some money from unemployment because what I was making still wasn't as much as my unemployment was.

So, yeah, I have issues with people who just keep expecting extensions, without really trying to find a job. The minimum requirement for unemployment is that you update your online resume once a month, and apply for/send resumes for 3 jobs per week, but we all know that with the economy the way it is, that's not enough to land you a job unless you have amazing credentials or are incredibly lucky. So, yeah, I have issues with people who just keep expecting extensions, without really trying to find a job. I'm not saying anyone here is doing that, but I know it happens.

Shit I wish I even qualified for unemployment. I've been unemployed since September 2008 and nothing in my area is hiring, not even McDeath. Only thing with me is I can only work part-time nights and weekends so I can help take care of dad during the day. I've got both my student loans on deferment right now because I have no way to pay them, which is going to cost me more money in the end.

Even though I probably could have paid off my student loans I am having the Army do that...considering I make it through Basic. It sucks when you pay out the ass for college, study hard, and then you can't even get an internship with even the shittiest company like GM...er...I mean Penzoil. However, these things happen and since I don't qualify for unemployment, even though I was unemployed every time I applied, I had to do my own stuff. Does it pay well all the time? No. Does it suck alot? Yes. But once again these things happen and people gotta work through it. Its funny how unemployed people get mad at you when you mention part time jobs that they could get...I don't understand how mentioning a possible job with income, however small, could be so offensive.

Also, and I am going to get flamed for this, the equal opportunity thing might not help either. Now this is just with me and people I know so do not think I am applying it to everywhere. Autozone cannot hire me even though I worked there and proved myself by earning their stupid little patches and gaining my own little Honda customer base...and the reason they gave was that they had to hire a minority first which would actually take away the job slot anyways. They remain understaffed after 8 months of not being able to hire a minority. Three shops in the area would have gladly taken my college degree, ASE certifications, and job referrals and put me on as a Service Tech RIGHT AWAY which doesn't happen because you usually always have to start as a lube tech...and again they told me that they are required to hire a minority first. Maybe I live in an area that is too white. They all keep my applications on the top of the list...but that doesn't pay my bills. And because I can't get unemployment I really had nowhere to turn. Yes I am going to the Army which I always wanted to do...but I also wanted to become a good service tech with my own shop in the future.

Get it? Its all fucked up and I don't see how extending benefits is going to help anything at all. For those that abuse the system it will be great and will fuck the rest of use over even more. For those that are in the system and "can't" get out it will be fine and will just keep the scraping along. For those that should be in the system but cannot for some reason it will be just one more kick in the nuts. For those not in the system with no need to be it is one more thing to get pissed about which will widen just one of the many gaps that we have forming. Something tells me that extending benefits for unemployment is the LAST thing that we should be worrying about right now because in the end its just going to keep us just where we are..."extend" our misery if you will.

Affirmative action is a travesty and one of the most racist American moves we've seen since the civil rights movements (Note: I just re-read this part and I made it sound like the civil rights movement was racist in and of itself which was not my intent...I meant there were a lot of racist things that lead up to and happened during the CRM.). It's stating to minorities: "We figure you can't do as good as whites, so we'll give you a little handicap and just sort of hand you a job that you might not be as qualified for." Then people start thinking minories are mentally stupid and not capable and then the white guy who lost his job to the minority that got the job simply for their skin pigment is more hateful and vengeful towards minorities EVER.

I don't know who came up with it, but they need their fucking head checked for ANY traces of logic  .

YEAP...it's called "under-employment" and it's a decent amount of your money. I knew someone who was making I think $400 a month on unemployment and then got a part-time job. He now makes around $300 a month at his job and they still give him under-employment of $300 a month.

NOBODY has an excuse not to take ANY job while on unemployment. I don't like people who steal and if somone is passing up ANY job opportunities while I'm working my ass off on my job to support their laziness and/or excuse making...that's stealing. It's wrong. They don't cut off your unemployment when you get a job, they still give you a VERY decent amount.

I believe that unemployment is sadly used to abuse by leeches and sleeze-bags more than it is actually used for good. I have actually seen unemployment destroy people more than help them, and trust me I've been frequenting seedy-areas my whole life and currently reside across the street from Detroit, I certainly know people on it. It's like if a little kid were to be playing a sport and they were to not come in first, they come in fourth....you're still going to give them a gold medal? Bullshit. You tell them to try harder next time. I think unemployment is giving people who inherently try to cheat whatever system they can a "gold medal" without even being in the race to begin with. They then get the idea "Holy shit, it's easy to get by sitting on my ass and not working" and this enables them to be lazy, make up excuses, and not try at life. These people become burdens that working citizens are forced to support and usually the person leeching off of the system will end up losing ALL motivation in life, become sedate, let themselves go, have low self-esteem and self-worth, etc, but since they've been comfortable spanging off the system for so long they don't even realize that this behavior is what's causing their downfall.

I don't believe in fully taking away benefits though. I believe that if you're on unemployment and a job comes along they should force you to take that job (obviously contingent on qualifications and ability to perform the job tasks). Since you're a beggar you shouldn't get to be a chooser.

There are a few number of people, and note I said few because of the hundreds of people I've known on welfare in my life time I have only met two like this, that graciously receive their money and use it for things such as putting gas in their car to find a job, faxing resumes, buying nice interview clothes, and keeping a roof over their head with utilities on. They are trying to utilize the money day in and day out until they finally get a job and it usually does not take them very long as they actually DO it instead of making excuses about doing it. I applaud these very few people as they are admirable and I am honored that my tax dollars can go to help their cause and goal of self-improvement.

If I were on unemployment I personally would take a job at a McDonald's if I had to just to know that I was stealing less from the pockets of my other American brothers and sisters. But that's just me and that's just IMO.

About ERA/CRM and affirmative action as it relates to you. If you had been born in the late 1800's, you would have been one seriously pissed off woman because of the opportunities closed to you. Even now, there are men who would be biased against you because of gender and work to "keep you down" for some jobs. Not an inconsequential percentage, either. It's not entirely fair that less qualified applicants get jobs. In some cases it's downright stupid. But the fact is, many minorities (and woman) are in a terrible position even today because of the systematic bigotry, racism and old-boy networks of the past and would never have opportunities to better themselves if they didn't get some advantage. It's not something that can or should go on for a long period of time but it does need to allow a couple generations to get a break. After that, it's time for Darwin to do his thing.

On a related rant... Why do minorities and women who desire to be equal to everyone then turn around and make organizations only for themselves? If you want to be the best at something, why do it only in the context of a subgroup of peers???
