Opinions on this ongoing problem

Recommended Posts

IMO I think any business that outsources work to a third world country

that they either get taxed to hell or all the CEO,s be forced to move/live in that country

where they moved their business.just a thought.

your opinions and answers.

I tend to be of the opinion that part of a CEOs job is to ensure that the company remains competitive in a global market. Instead of hunting down a CEO with an angry mob, we should instead look more into tax incentives for companies and increasing educational quality in the United States so that our workforce is not so easily replaced.

Yeah if you really look at this at the local government and state government levels you will see that not only are we not providing incentives for them to stay here...we are making very difficult and expensive for companies to stay here. Hell, I am surprised there are still so many companies left with the way the local governments treat them.

Should they employ locally? Yes. However with what is being imposed on them here I do not blame them one little bit for leaving...its a wonder there are any factories left at all looking at the power that we had around Gary at one time.

Tax Nazi's/piss poor government is the main problem, imagine if all the businesses left this country, you would have to either order food from a third world toilet nation(e-coli soil),or grow it yourself.

If I could find the video again,it showed a Taco Bell completely run by computers no humans present at all.

any way to prevent people from finding work.

With the market control today there is no incentive for many small business at all either...contrary to popular belief that super store are only a small part of the impact on these businesses. Nobody can start anything small, medium, or large without getting a crunch in the nuts. People often blames the CEO's but considering the shit storm some of them are in I can't really put that much blame on them without wondering if it really is true.

This subject hits me really close to home. I could write a book on it (will try to control myself in this thread tho).

My brother's and my own (quite good paying) jobs were both outsourced.

Maybe if the workers in India did a better job than me (they didn't) or maybe if I was lazy (I wasn't - consistently met and exceeded quality and production standards) there would be an excuse but it was nothing but pure greed.

The company I worked for provided transcription services for hospitals - complex, important information, could be life-and-death if a medication mixup or other information was garbled or missing. Not only that, social security numbers, addresses, everything needed for identity theft began to be sent overseas to India to be transcribed. They would send the work back to our transcriptionists when finished and we were supposed to "edit" them to make them acceptable. It was the worst mess I had ever seen, but even so they claimed it was more cost effective to have them type it and me fix the mess than to pay U.S. transcriptionists to transcribe it.

When they first began outsourcing it they claimed they were only sending overflow work. Gradually our benefits started to disappear - no 401K match, higher deductibles, no holiday pay, then gradually our health insurance was rendered useless ($5000 deductible and if anyone managed to accrue that much in a year, everything was magically denied for being "over the reasonable and customary charge".

Little by little our salaries shrunk over a 3 year period until at the time I was forced out of my job my pay was one third what it once was. I just couldn't afford to waste my time with them any longer.

Six months after I left I received a notice that they were declaring bankruptcy. I was one of the lucky ones who escaped with a final paycheck and my PTO pay.

Most hospitals are now sending their transcription to India but have no idea that's where it's going because the transcription companies put on a front here as if it's being done within the country. I have a feeling that a huge amount of identity theft is stemming from these records being sent there.

I have a whole wall lined with hundreds of dollars worth of medical terminology books in every specialty plus language and medication references along with 20+ years of experience I can no longer use. When the pay was good, I loved it and I was good at it. It really sucks, but I'll probably never work in that field again because there seem to be no companies who are willing to pay a fair wage and don't expect me to go behind someone from India and try to fix their mistakes.

I would absolutely vote for a politician whose made putting a stop to outsourcing jobs one of their main objectives, regardless of whether democrat, republican or third party.

You're better off boycotting manufactures that do this. The government can make laws with respect to trade and tariffs to discourage it but it would be a bad idea to directly limit it except for some industries with strategic value.

I beleive we should stop looking for ways to punish corperations for doing it and stop looking for ways to prevent them from doing it. Companys exist to make money.. for the people that own them and for the people who work at them.

What we should be doing is take away the reason they do it. That would require that we make the cost of doing business here lower. Lower taxes and fees. On all levels.

Why am I the only one that remembers history? Did you know Michigan used to be where almost all motorhomes and manufactured homes were built? There used to be hudnreds of factorys building trailers, dbl wides, campers, 5th wheels and motor homes in the central Michigan area. Michigan needed money so it took away almost all corperate tax breaks for those companys. they packed up and moved out. They took thousands of jobs with them. They went to Indiana, who, when they found out Michigan was raising corperate tax rates... lowered thiers. the factorys and jobs are still there.

So, wanna bring the jobs home?

WOW people still don't get this for some reason. Its amazing how much people can ignore. The majority of these corporations are not outsourcing jobs because they want to...they need to to stay afloat. If you know anything about how some of these plants work then you know how much of a pain in the ass it is to have different things made in different states...so why the hell would they willingly ship these jobs and parts off to other countries? WE KICKED THEM OUT! Through a very effective network or local governments and unions most companies have found it cheaper and more convenient to move entire divisions to other countries.

Get mad about jobs moving around if you want because it should be something you should be mad about. However, getting mad at the wrong people and blaming the wrong people is not going to help anything...in fact it is probably making the few companies left here more anxious to get the hell out.

Also, making profit is not a bad thing and you really come across as a major douchebag when you rag on people for making a profit. Unless you have solid evidence that it is ill gotten profit can it and stop being jealous.

I think massive boycotting of companies that send work out of the country would have the desired effect. Problem is we couldnt get everyone to stand together on this.

TWo points...

1. Global Economy. They can always sell thier products somewhere else.

Which brings us to

2. They will just stop offerring the products here.
