Computer Woes

Recommended Posts

So.. about two weeks ago I rebooted my pc. It didn;t boot back up. It went through all the motions of booting.. no picture. Grrr :(

So I packed up my box and headed into work whee I had the resources to really diag the hardware. After 3 hours of testing, retesting and chain smoking I determined that the cpu and mainbaord had fried. For no apparent reason. WEll, fuck.. I run a pretty high end system. Athlon64 3400+ and a Asus K8N-E Deluxe mainbaord. Both trash. Both still under manufacturer's warranty. :)

So, on monday I spent most of the day gettings in touch with the Asus and AMD. Jumping through flamming hoops and dancing on the head of pins. Life was a bit frustrating.

Since then I have been waiting. Biting my nails, getting angry for no reason and generally going crazy. Last friday I got an email from AMD. My cpu had passed the mechanical visual inspection. Which means I didn't fuck it up so I get a new one. Go me.

Today....

11:15am Fed-Ex shows up with a box for me from AMD. I open it. Inside is a Athlon64 3700+. Woohoo I got a free upgrade. I'm all happy... I'm dancing around and bragging to my coworker.. Fed-Ex man says.. "Almost missed this one on my truck.." and hands me another box. Hrmmm... this one is from AMD too.... Inside I find ANOTHER Athlon64 3700+!!!!!!!!!! GO ME!!!!!!!

Feel free to Envy me now.

Sweet I should OC the fuck out of my 3200+ so I can get a free upgrade.. Actually it would be harder to fry my CPU than to buy a 3700.. Unless I ripped the huge heatsink off.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I always thought OC'ing voided the warranty

That it does and AMD can tell. Starting a few months ago they do a "Mechanical Visual Inspection" of every cpu sent in for replacement. If you bend a pin and straighten it out, they can tell. If you Over-clock it and it fried.. they can tell. If you drop the cpu more than 3 inches.. they can tell. All void your warranty.
