Darkmatter
I am relived to hear that we can go outside at City Club to smoke! I've been told that the 1st "Smoke Break" is free , but after that you gotta pay 1$. I'm thinking that the 1 dollar is because they are going to have to search people re-entering? But hells yeah! My nightlife will remain in tact despite these silly removals of freedoms. So yeah, my depression on this is over! For awhile i was sure that CC couldn't handle letting us outside. Good to know that I underestimated their resolve. Also I went to Assemblage 23 on Saturday and Smalls was very accommodating , letting everyone out without charging us a dime! I love that place. So, don't despair smokers we will be taken care of! Although i see a very cold winter for us

Simon Bar Sinister
Poor, pooooor, Senior Citizens...live in a home, go out to smoke... That's a Commandment Breaker... I live next door to a nursing home that banned smoking a couple of years ago. I'm sure it has to be a bit of a pain, but they seem to have adjusted rather well. Never underestimate the resiliency of people. Edited May 3, 2010 by SpammerOvTheGods
prick
I do find it interesting that the ban talks about clean air for everyone at work and resturants and bars and free air and blah blah blah but no mention that smoking is still allowed in Michigan casinos. We are doing this for your health and love you(unless our palms are greased.). Edited May 3, 2010 by prick

We are doing this for your health and love you(unless our palms are greased.). you realize, of course, that casinos pump in *tons* of oxygen to keep people awake & gambling, so it stands to reason that their air circulation/turnover is quite high, and therefore likely to not need further "air scrubbing" for lack of a better term. Ahhh but if your sitting at a one armed bandit and another person is sitting right next to you and believe me its so close your knee touches theirs. If they are smoking , you are going to breath it in.

If they are smoking , you are going to breath it in. My mom told me, back in the day, when she worked at the Casino Windsor (the one before this gigantic one thats there now and when there was smoking everywhere in Windsor) that she would walk about and not be able to smell smoke because of all the oxygen pumped in.... just my two pennies. Glory13666
I do agree that it's not right that the casinos are still allowed to have smoking. I guess that was the one issue that was keeping some lawmakers from voting for the bill so the others had to allow it just to get it to pass. I don't think that the casinos pumping O2 in will eliminate the smoke but maybe it will help a little. I'm really glad to hear that City Club is allowing people to go out and smoke and only charging $1 to get back in, too bad they just didn't charge anything but like a previous person stated it is probably in order to have people at the door to manage the re-entry of all the smokers. Is City Club allowing people to bring cigarettes into the club? I had speculated that they might not even allow them to be brought inside. It seems that it would be pretty hard to keep people from lighting up if they had them on them.
candyman
Wait people think that pumping air into a room will take away all of the smoke? Did they hire Captain Gore to figure that one out too? Its simple airflow people and the math does not add up. Smoke is going to be heavier than oxygen and although it looks like it floats up it just goes up a little ways and comes back down if there is no air system to catch it. Add an influx of fresh oxygen, probably recycled air, and you push it down even more. IF there was a chance in hell that the air pumped in would banish the smoke from the room it would require a pumping system that would make your hair move and would probably be blowing the money you just made right out of your hands...not to mention that the gaming floor of a casino has no aerodynamic parts to it at all... Sorry people...not only will you lose your money by being stupid and gambling...you will still get that cigarette smoke you love so much especially if they are next to you... Sorry again but I just had to burst someones bubble today...
Darkmatter
BAH i spoke too soon i guess. Seems i'll be waiting to hit City for awhile. $1.00 for re-entry would have been fine but $4.00 i just cannot afford. Back to bummed out You get one wrist band and its good for going out one time, you can stay out as long as you want [ thats what happened saturday anyway ] and yes, you guys are right. they will lose a LOT Of business by doing this. As for the time being until they DO sort this out, this weekend coming up there will be a 4 dollar re-entry free after your 1 time going out. You guys have to understand that they are doing this for everyones benefit and it makes it less confusing on everyones behalf that works there [ this is what the door girl is telling me, she wanted the word passed along ] I did hear threw the grape vine within a couple weeks there will be a change and a different thing for people that DO smoke [ like 5 dollars to go in and out or something ] . Oh, and PLEASE do not yell at the door girls about this, theyre just as pissed off about this as the rest of us <3.
IsleofRhodesEnt
more on the E-cig, from the FDA interesting read pdf file from FDA now....In know that we all have issues here and there with the FDA, but I would at least like final testing before people go wild with these things. IsleofRhodesEnt
Do you think they will honestly prove worse then cigarettes for your health? no...I don't think they will prove WORSE...but I don't think that they'll be much better either. High rates of Nicotine, which these provide much more nicotine then normal cigarettes, can raise the risk of mouth cancer by quite a bit. also, while companies are SAYING that you have to be legal age, considering that it's not Tobacco, there actually IS no legal age to purchase these. They are an un-approved product that has no tobacco, and the legal age bit applies only to tobacco included/related products, which this is not. The companies can deny the sales of this product IF they choose to, but they can legally sell it to minors as of right now as well.
Rev.Reverence
Do you think they will honestly prove worse then cigarettes for your health? From what I have read (the wiki-pages on the chemicals mentioned in the report), & my use of one {& Duck's){go ahead & ask him at ft's Saturday afternoon, what he thinks of them)...I think, that if used regularly, they are by far & largely worse for one's health...but, only time will tell for sure...I will only use mine when I have to goto a show & perform..since you can't smoke ANYWHERE anymore... Also, they are illegal.
phee
Also, they are illegal. The E Cig is illegal? (has that stopped people from smoking other stuff on this board all that often in the past? things being illegal...)

Rev.Reverence
The E Cig is illegal? (has that stopped people from smoking other stuff on this board all that often in the past? things being illegal...) Yeah...on both accounts... ..not all of us care, but, yes, none-the-less.. Ah...no one reads the links when they are there...but, they ask for them when they are not.. http://www.michigan.gov/documents/mdch/E_cig_factsheet_for_SF_law_website_FINAL_318107_7.pdf ~The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has determined that the e-cigarette meets the definition of a combination drug device product and therefore should be regulated by the FDA. Currently the e-cigarette are not approved by the FDA and are considered illegal.
