Here's some music news about a band who isn't Brokencyde...

Front Line Assembly will return this year with a new album preceeded by a new single.

The single holds the title “Shifting Through The Lens” while the album is entitled “Improvised Electronic Device”. No known release date yet, but expect it this Spring and the album will feature collaboration with Ministry’s Al Jourgensen on the track “Stupidity”.

In addition to penning lyrics and vocals, Jourgensen also arranged and mixed the track at his 13th Planet Studios in El Paso, TX. Spearheading the collaboration is FLA’s Jeremy Inkel, who also performs with Left Spine Down, the opening act on Jourgensen’s side project RevCo’s 2009 North American Tour.

Jourgensen and FLA have dedicated "Stupidity" to the loving memory of WaxTrax! CEOs Jim Nash and Dannie Flesher. May the WaxTrax! Legacy Live Forever.

Music news that's not Brokencyde OOOOHHH!

Hey, does that mean they qualify as one of the bands that evolved so you

or one of your DJs'll actually play it at more than the annual Old School night?

Not sure what you mean by qualify... Theirs no established criteria that older acts who continue to release music must have to see play at City Club. I personally like when an older band evolves their sound over the years (think Skinny Puppy, Nitzer Ebb, Vomito Negro, Portion Control) versus an older band rehashing the same formulaic splooge over and over again (KMFDM).

Front Line Assembly has a vast catalog of material that pops up more than regularly on the playlist. I'm partial to Caustic Grip and Mindphaser era, but the new stuff like "Civilatization" I've heard get played a lot.

This new FLA should be pretty cool ya think?

I would love to hear more Portishead and Switchblade Symphony.

Lets see - Switchblade Symphony disbanded in 1999 and "Sweet's" been getting played since 2001. The rest of their catalog plods along like a Ford product from the same year. Best chances of hearing Switchblade would be on an old school night.

At least Portishead is still releasing music. Again something I'd personally play earlier in the night before prime-time (11:30 pm). Decent music but rather lethargic for the dancefloor.

Interesting that so many people are requesting music from 10+ years ago. Really hope you people are taking note of the old school nights and planning on attending those. I haven't been scheduled to DJ one yet but I'm gonna throw my hat in the ring and try to get onboard for DJ'ing one. Having worked at Blitz Records, Absolute Music and Harmony House and being an avid industrial/electornic collector for 20+ years I'm confident I could dust off some classics long forgotten and not often heard.

However...

with that said, we have to look to the future of music and this scene as well. The new stuff shows progression and where the genres are heading. There's further exploration of new sounds and new ideas, genres getting broken down, merging into one. It's the new that keeps music exciting and interesting - it's what will assist the club in moving forward rather then rehashing the past over and over and over again. Not saying we need to do away with all things old as there's some timeless classics for sure, but there's so much current new material that deserves YOUR attention. The times and the culture are changing and music goes hand in hand with that.

Just my thoughts...

And sure the industrial scene has probably taken more than a few wrong turns along the way and theirs plenty of copy cat acts out there now... but look at your big name bands from years past that manage to still be around today (thinking Puppy, Front Line Assembly, Vomito Negro, Nitzer Ebb)... the reason they are STILL around today is because they EVOLVE and PROGRESS. Let's look at it like this; Suicide Commando better today than 15 years ago because he's progressed to working with modern sounds. Sisters of Mercy no new album in 15 years because he hasn't figured out how to progress...

Regardless my friend, it's just music... not a big deal. This whole post has gone in 200000 directions since it started...

All off this made me feel like requesting old stuff would be kinda pointless. Of course, you did parenthetically mention FLA.

This new FLA should be pretty cool ya think?

I am VERY much looking forward to hearing it. I love FLA. It is funny that TNI gets all the acclaim, since Caustic Grip is my favorite, and of course their newer stuff is great.

Yay :animier:. Thank God, I couldn't handle another BrokenCYDE type band getting hype on DGN. Real good music! I better not be let down.

I also believe that new Skinny Puppy should be out around March 30th. I'm gonna hop over to Litany and get an actual date on that, hop back over here, and make a new thread for it if there isn't one already. But with the way the "goth" community has been going we're more likely to see a totally industrial band like BrokenCYDE get their own thread before Skinny Puppy.:wallbash:

I was worried that maybe I was getting old and that's why I haven't liked the crap that has been on here lately...but no. I realized that the youngins just have shitty taste in music.

Always feel free to request it... you may never know what I'll drag out of my cases and surprise the City crowd with. True and yes, lately I'm very focused on introducing the new material and trying to get the lesser known bands some further exposure. Assisting people in discovering new bands is more enlightening (to me at least) than playing Sisters of Mercy "Marian" for a 1 billionth time. Keep in mind I am only 1 DJ out of 5 there and we all have different taste so if I don't play it maybe somebody else will. And with old school nights happening every other month or so there's still great opportunities to hear the classics

be well
