With "Enjoy The Fall", Edge Of Dawn's debut album, we were listening to what was probably the most successful electronic debuts of 2007. Singer Frank Spinath (Seabound) and Mario Schuhmacher have now completed its proud successor. "Anything That Gets You Through The Night" is promising to become an extraordinary 2nd album. Rarely have the songs been so refined, the instrumentation so sumptuous and varied, the atmosphere so full and the overall quality level so completely convincing as in this album.

Almost everything is fair game if it gets you through the night. The door closes, the room has no windows. It is 3:06 AM. The edge of dawn can be so far away from this point in the night.

"Anything That Gets You Through the Night" will make it possible to overcome such gloom. This album by the EDGE OF DAWN duo proposes twelve rich, experimental tracks. Reflected in this second opus, we will be exposed to survival under different situations and varying circumstances such as pressure, danger and lust. Guest singer Reagan Jones from IRIS gets the ball rolling with the song "Beyond the Gate" and heralds an album which might become one of this year's highlights in electro!

The album will be available for purchase in the US via Metropolis Records on June 8th.

*sigh* I like Edge of Dawn a lot but its at CC, so I wont be attending. I hope it goes well for you though, Kat.

The new Edge of Dawn which is easily going to make my top 10 for 2010... can be yours FOR FREE!

You should all really let your City Club issues be bi-gones come out (if even for a bit) and enjoy a fantastic disc..

We are one of the very few cities/clubs doing a release party... SUPPORT IT!

Eh, not calling you out... (alright maybe just a little ;) ) Just seeing too much bitching on the board lately from a ton of people.

HEY!

...I was bitching about CC before it became cool to bitch about it (IE before the smoking ban) lol. I understand what you mean though.

(I was also cool before it was cool to be)

Artist: Edge Of Dawn

Title: Anything That Gets You Through The Night

Format: CD

Label: Dependent Records

Genre: Electronic, Synthpop

Release date: May 21, 2010

Edge Of Dawn struck like a lightning bolt in the electronic music scene in 2007 with their debut album “Enjoy The Fall”. Even though the project at first was a one-man project of Mario Schumacher, started in 1998, it took seven years before the first EP “The Flight [Lux]” was released in 2005, after it was known that the Seabound frontman Frank M. Spinath joined the band. The band is now back with their second studio album “Anything That Gets You Through The Night”.

This new album starts out with “Beyond The Gate” and is a duett version between Frank and Iris singer Reagan Jones and the result is a beautiful but yet very melodic song with heavy beats. With great complexity in sound, the band varies between different styles with catchy melodies and heavy rhythms. Add to that the mastery of the lyrics and the amazing vocals of Frank. The next track “Denial”, and my interpretation is that it’s about the constant denial of things and not facing the the facts that you probably need help, but instead you are just running away and hide. “All The Time” is another amazing song with a catchy refrain before we gets to “Stage Fright”, which to me is an absoulte masterpiece. The constant pounding rhythms and with beautifully crafted with soundscapes and different layers to create that addictive feeling. The chorus stands out for itself.

The first part of “Capture” would probably fit in any Hollywood action movie with an intense chase before it turns over to a more harmonic atmosphere and offers beautiful and melancholic soundscapes mixed with orchestral arrangements. This brings us to the second guest appearence in “Lucid World” with additional vocals of the Hungry Lucy vocalist Christa Belle. However, it’s not presented in the same way as in the first track and her lines are very limited. The slow tempo of “Siren’s Call” reveals the stylistic path and depth the album really has. “Save My Soul” is another beautiful track with remarkable layers in compositions and its melancholic touch, drills into your heart.

The main theme is about survival and everything that is to it. With “Anything That Gets You Through The Night”, Edge Of Dawn delivers a true masterpiece. Just stunning! Listen in on the lyrics and you’ll know how emotional and sensitive it is. Some lyrics can be interpreted in a very sad way though, but what would you do to survive? The moody sound never gets boring and every track stands out in its own way. With heavy beats and pounding rhythms blended with amazing vocals and beautiful melodies, over the course of both danceable and slower tracks, “Anything That Gets You Through The Night” is an outstanding album and can’t be missed. It shouldn’t be missed!

Having heard the album in it's entirety, and following it from the rough demo phase to the finished product, I have to say that this is one of my favorite albums I've come across in a long time. The lyrics are thought-provoking, the music has depth to it.... it's just fabulous.

Plus, the US release date isn't until June 8th! If you come by for the listening party, not only do you get a free copy of the cd, but you're also getting your hands on it before most everyone else in the country. That's kinda fun.

Only one day away! I'm so looking forward to this night. Getting the chance to hear new material before it's officially released is exciting, and I know those who like Edge of Dawn or Seabound will not be disappointed will this new release.

I hope many of you can make it. See you there!

For those coming tonight who happen to be reading this, there's an ocean under the last bridge before the Bagley exit on the Lodge. Traffic slows down rapidly in that area, so watch out for fender benders. I had a close call myself. :-O

Thanks for the heads up! I'll be taking off in a minute here myself, gotta be careful...my car doesn't like water.

Yes, I was at work until 10, so I did not get the message. Same problem on Southfield kept me stuck for over an hour because people did not invest in floating ATVs when they were car-buying =P

Showed up with 10 minutes to spare for free admission, so I so fail at attending the listening party :wallbash:

Regardless, it was the best Friday yet! Cool cats, cool beats...and that one crazy kid that shakes my hand all the time. I was definately on that dancefloor far more than usual
