Anyone else feel like that is what this site has turned into... With a bunch of lol threads, spam, and barely any discussion on the actual scene, and when there is, someone thread jacks it with a silly sarcastic remark or image... I feel like this is just a /b/ or 4chan type site with a spookier lay out. Kinda bums me out... Anyone else feel that way? Im not saying its a bad thing, not really my cup of tea but yea, obviously some people like it that way.

*waits for someone to tell me to leave if I dont like it*

The flames and content is kind of like seasons on this board.... as is with human nature.... it comes and it goes.

I find that DGN has plenty to offer. There are tons of places where people thoughts are appreciated. And a lot of times if people seriously hijack, I find someone tells them off.... Might be what I just see though.

Look man, alot of popular internet trends origionate from places like 4chan, somethingawful, and well... rarely gaia.

As for spam, i have not seen any here.

And this site really isn't like 4chan at all. There are actual discussions, on /b/, you got about 3 replies before everyone is calling everyone a fag or "n!@@#&" or whatever. That site is full of nothing but trolls, this site has real people

So what if they post some popular trends that have come from 4chan, at least they're not immitating all the bad shit along with it.

It does tend to be that way at times, and other times there's better stuff. Like Phee said, it tends to go in seasons. Personally, some days my brains are too fried from work to handle anything but fluff.

It's all up to DGN members, one of which is you. So if you don't enjoy what's being posted, then post something interesting yourself. ;)

(edited to add -- that's actually an invitation, not just a snarky comment, heh). We could definitely do with more meaty stuff here and I'm all for it.

LMAO, everyone on this board aside from like 4 people think im just a troll, so most of my posts are ignored anyways. I try again every once in a while though.

@Phee- I dunno, seems fairly consistant, but maybe im just being negative

@ Epic fail- You havent been here very long. After a while, damn near every thread becomes a joke of its self.

@Tyger- people only bitch about thread jacking if its someone they dont like doing it. if phee or spook do it, its just cute.

@ Spammer- lol..yea...what scene indeed :(

Oh well.

The "Dirty old man harassment thread" is the result of a threadjacking that was stopped by the mod staff. Go look at who was involved in that thread and that proves this statement of yours false.

Find 10 and ill start thinking that. (im sure you will go find 10 just to prove me wrong, even still, alot gets left untouched)

Its been brought up several times, the amount of favoritism on the board. Im not complaining really, its to be expected.

Brap on!

we always have and always will let a minor threadjack happen. It's part of normal conversation. It's when it starts taking on a life of its own, that we stop it. I've personally had Torn Asunder publicly correct me for being part of a thread jacking.

As for favoritism, the staff strives to handle everyone fairly on a case by case basis.

Yea, Im sure they do...

Well apparently no one thinks DGN is like I do, so the thread has served its purpose I suppose.

Thanks for the feed back.

By all means, if you believe otherwise - I am fair and honest. Show me where we have erred, discuss it with me and if I am mistaken I will apologize for such.

Its in the past, and irrelevant as of now, no worries. come play horror movie 20 questions now.

frankly, i'm a bit annoyed that the "mod favoritism" issue has come up again. i'd like to make a couple points...

1) *everything* is a judgment call. many posts are borderline rules violations, and as such, may take time to discuss & come to an agreement on what, if any, action to take. in the meantime, if we leave a post visible while discussing it, people think no action = condoning, and that's not true. on the other hand, if we make a post invisible while discussing it, people flip out over "mod censorship", and that's not true either. it's lose-lose, as a mod.

2) there is *one* type of "favoritism" that goes on around here, but it's precipitated by the behavior of the individual posters. if someone rarely/never causes trouble or comes close to breaking the rules, they most definitely will get a little bit of leeway if they have a questionable post, as they've proven that, in general, they know how to behave. a "problem" poster has shown through his/her behavior, that they don't know how to, or refuse to, abide by the rules, and they will be dealt with much more harshly because of it. that has nothing to do with the mods, it's on the individual.

3) nobody on this board (other than mods) really knows what goes on behind the scenes. it's not the mods' job to "inform" everyone of any action taken against an individual, and it's not something we're ever going to do, because honestly, it's nobody else's business. of course, if people don't know/see action taken, they make assumptions that "the mods didn't do shit to so-n-so!!", when they really have no idea if we did or not.

still, there will always be cries of favoritism on the board. i wish people had enough faith in the mod staff to accept that it doesn't happen, but such is life. being a mod is a thoroughly thankless job outside of our own "internal mod pep-talk".

If you left ALL of the posts either invisible OR visiable, there wouldnt be a problem. Having only some go invisible while other stay up while there is a debate on if something is wrong or not is just silly. Treat everything EQUAL and I bet after a while (the inital change will always have a few waves), you wouldnt get as much grief. I wont go into your other comments.

I absolutely agree. My one suggestion is that if mods are going to make a post invisible so they can discuss said post, they should make all posts in response to the questionable post invisible as well. That is all. I think the mods do a good job otherwise. I think we have all done our fair share of threadjacking. But whatever, that's life. It's like making sarcastic or silly remarks that one would make when having a face-to-face conversation. And if one finds that they feel harped on a lot because of the things they say, maybe they should be more careful about what they post. There is a difference between making one's point and being totally rude and insensitive. And as the saying goes, "You can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar". There's nothing wrong with a healthy discussion/debate of a topic but usually it all goes to hell when one starts becoming confrontational and hostile. Regarding mod favoritism, I haven't seen any and I've been here a few months.

i see where you're coming from, and i agree with the sentiment, but the problem is that no two posts are alike - some warrant "unapproving" while discussed, some don't. again, everything is a judgment call. hell, there have been times where we've debated posts that nobody was offended/offput by, but we wondered how the rules applied to it. if we had made those invisible, people would have flipped out because there was nothing wrong with the posts.

there are no absolutes in modding, just as there is no way to treat each unique post "equally", when posts are questionable. now, as far as rules-violating posts go, i'm fairly confident that the mod staff does treat them equally, insofar as each mod has his/her own unique perspective as an individual.

You're not a Troll. You're a Nocker named Sluagh which is really confusing. Sounds like something a Pooka would do.

(Technically not a thread jack because it's a direct response to a previous post by the thread starter himself, but I guess I've proven that my primary purpose on DGN is to make random goofy comments. Occasionally though I will try to hide some wisdom in my humor.)

That is why I asked if it were possible for a moderator, or Troy to change my user name... I dont want to make a brand new account...no one responded to my post though.

Where was this asked? I'm not challenging it, just don't feel like looking for it on my blackberry. Would take forever. I've not seen the request though.

Like I told spammer in his thread about a name change-contact a staff member. A mod can't change a name but we haz direct lines to those who can in our super secret scary staff chat area. I know myself, chernobyl, phee, torn asunder and stormknight check in pretty much daily. The rest a few times a week at least. Pm one of us. Pm all of us. Text/call one of us. IMs work too. :)

Pms and reports go straight to my blackberry so I get them asap, if I am at my laptop or not.

I agree, I have never had a warning from any moderator but I also tend to be polite. I feel sorry for what you moderators have to put up with for doing your job. I know some take it personal when they have to be warned for what they have posted and they think their friend has stabbed them in the bacck. Some of us really do appreciate all you mods for what you do. I do think there are lulls in threads and postings but as Phee said it comes and goes.
