16 Volt / Chemlab tour skips Detroit!

Detroit is not always making the list of tour stops anymore. I saw 16 Volt and Chemlab several times in the 90s here and would love to see them again, but I'm not traveling to see them. In the past year I've had to drive to Cleveland to see Nitzer Ebb; Chicago for Throbbing Gristle; Toronto for Massive Attack. Depeche Mode skipped Detroit too! I guess bands think nobody here has a job anymore and can afford concert tickets.

But they are playing Fargo!!! (LOLz)

Interesting thing... this tour has been in the planning stages for over a year now, I've personally heard about it for a very very long time. Jared from Chemlab has personal friends in Detroit (the Dethlab crew) that could easily put them in touch with promoters here. Same situation with 16 Volt - they know people here who can put them in touch with the right people. 16 volt tried to tour prior to this - that was their first tour after a long absence if you recall. After the fact one of my music industry friends who knows Eric of 16 Volt personally, filled me in on the following: On that tour the only venue/promoters 16 Volt contacted was St. Andrews, who naturally said no as the band had been inactive for so long and they were requesting plenty of money in a guarantee. They did not approach Magic Stick or Majestic, places where they had performed in Detroit prior. They got a single NO and gave up on Detroit. There are other places to play in town. That same industry friend brought up Darque Productions and passed along our contact info but we were never contacted by the band, management or a booking agent. I might have shot an email off to them inquiring about that tour (can't recall as it was a long time ago), but in return heard nothing back. Usually we don't go after them, if they are interested in a Detroit show, bands will normally approach us and we'll get the ball rolling.

Seems like their lines of communication are a little crossed or there's something else altogether stopping them from coming here (lack of a guarantee of money, appropriate venue size, available date for a show, etc...)... who knows...

Used to be a big fan of both bands, but the last few times I've seen each they've been pretty unremarkable, trying to hold onto that gutter-tech guitar industrial sound from 1995. Both bands are scheduled to perform at next weeks Kinetik Festival in Montreal (I'll be there). Will be interesting to see how there performances are then.

Sorry they are not playign Detroit and it may mean a road trip for you. Chicago's always worth a roadtrip ;)

also keep in mind that TG tour was 4 limited dates in the U.S. versus a proper tour. Looks like that Massive Attack tour is kind of the same situation - special Limited dates in the US versus a full-scale sate by state tour.

We were lucky enough to have Ebb at the Movement festival as a warm up to their reunion tour. The reason they skipped Detroit this time was supposedly they were going to be one of the headliners at Movement this year.

Detroit remains one of the top markets for bands in the united states, I don't think most of these bands are skipping the area based on your thought nobody has a job and can't afford tickets...
