Worst thing ever said to you

When I was getting fitted for the very expensive, vintage dress that I bought for my son's wedding, the seamstress told me that I needed to lose weight, "just like your daughter did."

I'm pretty fit, yet still not fit enough, apparently.

Both my daughter and I have large rib cages. I can't lose any more weight from that area, without starving myself. And I like food. I fought tears for the remainder of the fitting, after I said that what was just said was inappropriate.

I cried the whole way home. I felt like everything that I've achieved was invisible. I emailed the vintage shop, as soon as I got home. I told them how this made me feel. I told them that if they said it to my daughter, they'd be paying her therapy bills. She's now 7 years into recovery for Anorexia. She had already disowned her birth father, because he told her that she was fat and ugly.

Picking up those pieces was hard.

Their reply to my email was pretty cold and aloof. I'll never go back to them again.

Vivian Vintage 8 is the shop. The seamstress that they use is on Jefferson, in St. Clair Shores. I can't remember the name. Most of the time, people don't get to me like that. But I was featured in a newspaper article about derby, just the week before. The online version came out the following day, prompting a few nasty remarks about my look. From men who probably live in their mom's basement (without her knowledge) with a few naked, dead bodies and a bottle of Jergens...

They may have gotten to me, despite my thought that they didn't...

not the worst, but one that sticks out to me is this time i got in a pretty serious car accident when i was still a teenager, i think.

i spent several hours in the hospital, but i didn't know what had happened to the other guys. i was sitting at home the next day (still very stiff from the accident, possibly with a concussion & 110 stitches in my face) & got a phone call from someone asking to speak to me, specifically. i think it was my sis who handed me the phone, and when i said hello, a voice on the other end of the line told me that they wanted to let me know that the other two people involved in the accident had died at the hospital. i was completely devastated, couldn't stop crying.

i found out a little later (not sure if it was that day or the next) that it had been a prank call. i guess someone got my name from the paper & found my ma's number or something. the guys were pretty seriously injured, but were most definitely still alive.

i never understood why someone would want to do that...

Oh wow...that's absolutely cruel...

After proving my abilities time and time again, Okaasan, who has watched my skills develop since I used to use a butter knife as a screwdriver, looks me straight in the face earlier this year and, in a voice drenched in overwhelming sincerity, states, "But you're just one little girl"....(back in 1994, maybe, but not today)
