a zombie at DEMF? Thats kinda funny...maybe you could be a fuzzy rainbow zombie....tongue2.gif

It was def better when it was free

have not enjoyed it much since they took out one of the stages...no more break dancers...

if you look on the itinerary you will find that the really good acts are spread out so you have to sit through a bunch of eh not so good ones...and wait hours for one you really like to come on...in the heat...paying 5 bucks a lemonaid...buy one cup and refill it in the bathroom with water to save money, they wont let you bring in your own.

Hide your weed WELL....if they find it they take it...I used to just park in the underground garage. Then I would just walk back to my car to smoke, I stopped doing it in the festival...cops everywhere.

Oh and maybe make a brownie...so you can extend your high and not need to smoke as much.

Its best at night so I would say just skip the early parts...like early in the day...not much going on...save your dance energy for night.

At night? Doesn't it end waaaay early now because, you know, all those preppy kids have a curfew that they can't break or mom and dad will be pissed?

Last time I went I think it ended waaaay early. Like 10. I think the first time I went though, when it was free, it went way longer. But like I said previously, I was so srsly off my face, so I may be inaccurate.

I'm there every year. This will be my 7th DEMF. I'm already excited about it.

Tix on sale now. $40 for a weekend pass till April 2nd. $65 at the door. I'll be getting mine this weekend. Usually get the VIP but too poor this year *tear*. But we'll make up for it in the after parties I guess.

I'm the type of person who loves doing all kindsa diferent stuff to have fun. I like bumpin booties with the dark n scarys at city, jumpin in a pit at my local neighborhood punk bar, makin out with tranies at the gay clubs, any festival usually. It's more fun than staying stagnant. You'll have a blast girlie! The city is really a lot of fun that weekend - full of happy people.

Never been... sounds interesting just for people-watching and networking value... but... meh...

It really is. I've met people from all over the world at DEMF. And people from all walks of like. All ages from babies to old ppl in wheel chairs. The people watching compares to nothing else in michigan. If you don't go to the fest it's at least worth it to chill on the riverwalk and enjoy that much for free. Or hit up one of the after parties to mingle with the tourists. It's not everyday Detroit has so many new ppl here to play with.

I'm so excited. I want to go out and meet people. Dance and experience life in a new light.

You're gonna have too much fun! Don't go home at midnight tho. Do yourself a favor and check out some of the sick afterparties. I would also recomend getting a room downtown that way no one needs to drive home impaired. But if your a troopers some of the parties don't end till 12pm (some end at 7am and the next one starts as that one ends) when the fest opens. Some of the more hardcore fester just stay at the party then go straight to the fest and chill/nap on the lawn. Monday you'll see lotsa ppl napping.

Just be safe! My 2nd one (I was 17) the chick that drove tried to enter an exit ramp. We saw headlights coming at us going onto the freeway. Then we got lost in the hood, one of those burned down neighborhoods on the side on the freeway. Then almost got mugged. Moral of the story and my advice to baby demfers is stay downtown if possible and don't drive if you don't have to. Detroit is confusing enough to navigate sober especially if your not experienced doing it (driving in Detroit, not driving drunk).

Ps. They usually publish a list of after parties ahead of time so it's easier to plan out your weekend

activities.

Axelle, good luck and have fun. I enjoyed DEMF up until about 2 years ago...the last time I went to it was back in May of 2008. I personally thought the lineup that year sucked, and ended up at something going on at St Andrew's Hall called Industrial Fest II the rest of the weekend (by far I had more fun at that...more my scene). Nonetheless, just follow the advice of everyone who posted here and enjoy yourself.

The Leland IS horrible but cheap. Also they alway have a huge party right there in your hotel that doesn't end till 10am -ah, convenient. Also there is a really cool lobby, a liquor store and a bar in the place, Lucy & Ethle's diner kicks ass, it's within walking distace from hart plaza, and the people mover stops right across the street. Plus secure free parking for the whole weekend. Thats where we usually stay.

I heard a rumor that there might not be a party at the complex this year. Anybody know anything about it? It'd be cool to know before we get a room.

@Saint I couldn't agree with you more, Autechre would be just insanity. 2006 was the best year, Nitzer Ebb, Chemlab and Kill Memory Crash! I would also love to see Orbital this year........

I thought Orbital broke up.... ?

Anyone know if you can buy single day tickets? I can only go one day, and 60 bucks seems a bit steep for me. Was hoping they had single day passes for cheaper.

they always do...but you can't get them in advance; you have to buy them there.

probably in the $25-30 range this year, but I don't know that for sure.

I'm bummed I can't go.

For all who are going, if you're okay with a little rock with your electronic ( and I mean little since it's a singer and a programmer, albeit a singer who thinks he's Freddie Mercury)

please check out Ghostland Observatory.

I've seen them twice in concert and they were great shows.

This song burrows into my head and won't leave

Tickets to this event are $60!!! You cannot buy single day tickets either. I have a feeling this is the last year of DEMF. It's the only Hart Plaza event that's not free and they jack up the prices every year. I was going to go on Saturday to see Josh Wink and Plastikman, but not for $60. What a bunch of crap. One of the coolest things in the city is officially ruined.
